Definitions
- the invention relates to a fuel injection system for internal combustion engines according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
- Fuel injection systems of this type are intended for internal combustion engines which are used in vehicles and are therefore subject to high requirements with regard to precise and trouble-free fuel metering.
- Fuel injection systems with intermittent or sequential injection are already known, in which each cylinder of the internal combustion engine is assigned an electromagnetic injection valve which opens into the air intake duct leading to the cylinder and responds to signals formed in an electronic control unit.
- a mechanical injection system is known in which a central metering element adjustable from a baffle flap doses the fuel for the individual cylinders, which is then fed to the injection valves via differential pressure valves and lines, which automatically open at a certain opening pressure and atomize the fuel.
- the valves have no metering function and inject the fuel continuously.
- Such an injection system is not suitable for a sequential injection in which the amount of fuel for each individual cylinder is to be precisely determined and injected into the relevant air intake duct.
- the invention is based on the consideration that the injection which takes place through one cylinder of the internal combustion engine and which is associated with the internal combustion engine is imprecise due to the qualitative differences between the individual injection valves (sample variations) which still exist at the moment.
- a central metering element is designed as an electromagnetic metering valve and is exposed to the differential pressure between a fuel supply system and a distribution chamber common to all cylinders, whereby, similarly to the mechanical injection discussed at the beginning, injection valves must be provided which open automatically under the fuel pressure. Since these valves have no metering function, they have a simple structure and can be produced with relatively low quality requirements.
- the locking advantageously takes place in accordance with an electronic distribution (electronic commutation) as a function of the encoder signals indicating the angular position of the crankshaft or camshaft.
- the electromagnetic metering valve measures the fuel calculated for the cylinder within the time period in which the lock is released.
- the fuel injection system according to the invention is shown schematically in FIG. 1.
- the fuel passes from a fuel tank 1 via a feed line 2 to the fuel pump 3 and from there under pressure via a fine filter 4 to a metering and distribution unit 5.
- the excess fuel is fed from there via a return line 6, in which a fuel pressure regulator 7 is arranged is conveyed back into the fuel tank 1.
- the metered fuel is fed in time sequence in accordance with the ignition sequence of the internal combustion engine from the metering and distributor unit 5 via distributor lines 8 to injection valves 9 and injected into cylinder inlet channels 10 through these.
- the device required for metering the fuel consists of a metering valve 11 (FIG. 2) with control lines 12 and an electronic control unit 13.
- the electronic control unit 13 is also via control lines 14 with the fuel pump 3, control lines 15 with a synchronous motor 16 and via inputs 17 connected to the detection of the engine parameters and other measured variables.
- valve closing body 18 When the valve closing body 18 is closed, all the fuel flowing in via the supply line 2 is conveyed back into the fuel tank 1 via the return line 6. If injection is to take place in one of the cylinder inlet ducts 10, the valve closing body 18 must first open against the force of a compression spring 19. This is done by activating the metering valve 11 via the actuation lines 12. When actuated, a magnetic coil 20 is acted upon by electrical current, as a result of which a magnetic field is formed and the valve closing body 18 opens up to a central pole 21 until it stops.
- the fuel pressure rising by opening the metering valve 11 in the distributor chamber 22 also propagates via the opened window (covering the openings from the distributor bore 23 and one of the distributor bores 25) via the distributor line 8 to the injection valve 9.
- the valve closing body 26 of the respective injection valve 9 which is acted upon by spring force in the closing direction, opens.
- a volume flow is established which results from the pressure difference between the distributor chamber 22 and the cylinder inlet channel 10 and the free flow cross sections between the points mentioned.
- the rotary valve 24 is driven in phase with the camshaft speed by means of a synchronous motor 16 (or a direct mechanical drive), the arrangement shown as an example ensures that the individual cylinders are supplied with fuel in accordance with the firing order.
- the allocation can take place phase-dependent and in dependence on further parameters, since the start and end of spraying can be varied in other areas by controlling the metering valve 11 in order to achieve optimal exhaust gas, consumption and performance values.
- the system also offers the option of cylinder-selective fuel metering for applications with cylinder-specific sensors and control strategies (knocking, lambda, ion current, light emission from combustion, uneven running, etc.)
- the metering characteristic of the metering valve 11 has been recorded in engine or test mode and has been stored as a characteristic curve in control unit 13, so that the sample scatter is taken into account when determining the amount of fuel corresponding to the engine operating state and the manufacture of metering valves 11 with economical, greater tolerances with regard to compliance of characteristic data of the valve.
- FIG 3 shows a diagram with the opening and closing phase characteristic curve 29 of the metering valve 11 (open-closed) plotted over the axis 28 with the angular positions of the crankshaft plotted, and the locking and unlocking and opening phase characteristic curve 30 plotted under the axis 28 the injection valves 9 assigned to the cylinder inlet channels 10 or their distributor bores 8.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a fuel injection system for internal combustion engines according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
Fuel injection systems of this type are intended for internal combustion engines which are used in vehicles and are therefore subject to high requirements with regard to precise and trouble-free fuel metering.
Fuel injection systems with intermittent or sequential injection are already known, in which each cylinder of the internal combustion engine is assigned an electromagnetic injection valve which opens into the air intake duct leading to the cylinder and responds to signals formed in an electronic control unit.
Although the signals can be reproduced with a high degree of accuracy, their effect on the individual injection valves results in fuel injection quantities of different sizes and thus a different mixture distribution among the individual cylinders. This fault can only be reduced by the extremely high quality of the injection valves.
From DE-PS 23 40 834 a mechanical injection system is known in which a central metering element adjustable from a baffle flap doses the fuel for the individual cylinders, which is then fed to the injection valves via differential pressure valves and lines, which automatically open at a certain opening pressure and atomize the fuel. The valves have no metering function and inject the fuel continuously.
Such an injection system is not suitable for a sequential injection in which the amount of fuel for each individual cylinder is to be precisely determined and injected into the relevant air intake duct.
Proceeding from this, it is therefore the object of the invention to create a new electronically controlled injection system with which, with a simple construction, a sequential injection can be achieved without a mixture distribution error.
This object has been achieved with the features specified in the characterizing part of patent claim 1. Further features of the invention are mentioned in the subclaims.
Advantages achievable with the invention are given below with reference to an embodiment shown in the drawing.
The invention is based on the consideration that the injection which takes place through one cylinder of the internal combustion engine and which is associated with the internal combustion engine is imprecise due to the qualitative differences between the individual injection valves (sample variations) which still exist at the moment.
This can be remedied if a central metering element is designed as an electromagnetic metering valve and is exposed to the differential pressure between a fuel supply system and a distribution chamber common to all cylinders, whereby, similarly to the mechanical injection discussed at the beginning, injection valves must be provided which open automatically under the fuel pressure. Since these valves have no metering function, they have a simple structure and can be produced with relatively low quality requirements.
Due to the fact that the connections of the injection valves can be locked or unlocked in order to be able to release the relevant valve depending on the engine working cycles or the firing sequence, sequential injection can take place.
The locking advantageously takes place in accordance with an electronic distribution (electronic commutation) as a function of the encoder signals indicating the angular position of the crankshaft or camshaft.
Das elektromagnetische Zumeßventil mißt innerhalb der Zeitspanne, in der die Verriegelung aufgehoben ist, den für den Zylinder berechneten Brennstoff zu.The electromagnetic metering valve measures the fuel calculated for the cylinder within the time period in which the lock is released.
An embodiment of the injection system according to the invention is shown in the drawing.
- Fig. 2 eine Ausbildung der Zumeß- und Verteilereinheit,

- Fig. 3 is a diagram with the time course of the locking and unlocking phases and the opening phases of the metering valve.
The fuel injection system according to the invention is shown schematically in FIG. 1. The fuel passes from a fuel tank 1 via a
The fuel pressure rising by opening the
It is necessary to oversize the valve opening cross sections on the
By closing the
Provided that the
The allocation can take place phase-dependent and in dependence on further parameters, since the start and end of spraying can be varied in other areas by controlling the
The system also offers the option of cylinder-selective fuel metering for applications with cylinder-specific sensors and control strategies (knocking, lambda, ion current, light emission from combustion, uneven running, etc.)
Advantageously, the metering characteristic of the
In Fig. 3 zeigt ein Diagramm mit über der Achse 28 mit aufgetragenen Winkelstellungen der Kurbelwelle aufgetragener Öffnungs- und Schließphasen-Kennlinie 29 des Zumeßventils 11 (auf - zu) und unter der Achse 28 aufgetragener Ver- und Entriegelungs- und Öffnungsphasen-Kennlinie 30 der den Zylindereinlaßkanälen 10 zugeordneten Einspritzventilen 9 bzw. deren Verteilerbohrungen 8.3 shows a diagram with the opening and closing
