Additionally, barrel-shaped portion 86 of second contact element 85 which is conductive and electrically connected to tab portion 114 extends axially toward the closed end 78 of socket 24 a distance sufficient to provide engagement with bent wire spring contact 124 when plug 26 is inserted. Further, to ensure compatibility with car appliances having plug connectors like plug 26, pin 76 preferably has a positive polarity and second contact element 85 a negative polarity.
  • the socket 24 is intended to be utilized in the power pack described in our co-pending European Patent Application 87 308 844.7 of even date. Because of the compatibility of the socket 24 with conventional cigar lighter socket-compatible plugs used with automotive appliances, there is the potential for inadvertent operation of the high current plug 22 in a standard cigar lighter socket in an automobile. Because the fusing system of an automobile often is set for low current cigar lighter operation (e.g., 6 amps), if a user attempts to operate a high current power tool or appliance from the car battery utilizing plug 22 there is a possibility of blowing the fuse or possibly causing damage to the automobile's electrical wiring system.

  • the inwardly turned lip portion 156 of cylindrical extension 100 is sized to have a minimum inner diameter 158 less than the outer diameter of the flange 154. Moreover, the axial extent of cylindrical extension 100 is sized so that lip portion 156 is spaced from pin 76 by a distance greater than the distance between flange 154 and heating element 146, thus precluding electrical contact between pin 76 and heating element 146.

Claims (15)

  1. Steckerbuchse (24) zur Aufnahme eines mit einer Zigarrenanzünder-Steckerbuchse kompatiblen Niederspannungssteckers (26) und Stecker (22) mit der Fähigkeit, höheren Strom zu führen, welche Steckerbuchse (24) aufweist:
    ein im wesentlichen zylindrisches Steckerbuchsengehäuse (70);
    einen ersten Schleifkontakt (76) an oder nahe an einem Ende des im wesentlichen zylindrischen Steckerbuchsengehäuses (70) an oder nahe an dessen Längsachse (72);
    einen zweiten Schleifkontakt (88a, b; 90a, b) an oder nahe an der zylindrischen Wand des Steckerbuchsengehäuses (70);
    eine erste Anlagefläche (126) an oder nahe an dem einen Ende des im wesentlichen zylindrischen Steckerbuchsengehäuses (70) an oder nahe an dessen Längsachse (72); und
    einer zweiten Anlagefläche (86) an oder nahe an der zylindrischen Wand des Steckerbuchsengehäuses (70);
    wobei der erste bzw. zweite Schleifkontakt (76; 88a, b; 90a, b) mit einem ersten bzw. zweiten Schleifkontakt (44; 56a, b; 58a, b) an dem Stecker (22), welcher die Fähigkeit hat, höheren Strom zu führen, zusammenwirken sollen und wobei die erste bzw. zweite Anlagefläche (126, 86) einen ersten bzw. zweiten mit Federspannung vorbelasteten Berührungskontakt (120, 124) an dem mit einer Zigarrenanzünder-Steckerbuchse kompatiblen Niederspannungsstecker (26) tragen sollen.
  2. Steckerbuchse nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der erste Schleifkontakt (76) die Seite (80) eines Stiftes (76) und die erste Anlagefläche (126) ein Ende des Stiftes (76) aufweist.
  3. Steckerbuchse nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der zweite Schleifkontakt wenigstens eine abstehende Kante (88a, b; 90a, b) aufweist, die im wesentlichen radial zu dem im wesentlichen zylindrischen Steckerbuchsengehäuse (70) verläuft.
  4. Steckerbuchse nach Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der zweite Schleifkontakt mit wenigstens ein Paar von abstehenden Kanten (88a, b) aufweist, die benachbart zueinander liegen und im wesentlichen radial zu dem im wesentlichen zylindrischen Steckerbuchsengehäuse 870) verlaufen.
  5. Steckerbuchse nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die zweite Anlagefläche einen trommelförmigen Bereich (86) aufweist.
  6. Steckerbuchse nach Anspruch 5, wenn abhängig von Anspruch 3 oder 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die wenigstens eine abstehende Kante einstückig mit dem trommelförmigen Bereich (86) ist.
  7. Steckerbuchse nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß nachgiebige Federmittel (106, 108) vorgesehen sind, um einen Stecker (22, 26) in der Steckerbuchse (24) zu halten.
  8. Steckerbuchse nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, die mit einer oder mehreren Schlitzen (102, 104) versehen ist, um bei Benutzung, die zweiten Schleifkontakte (52, 54) eines Steckers (22) in Ausrichtung zu den zweiten Schleifkontakten (88a, b; 90a, b) der Steckerbuchse (24) zu führen.
  9. Steckerbuchse nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie Mittel (148) enthält, um zu verhindern, daß die Steckerbuchse (24) einen Zigarrenanzünder betätigt.
  10. Steckerbuchse nach Anspruch 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Mittel einen Vorsprung (148) aufweisen, der, wenn ein Zigarrenanzünder (138) in die Steckerbuchse (24) eingesetzt wird, an dem Ende (152) des Zigarrenanzünders (138) anliegt und verhindert, daß er in Kontakt mit dem ersten Schleifkontakt (76) und der ersten Anlagefläche (126) kommt.
  11. Stecker (22) zur Verwendung mit einer Steckerbuchse gemäß einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Stecker (22) ein im wesentlichen zylindrisches Steckergehäuse (30) mit einem führenden Ende (34), einen ersten Schleifkontakt (44) an oder nahe an dem führenden Ende (34) an oder nahe an der Längsachse (32) des im wesentlichen zylindrischen Steckergehäuses (30) und einen zweiten Schleifkontakt (56a, b; 58a, b) aufweist, der im wesentlichen radial nach außen von dem im wesentlichen zylindrischen Steckergehäuse (30) verläuft.
  12. Stecker nach Anspruch 11, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der zweite Schleifkontakt im wesentlichen radial nach außen von diametral gegenüberliegenden Bereichen des im wesentlichen zylindrischen Steckergehäuses (30) verläuft.
  13. Stecker nach Anspruch 11 oder 12, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der zweite Schleifkontakt ein U-förmiges Teil (46) aufweist, und das mit dem Boden des "U" dem führenden Ende (34) des im wesentlichen zylindrischen Steckergehäuses (30) zugewandt angeordnet ist, wobei die äußeren Oberflächen (56a, b; 58a, b) der Seiten des "U" den zweiten Schleifkontakt bilden.
  14. Stecken nach Anspruch 11, 12 oder 13, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß Mittel (144) vorgesehen sind, um zu verhindern, daß der Stecker (22) in einer herkömmlichen Zigarrenanzünder-Steckerbuchse (130) betätigt wird.
  15. Verbindung mit einer Steckerbuchse gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 10 und einem Stecker gemäß einem der Ansprüche 11 bis 14.
