Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an air cushion drum for sheet-fed printing presses, in which air flows are supplied from openings in the drum shell through a cavity in the interior of the drum and through which the sheets are pressed away from the drum shell.
An air cushion drum of the type specified is known from DE-PS 1 561 043. In this known air cushion drum, the drum jacket consists of a porous material, so that the air is radially distributed evenly over the drum length from a large number of pores and forms a thin air cushion on the drum circumference, causing the printed sheets to come into contact with the drum and thus smearing of the ink application is prevented. The known drum is double-walled and the cavity created by the double wall is divided by ribs into individual chambers extending parallel to the drum axis, which are supplied with air in succession by means of control elements during one revolution of the drum.
Air cushion drums of the specified type have proven themselves in practice. However, the noises caused by the air currents are perceived as disadvantageous.
The object of the invention is to provide an air cushion drum of the type mentioned, in which the flow noise is low.
This object is achieved in that the openings for the air outlet in the drum shell in the cavity is opposite a sound absorbing layer.
Surprisingly, it has been shown that the application of a sound-absorbing layer according to the invention in the cavity of the drum through which the air is supplied results in a considerable reduction in the flow noise.
An even more effective noise reduction can be achieved according to a further proposal of the invention in that the sound-absorbing layer in the cavity forms an air-permeable partition wall which is essentially equidistant from the drum shell and through which the air is passed to the inside of the drum shell. This arrangement has the additional advantage that a uniform pressure distribution over the entire drum width is achieved and a uniform air cushion is created under the arch. According to the invention, the sound-absorbing layer of the dividing wall can be carried by a grating and, in order to reduce the flow resistance, it can be provided that the struts of the grating have a cross-section which is drop-shaped in the direction of flow. In order to keep the flow resistance of the sound-absorbing layer as low as possible, it can be provided with a plurality of radial channels according to a further proposal of the invention. It has been shown that the sound-absorbing effect is further favored by these channels.
According to the invention, the sound-absorbing layer can be coated with a dimensionally stable layer, preferably made of plastic, which absorbs the forces caused by the air flow and the rotary movement of the drum and holds the layer to the grille. According to the invention, the sound absorbing layer is made of felt.
The measures according to the invention in connection with a drum jacket, which is composed of several air-permeable layers, have proven to be particularly effective. The drum jacket preferably consists of a support screen, a filter carton and a cover screen in the order from the inside to the outside.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to an embodiment shown in the drawing. The drawing shows a cross section through an air cushion drum according to the invention.
In the
By means of radial and axially parallel walls 16, which extend from the
The sound absorbing layer can consist of fibrous materials or a foam. A felt is preferably used because it has a high insulating effect, is easy to process and the entrainment of fibers in the air is minimal.
The arrangement of the sound-absorbing
