Abstract

To improve seating comfort of chair users of different anatomical build, the arm rests are height-adjustable with respect to the seat by coupling the arm rests with length-adjustable support rods (21) located adjacent the seat back. To match the chair to various shoulder configurations, the arm rests can be moved inwardly and outwardly with respect to a center line of the chair as well.

Description

Great efforts have been made in recent years to improve the comfort of work chairs. The main focus was on the adjustability of the seat and backrest, in particular on the synchronization of the movements of the seat and backrest. The armrests were largely ignored by this improvement trend.

Dies mag für einen Fahrzeugsitz, der insbesondere für Holzereifahrzeug bestimmt ist, zulässig sein, vermag aber nicht den hohen ästhetischen Ansprüchen genügen, die heute an Bürostühle gestellt werden.GB-A-2 068 719 shows a height-adjustable armrest with a vertical support arranged at the front of the seat, which can be loosened by means of an adjusting screw and then fastened again in the desired position by tightening the adjusting screw. This adjustment is quite cumbersome. It can happen that the armrest sinks to the lowest position when the adjusting screw is loosened. The user of the seat must then pull up the armrest with one hand and tighten the set screws with the other hand. Another disadvantage is the fact that when the armrest is adjusted downward, the carrier is also moved downward and projects with its lower end under the seat. This may be permissible for a vehicle seat, which is intended in particular for a woodworking vehicle, but it cannot meet the high aesthetic demands that are placed on office chairs today.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to create the prerequisite for armrests to meet the individual needs of the chair user and to have a simple and elegant design.

According to the invention, this is achieved in that the actuator has at least one thread which engages in a threaded bore of the carrier and a sleeve as a twist grip for height adjustment. Trials have shown that the right one Armrest height is of crucial importance for the wellbeing of the chair user. The correct height adjustment prevents postural damage. When the armrests are at the correct height, the chair user automatically uses them more, which relieves the spine. The periodic relief of the spine unexpectedly contributes greatly to the well-being of the chair user. Signs of fatigue, cramps in the back muscles and back pain are largely prevented if the armrests are properly adjusted.

In contrast to the prior art, the height adjustment in the chair according to the invention can be carried out simply by turning the actuator. The armrest carrier is not lowered under the seat, but its length is changed. This enables a simple and elegant design of the armrest. Since the actuator has a sleeve, the thread of the screws is covered, which is useful for aesthetic reasons.

The actuator advantageously has a screw with a right-hand thread and a screw with a Linds thread. This enables the height to be adjusted quickly and the possible height adjustment to be doubled.

A locking device, for example a spring washer, is advantageously provided in the sleeve to limit the height adjustment. This prevents the chair user from moving the screw out of the threaded hole. In order to make the height adjustment visible, a scale can be arranged on the carrier, which indicates the extent of the height adjustment. The respective armrest is advantageous directly at the front and rear by means of the adjustable Carrier hinged to the seat. This results in a simple and shapely chair construction. The respective armrest or the adjustable support at the front and rear of the seat can be articulated by means of an articulation element that can be attached to the seat. This articulation element can advantageously be attached to the seat in various positions in order to make the horizontal distance between the armrests changeable.

An advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the respective armrest runs in an arc from the back to the front and down. This results in a shapely design of the chair, while avoiding bumping the armrest against the office table or other furnishings.

An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the drawing. It shows:
  • FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of the chair with the height-adjustable armrests,
  • FIG. 2A shows a side view of an armrest with a support that can be changed in length by an actuator,
  • FIG. 2B shows, on an enlarged scale, a longitudinal section in the area of the actuator,
  • FIG. 3 shows a view of the armrest of FIG. 2A from above,
  • FIG. 4 shows a view of the length-adjustable carrier with the actuator,

The chair shown in Figure 1 consists essentially of the base 11, the seat 13, the backrest 15 and the armrests 17. The armrests 17 are adjustable in height.

An armrest 17 will now be described in more detail with reference to FIGS. 2 to 4. The backrest element 19 of the armrest 17 can have any shape. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the backrest element 19 is arcuate. It runs from back to front down. The backrest element 19 is preferably made of plastic. It can also have padding. The backrest element 19 is carried at the rear by an approximately vertically arranged support 21 which is variable in length. If the backrest element 19 is being executed, a length-adjustable carrier 21 can also be provided at the front. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the backrest element 19, however, has an angled portion 23 at the front, the end of which is articulated at 25 on an articulation element 27 arranged on the lower part of the seat 13 (FIG. 3). In a corresponding manner, the carrier 21 is also articulated on a pivot element 29 arranged at the bottom of the seat 13. As FIGS. 2 and 3 show, an armrest 17 essentially consists of the backrest element 19, the support 21 and the articulation elements 27, 29. The articulation elements 27, 29 have fastening holes 31, 33, which are used to fasten the armrest 17 to the chair. This attachment can take place at various positions on the seat, so that the distance between the armrests 17 can be adapted to the needs of the seat user. If one speaks here of fastening the armrests 17 to the seat 13, this is to be understood in a broader sense. For example, the attachment can also be carried out on the housing 35, which is arranged at the bottom of the seat 13 and encloses the synchronous mechanism.

It is now of particular importance that the supports 21 can be adjusted in height by means of an actuator 37. The height adjustment can be read on a scale 39 (Fig. 4). The carrier 21 consists of the lower part 41 and the upper part 43. The upper part 43 is connected to a plate 45 which is fastened to the backrest element 19 by means of screws 47. The actuator 37, which connects the parts 41 and 43 together, essentially consists of a bolt 49 with two counter-rotating threads, e.g. a right-hand thread 51 and a left-hand thread 53. These threads 51 and 53 are screwed into corresponding threaded bores 55, 57 in the upper part 43 and lower part 41 of the carrier. The central part 59 of the bolt 49 is provided with a sleeve 60, e.g. made of plastic, which each encompasses a portion of the parts 41, 43. A locking device, e.g. a spring ring 61 is provided in a groove 63 of a carrier part 43 in order to limit the height adjustment.

If the chair user wishes to adjust the height of the armrest 17, he only needs to turn the actuator 37. The degree of height adjustment can be read on the scale 39.
