Abstract

The invention concerns an arrangement in a part of a paper machine in which the surface properties of a roll and/or rolls are affected by regulating the temperature of the roll face by means of an external heating device. In the arrangement, such a combination of a heating device and a roll coating is used that the heating radiation pene­ trates through the paper or only directly to the roll face but does not heat the roll itself at a greater depth. Said roll coating is made of a dark, readily heatable and insulating material. The invention is utilized, e.g., in a calender or for detaching the paper from a roll.
