Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the use of a furnace roller for the transport of elongated metallic annealing material with a rigid, rotatably mounted axis.
Such roles are used for the promotion of z. B. sheets or steel strips used in heat treatment in continuous furnaces. These partially driven furnace rollers made of heat-resistant steel are the cause of constant operating problems, particularly in the inlet area of the annealing furnace and the preheating zone.
After a short period of operation, pimple-like growths form on the rollers, which leads to considerable damage to the surface of the material to be conveyed, which is soft due to the heat treatment. In particular coated tapes, e.g. B. galvanized steel belts, have scratches and marks from the pimples of the oven rollers or from the oven rollers loosened and adhering to the belt surface growths.
The cause of the growth or pimples is seen in mill scale particles or other foreign bodies that stick to the oven rollers and can gradually grow up to more than the size of coffee beans or ring bulges in layers. The remedy is to blow in gases that inhibit pimple growth (US Pat. No. 2,671,038) into the gap between the annealing material and the furnace roller. Apart from the problem of blowing in the correct amount of gas depending on the annealing material and temperature, this is a very expensive process.
The same applies to the proposal (DE-OS 14 58 979) to introduce non-metallic, powdery particles such as oxides of magnesium, calcium, titanium or aluminum etc. between the transport roller and the material to be treated as an inhibitor against pimple growth.
The solution to the problem of high operating costs for the additional material is to coat the transport rollers with aluminum oxide (US Pat. No. 2,663,558) or ferrosilicon (US Pat. No. 2,695,248). However, practice has shown that the coating of the rollers is also complex and the service life is unsatisfactory. At the moment, the oven rolls are sometimes replaced and ground, sometimes even chrome-plated, after an operating time of only four hours.
Alternatives with constant or discontinuous (DE-OS 35 30 517) water cooling are judged to be unsatisfactory since the roller construction is very complex and / or the water consumption or the energy loss in the oven due to cooling affects the economy.
Experiments have shown that fluctuations in the characteristics of the furnace atmosphere immediately lead to an increased formation of pimples. Varying these conditions does not remedy the situation.
Minor improvements are achieved through the targeted setting of a relative speed between the transport roller and the annealing material, e.g. B. by 'speed control of the roller drives. This also causes damage to the surface of the heat-treated goods.
Furthermore, US Pat. No. 3,087,599 discloses a brush-type furnace roller for transporting aluminum plates through heating furnaces at temperatures of approximately 590 ° C. (1100 ° F.).
Proceeding from this prior art, the invention has for its object to use a furnace roller that avoids the formation of pimples or growths when used in hot-dip galvanizing plants and promotes the material to be treated in the furnace as far as possible without surface damage.
The object is achieved by the features mentioned in claim 1. Advantageous developments of the invention are covered by the dependent claims 2 to 5.
When using hot-dip galvanized steel strip, e.g. B. for car bodies, damage or adhesive growth on the galvanized surface are now only in the order of z. B. three pimples / m² sheet surface tolerated. This quality can be achieved with oven rolls of the type according to the invention.
It was surprisingly found that the hitherto unavoidable pimple growth is prevented if, contrary to the previous expectation, such oven rolls do not have a smooth cylindrical surface. If the effective, transporting "roll shell" is broken down into a number of load-bearing points, there is practically no growth. Obviously, the foreign bodies growing into pimples do not find enough support on such roller surfaces.
Good results are achieved if the load share of the roller jacket is reduced to 40 to 70% of the theoretical cylinder surface.
The band damage becomes too large below 20% of the load; with more than 80% load share, pimples grow again. The load-bearing elements of the furnace roller should be flat so that the specific surface pressure does not become too great and no surface damage to the annealing material is generated.
Small areas of 0.05 to 5 mm² in size have proven to be favorable for the load-bearing elements.
An irregular distribution of the load-bearing surfaces reduces the possibility that uniform marks appear on the annealing material and suppresses the periodic pimple growth.
Such a jacket structure of the furnace roller can be achieved simply by lacing disks on the rigid axis of the furnace roller and fixing them on the axis by means of grooves or springs and side plates. The disks consist of tightly pressed, commercially available round wire brushes, which are made of heat-resistant wire with a central holding ring that is open for receiving on the axis.
Another possibility is to wind brush strips helically around the rigid axle, to compress them and to fasten them to the axle. The brush heads then form the roller shell, the transport roller surface.

A steel strip 1 to be galvanized 3 mm thick and 1500 mm wide is conveyed through an oven of a hot-dip galvanizing plant, not shown, and is heat-treated in the process (FIG. 1). The furnace atmosphere (protective gas) and thus the steel strip 1 are heated to 800 ° C. by means of jet pipes 4 from gas burners (not shown) inserted into the
Pimples grow in particular on the first rollers in the inlet area of the annealing furnace.
