Definitions
- the invention relates to a plate belt for a continuously operating grape press, in which the grape mash is pressed between two endless horizontal plate belts, each with articulated, juice-permeable plates.
- the endlessly rotating plate belts consist of juice-impermeable plates. Between the two upright arranged plate belts, a downward sagging press blanket is guided, which receives the grape mash to be pressed out as it passes through the wedge-shaped narrowing press chamber. The grape mash can therefore not get into the gap between the abutting edges of adjacent plates, even in the deflection area of the plate belts.
- the gap between adjacent plates in the straight band sections is sealed against the passage of juice by a rubber sealing strip arranged between the abutting edges.
- plate belts of the type mentioned are provided in a continuously working grape press that is not part of the prior art (DE patent application P 37 31 042), which works without a press blanket. Two plate belts are arranged one above the other and form the wedge-shaped narrowing press space between them. The plates are made permeable to juice.
- the object of the invention is therefore to design a plate belt of the type mentioned in such a way that, even without the use of a press blanket, no grape mash can get to the back of the plate through the gap which opens during deflection between adjacent abutting edges of the plates.
- This object is achieved in that a gap seal made of flexible material is inserted between the abutting edges of adjacent plates and that the gap seals are attached with their edges to the abutting edges of the adjacent plates and have an approximately U-shaped cross section in the installed state.
- the flexible gap seal prevents the grape mash entering the gap between the abutting edges of adjacent plates from being able to reach the rear of the plates, possibly in the area of the juice pan. Due to its flexible property, the gap seal adapts to the gap widths that change over a wide range as the plate belt rotates around the deflection roller.
- the gap seal consists of a non-deformed, essentially flat strip of flexible material, such as rubber, plastic or fabric coated with it, which has an edge bead on each of its two edges, and that the edge bead is overlapped by a holding profile attached to the plate.
- the continuously operating grape press shown schematically in FIG. 1 has a lower plate belt 1 and an upper plate belt 2, which are driven and form a narrowing press chamber 3 between them.
- the grape mash to be pressed arrives from a hopper 4 on the upper run of the upper plate belt 2, which forms a pre-juicing section.
- the grape mash falls at the end of the upper plate belt 2 down to the lower plate belt 1 and enters the press room 3, where it is pressed out.
- the pressed pomace is thrown off.
- the plate belts 1, 2 consist of juice-permeable plates 5, each of which has cover plates 6, for example sieve plates.
- a plurality of support webs 8 extending in the longitudinal direction of the strip are arranged on the back of the plate (FIG. 2). Between the support webs 8, two rows of guide rollers 9 are supported on the back of each plate 5, which are supported on guide surfaces 10 when the plates 5 pass through the area of the pressing space 3.
- gap seal 12 made of flexible material is used, for example made of rubber, plastic or rubber-coated or plastic-coated fabric. These gap seals 12 fill the gaps 13, which open and then close again when the plate belts 1, 2 rotate around their deflection rollers 14 or drive rollers 15.
- the gap seals 12 consist of an essentially flat strip of rubber or a flexible plastic in the undeformed state (FIGS. 4 and 5), for example also with a fabric insert.
- an edge bead 12a is formed in each case, which in the embodiment according to FIGS. 2 to 5 approximately forms a right-angled triangle in cross section.
- These two edge beads 12a of each gap seal 12 are each overlapped by a holding profile attached to the adjacent assigned plates 5. In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, this holding profile is formed by an edge 7 of the cover plate 6 of the plate 5 which is bent by more than 90 °.
- Fig. 2 shows the position of adjacent plates 5 in a straight section of the plate belt 1 or 2.
- the gap 13 between adjacent plates 5 has its narrowest dimensions.
- the gap seal 12 is deformed approximately U-shaped in cross section.
- Fig. 3 shows the state when the plate belt 1 or 2 rotates around the deflection roller 14. Here, the gap 13 is most open.
- grape mash occurs in the opening gaps 13, in particular when the upper plate belt 2 rotates around the deflection roller 14. Before these columns 13 are closed again, the grape mash falls out again.
- the gap seal 12 prevents the grape mash from getting behind the plates 5.
- FIGS. 6 and 7 show an embodiment of the gap seal 12 which is modified compared to FIGS. 4 and 5.
- Their edge beads 12b are formed here in that the edges of the flat, flexible gap seal 12 are each folded over by an insert 12c in the form of a round cord or a rod and are glued, vulcanized or sewn onto the gap seal 12 itself.
- the edge beads 12b thickened by the insert 12c can be overlapped by holding profiles in a similar manner to that shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 and in this way attached to the plates 5.
- the insert can for example, a flexible plastic round rod, a cord made of solid material or a wire.
- FIG. 8 A further modified embodiment of the gap seal 12 is shown in FIG. 8 in a representation similar to FIG. 3.
- the gap seals 12 consist of rubber-elastic flat strips and each have a row of openings 16 spaced apart from one another along their two edges. These openings 16 form holding openings, into which holding tabs 17 engage, which project from one another from the adjacent abutting edges 11 of the plates 5.
- these retaining tabs 17 are formed by projecting ends of the support webs 8.
- Fig. 8 shows the state when the plate belt 1 or 2 rotates around the deflecting roller 14.
- the strip-shaped elastic gap seal 12 is here so far deformed compared to its flat, undeformed state that it is resiliently supported on the two adjacent plates 5.
- the gap seal 12 is held exclusively by the engagement of the holding tabs 17.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a plate belt for a continuously operating grape press, in which the grape mash is pressed between two endless horizontal plate belts, each with articulated, juice-permeable plates.
In a known, continuously operating grape press (DE-A-16 27 981), the endlessly rotating plate belts consist of juice-impermeable plates. The gap between adjacent plates in the straight band sections is sealed against the passage of juice by a rubber sealing strip arranged between the abutting edges.
In a continuously working grape press that is not part of the prior art (DE patent application P 37 31 042), which works without a press blanket, plate belts of the type mentioned are provided. Two plate belts are arranged one above the other and form the wedge-shaped narrowing press space between them. The plates are made permeable to juice.
When the plate belts circulate around their deflection rollers or deflection wheels, the gaps between the abutting edges of adjacent plates open and close again when they enter the subsequent rectilinear plate section. The grape mash can enter this open column. However, since the back of the plates is the juice side, any solids from the grape mash are undesirable. Mash can get into the gap between adjacent plates, especially at the inlet into the tapered press chamber, especially if the upper run of the upper plate belt already forms a pre-juicing section, on which the mash is transported to the deflection roller of the plate belt and then there reached at the bottom of the press room. At this point, a large amount of grape mash can get into the area between adjacent plates and thus into the juice pan that receives the juice. In addition, the grape mash reaching the back of the plate can cause disruptions in the plate guidance.
The object of the invention is therefore to design a plate belt of the type mentioned in such a way that, even without the use of a press blanket, no grape mash can get to the back of the plate through the gap which opens during deflection between adjacent abutting edges of the plates.
This object is achieved in that a gap seal made of flexible material is inserted between the abutting edges of adjacent plates and that the gap seals are attached with their edges to the abutting edges of the adjacent plates and have an approximately U-shaped cross section in the installed state.
The flexible gap seal prevents the grape mash entering the gap between the abutting edges of adjacent plates from being able to reach the rear of the plates, possibly in the area of the juice pan. Due to its flexible property, the gap seal adapts to the gap widths that change over a wide range as the plate belt rotates around the deflection roller.
According to a particularly preferred embodiment of the inventive concept, it is provided that the gap seal consists of a non-deformed, essentially flat strip of flexible material, such as rubber, plastic or fabric coated with it, which has an edge bead on each of its two edges, and that the edge bead is overlapped by a holding profile attached to the plate. This ensures a secure connection between the gap seals and the plates with a structurally simple design. Further advantageous embodiments of the inventive concept are the subject of further dependent claims.
