Description

The present invention relates to a device for controlling the keys given and received during fencing attacks.

This device has the advantage of eliminating any ohmic connection between the shooters and, therefore, eliminates the constraints inherent in the establishment of the various cables and the use of equipment whose reliability is not to any test, such as the reels in particular; on the other hand it gives an additional dimension to fencing by authorizing displacements in the plane and no longer along an axis and, lets predict combats during which several adversaries can confront each other.

In addition, one of the original features of its design makes it possible, or even encourages, the use of materials with low electrical conduction, that is to say with high resistance for making tracks and breastplates in particular. This is the case of substances used specially in the control of static electricity such as foams, rubber, slightly conductive textiles having electrical resistances of several tens of kilo-ohms.

The principle of the invention is based on the use of periodic electrical phenomena whose frequencies are either low or high depending on whether this electrical signal is carried by a conductive support or propagated in the form of radio waves. In addition, the signal is coded to minimize the risk of interference in the event that several devices are used on the same site.

The aforementioned signals are exchanged during the touch, between the two assemblies carried by the fencers, assemblies compatible with each other, in the sense that the receiver of one is calibrated to receive and decode the signal produced by the opposite transmitter and vice versa . This achievement requires the implementation of a radio duplex from two separate networks working on frequencies H.F. or V.H.F. and different codes. By way of example, the application of these principles will be described for the realization of a controller of keys given and received during assaults with the sword. It is obvious that, with a few variations, due to the particularities of each weapon, these principles can be adapted to foil or even saber.

The general organization of the device is the subject of FIG. 1 on which it is possible to distinguish the weapons I and I bis, the body wires II and II bis, the electronic boxes III and III bis, the systems for materializing the keys IV and IV bis comprising a light and sound signal, the aerials V (e and r) and V bis (e and r), a carpet exciter VI generating the signals F1 and F2 and a carpet VII intended to represent the track where fighting takes place, carpet excited by electrical signals F1 and F2.

The electronic unit III (or III bis) as indicated in FIG. 2 comprises a generator and transmitter 31 as well as a receiver decoder 32 of radio waves both working on different HF or VHF frequencies: the frequency of the receiver 32 of the box III being adjusted to receive the signal 31 from box III bis when the button is pressed and vice versa. These two main organs have their respective function of emission and reception controlled and enslaved by a logical unit taking into account certain material or physical contingencies and the rules concerning sword fighting in this case. These are mainly:
of oscillator 33 delivering a low frequency signal F1 on the gunner's weapon
- The detector 36 of low frequency signal F2 emitted by the oscillator 33 of the opposing device or by the carpet exciter VI, responsible for inhibiting the emission function of 31 when it detects the presence of this signal.
- The filter 37 eliminating the contact closure pulses from the tip of the weapon, the duration of which would be less than the period provided for in the relevant regulations.
- the time delay system 34 for the pulse of the received and decoded signal, which maintains the display of the key for a time long enough for the result to be perceived and used in good conditions by the shooters, the public and the referees of the meeting.
- the self-timer 35 of the previous time delay, the output signal of which is intended to inhibit the transmitter 31: this time delay is also fixed by the regulations. The time delay of 34 is made on reception insofar as, of course, it does not was not chosen to delay the opponent's broadcast.

The operation of the device is simple. When touched, the point head of the weapon which behaves like a push button, normally open at rest, closes the circuit which activates the transmitter 31; the latter delivers its coded signal H.F. or V.H.F. insofar as its function is not inhibited by the presence of the electrical quantity a (FIG. 2). The radiated signal is received decoded, timed and displayed by the opposing device, that is to say by the assembly carried by the fencer who has just been hit.

However, this transmission during the touch does not take place if:
- it is too short and therefore filtered by 37
- the point head of the weapon which causes the key is actuated on a surface traversed by the frequency F2
- the transmission is inhibited by the presence of a key display, after the delay brought by 35

The detailed description of the various aforementioned elements such as oscillators the transmitters or receivers, whether of the frequency or amplitude or phase modulation type, the decoders, the filters and the timers are of no particular interest for the present invention, these functions can be carried out in different ways and the integrated circuits used in these fields is not lacking.

As shown in Figure 3, it is possible to make a variant of the device by returning the display IV and IV bis to a central device VIII provided with two receivers 81 and 82 receiving the respective signals from the transmitters 31 of III and III bis of the two fencers who clash.

It should also be mentioned that the discrimination of the zones with particular treatment can be made in a reverse manner to that described, that is to say by exciting when touching, the point head of the weapon by the low frequency signal which would propagate on the conductive surface when the point of the weapon is pressed on it.

In summary, the equipment that is the subject of this description disrupts the physical environment of fencing by removing the constraints inherent in the use of a wired link between the fencers and by eliminating the use of equipment whose reliability is put to the test by the frequent and sudden movements of the shooters. In addition, the injection of low frequencies into the floor mat makes it possible to avoid the use of a painful metal installation track, the rough texture of which has harmful effects on the longevity of the shoes and promotes the use of materials. modern, more flexible, more aesthetic that can be integrated more harmoniously into the material environment of fencing.

Finally, the implementation of these devices requires very few modifications, the only one which is strongly recommended is the shielding of the wire which connects the contacts of the point head of the weapon to the body wire of the shooter: this modification does not prohibit, thereafter, the use of the weapon with conventional equipment.
