Abstract

The needle cap described is used to prevent possible injury from needle tips. This protection is provided by a disc placed on the base of the needle cap. The present invention applies to all types of protective caps, both for injection needles and for sharp writing instruments.

Description

Needle cap for protecting a user from needle insertion.
Lodged il
TEXT OF THE DESCRIPTION The essence of the invention consists in protecting the fingers of sanitary operator or somebody makes an injection, when, covering the needle, runs the risk to prick oneself accidentally.
This protection has been gotten with a put disk on the opening of the needle's cap.
The drawing number 1/3 shows a specimen where the general characteristics σf the invention' s object are clear.Number 2/3 shows a section of it. The drawing number 3/3 shows the usefulness of the invention when the sanitary operator or somebody put back the needle in its cap he has just used for an injection or for the drawings of blood, biopsies, phleboclysis, anaesthesias during dental treatments, etc. The main (but others are not excluded) appliances of the invention are:
1) cap for needles of intermuscular,intravenous,sub_ cutaneous and intradermal syringes
2) cap for needles of syringes of' aspirant kind used in odontology
3) cap for needles of catheters and for biopsias
4) cap for needles of syringes for formalin injection in the corpses
5) cap for butterfly needles
6) cap for artery venous fistula needles for emodialy_ sis
7) cap for needles of' devices for intravenous infusion (blood-transfusion and phleboclysis) and of phial ' s connection and of bags for blood donation
8) cap for needles of' vacutainer devices.
As for the caps for odontological needles that consist of two parts, one penetrating in the patients' soft tissues, the other penetrating into the phial of anae_sthetic to be injected, two protective disks are provi_ded.
The dimensions of the protective disk are proportional to the size of relative can to protect effectually the thumb and index fingers which sanitary operator holds with the cap in his hands to put the just used in.
The thickness must be proportional to the cutting power of the needle which could pierce the disk making it useless. Therefore the dimensions of the diameter change from mm 20 to mm 40 and the thickness from mm
0,5 to mm 2,5.
The disk; which makes a single piece with the cap, is ma_ de of plastic material resistant to pricks, it is appli_ cable to every kind of cap and hεs the opening pointed by a coloured circle to insert easily the needle.
Also the cap of butterfly needles must be made of plastic, suitably, hard material, in opposition to those now produced which easily be pierced by the needle if this isn't inserted parallelly to the walls of the same cap.
The aim of the invention, through the elimination of the risk to get accidentally wounds by needle, is cutting down hematic trasmission illnesses from patient to sanitary operator.
Among these illnesses there are the Hepatitis B and the
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) which pre still a real, serious and sometimes lethal risk for the sanitary operators.
In this way we can give more security to the sanitary operator who must cover the eventual infected needle and avoid he threws descovered needles in the rubbish so not risking the health and safety of them who pick up and eliminate it.

Claims

1) Protective disk of cap for sanitary use needles, to avoid accidentally wound with point of needles.
2) Cap for butterfly needles in hard plastic, to avoid accidentally wound with point of needles througt Oerforations of cap in transversal way.
