Description

The present invention relates to a method which makes it possible to analyze separately the different parameters of movement of a horse, for different objectives and in particular to reproduce them on a simulator.

Simulation techniques are known, in particular with regard to aircraft or tanks. However, up to the present time, the mathematical models have always calculated the value at each instant of each of the parameters of the movement of the aircraft so as to be able to reconstruct this movement as faithfully as possible.

This method has proven to be difficult to use in the case of complex and relatively random movements as is the case, for example for a horse moving at a walk, trotting, galloping or even performing obstacle clearance or figures ; because the mathematical laws governing the different parameters of a horse's movement are very complex and practically impossible to determine. If we even arrived at successive approximations to determine such laws, we would obtain a theoretical movement of a standard horse, which would not be of much practical interest.

When a horse moves, the saddle moves at variable speeds from front to back, from side to side, from top to bottom, that is to say along three axes X (longitudinal), Y (lateral) and Z (vertical) while performing rotations along these three axes: roll, pitch, yaw.

  • a- placer sur le cheval (la selle par exemple) en mouvement réel des moyens de mesure (accéléromètres, gyromètres, centrale à inertie) par l'intermédiaire desquels on mesure les vitesses de déplacement linéaire selon les trois axes X, Y, Z et éventuellement de déplacement en rotation selon ces mêmes axes ;
The method according to the present invention consists in:
  • a- place on the horse (the saddle for example) in real movement measuring means (accelerometers, gyrometers, inertial unit) by means of which the linear displacement speeds are measured along the three axes X, Y, Z and possibly displacement in rotation along these same axes;
  • b- from these measurements, establish the figurative curves, by repetitive periods, of speed and position variations for linear displacements and possibly for rotational displacements.

This gives a precise analysis of the parameters of the real movement of a given horse.

One can thus establish a certain number of groups of curves "variations of speed and position" for displacements according to the three axes X, Y, and Z; for example six groups of such curves, three for linear displacements and three for rotational displacements. The analysis of these groups of curves allows an analysis of the most characteristic parameters of the movement of a determined horse moving under determined conditions.

It may also be interesting outside the six parameters relating to the gait (that is to say the movement of the horse) to analyze other parameters specific to the horse such as movements of the neck and / or the neck. We will then proceed to a study of the movements of the neck, always along the same axes, namely the lowering or raising of the neck (pitch axis Y), lateral bending (yaw axis Z), rotation (axis of roll X) as well as movements of the nape of the neck: direct bending (pitching), lateral bending (yaw) rotation of the head (roll).

The examination of these curves, which are then specific to a horse, compared to those of other horses makes it possible to determine its performance and its aptitudes for different uses. This same examination makes it possible to detect irregularities in gait or pathological defects.

This process therefore allows a scientific analysis of the characteristics of the movement of a horse and its skills much more rigorous and precise than those which until now have been obtained only by the simple observation of specialists.

According to the present invention, it is possible, after the preceding phases, to introduce the curves obtained into a calculation model which determines, by summing said curves, the positions of the jacks of a simulation platform to reproduce the combined movements of the displacements of the horse.

There are many more or less complex simulation devices having a certain number of degrees of freedom and, depending on the complexity of the simulation that it is desired to obtain, some of the curves thus determined will be used or all of these curves.

For example, it is possible, for a simulation device with 3 degrees of freedom, being able to reproduce only linear movements along the three axes X, Y and Z, using only the curves of the linear displacements.

One can also use a platform with six degrees of freedom of the type consisting of two inverted triangular platforms, the three vertices of the lower triangle serving as a base, and the three vertices of the upper triangle being connected by six jacks, the volume geometric defined by the two triangles and the six cylinders with eight triangular faces.

Dans ce cas on peut utiliser les 6 groupes de courbes caractéristiques de l'allure du cheval et le modèle de calcul détermine, par sommation de ces six courbes les positions des six vérins de la plate-forme à six degrés de libertéIn this case one can use the 6 groups of curves characteristic of the pace of the horse and the calculation model determines, by summation of these six curves the positions of the six cylinders of the platform with six degrees of freedom

We can also use only some of these curves. By way of example, while using a platform with 6 degrees of freedom (therefore with 6 jacks), only the three groups of curves of linear displacements along the axes X, Y and Z, so that we obtained only translational displacements, without rotation, of the upper triangle: it turned out, however, that we thus obtained such a simulation of the movement of the horse as an experienced rider can recognize without hesitation, not only the gait of the horse, but what is the characteristic foot of the gait (gallop on the left, gallop on the right etc.)

The rider, who rides a horse undergoes a succession of positive and negative accelerations several times per second depending on each pace of the horse.

According to a first mode of implementation of the method according to the invention, one placed on the back of a horse (either on the pommel of the saddle when there was a rider, or on a surfaix when there was none step) three accelerometers arranged orthogonally along the 3 axes X, Y, and Z. We thus obtained a set of measurements from which we deduced the curves of variations in linear movement speed along the three axes.

Figures 1, 2 and 3 show three recordings along the vertical axis Z, in step (Figure 1) trotting (Figure 2) and galloping (Figure 3). These three recordings show the evolution over time (1/25 of a second) of the acceleration measured in 1/10 of G for Figures 2 and 3 and 1/100 of G for Figure 1. Examination of these figures shows that the signals are very legible and are characteristic of each gait: for example, we can see the complexity of the step (Figures 1 ), which has three positive and negative peaks for each of the half-strides. The analysis of these data then gives rise to a double integration which makes it possible to calculate the speed and the displacements (around an average position) and to an analysis by series of FOURRIER which makes it possible to distinguish, in this periodic phenomenon, the fundamental and harmonics therefore bring it back to a superposition of sinusoidal phenomena.

Figures 4 and 5 show the recording along the Z axis of two different horses, Figure 4 (which corresponds to Figure 3) being that of a horse A and Figure 5 that of a horse B. L 'examination of these curves shows that if they are both significant of the gallop, they are very different according to the two horses.

According to a second embodiment of the method according to the invention, an inertial unit has been placed on the horse's back, and this time without a rider. It was thus possible to simultaneously obtain the measurements of accelerations and variations in speed in linear displacement and in rotation along the three axes as well as the trajectory followed by the horse.

The method according to the invention also consists in modifying one or other of these curves at will so that the movement of the platform of the simulator can be modified at will.

For example, having stored in a computer the curves corresponding to the linear displacements of the step, those corresponding to the trot, those corresponding to the gallop and those corresponding to the jump, we did appear end to end on a screen the curves of the displacements along the X axis for the gallop and the jump and then we linked them to each other; we did the same for the curves along the Y axis and the Z axis: we thus obtained the simulation of the movement of a horse performing a jump from the pace of the gallop. By operating in the same way, we could simulate the movement of a horse jumping from the trot.

Thanks to this process, it is therefore possible to modify at will the curves representative of the various displacement parameters of the horse and consequently the simulation of the movement, which has considerable advantages.

Thus the trotting of a horse comprises approximately 130 beats per minute which is physically quite difficult to bear in particular for an adult (except obviously for a trained rider). It is possible thanks to the method according to the invention to restore a comfortable trot at 60 beats per minute and gradually increase to 130 depending on the progress of the rider: it is obvious that this is of great interest for training and security of the latter.

Likewise, the amplitude can be increased and the cadence reduced, which allows the rider to better perceive the movement characteristic of the pace.

Regarding the particular problem of show jumping: it is obvious that for health reasons we are obliged to limit the number of jumps to make a horse perform during a training session. On the other hand if the rider wants to perform 90 jumps (for example) in a work session to train: to assess the optimum beat point according to an obstacle or a course, to appreciate the useful train of a course, to recreate difficult situations, he can do it on the simulator.

We can also develop the endurance of a rider.

This process is particularly useful for rehabilitation by horse riding for the physically and motor handicapped: by reducing cadence and amplitude we allow a better adaptation to the difficulties posed by horse riding. Likewise, it can be very beneficial to make medical personnel feel such or such sensation by decomposition, slowing down or increase in amplitude.

Thanks to this process it is possible for a determined horse to record phenomena of pathology of pace, therefore to contribute to the early detection and identification of irregularities and lameness. Or even after a phase of systematic analysis of the recordings of the gaits of horses performing in competition, to define the ideal profile of a competition horse, for the different disciplines of equitation.

It turns out that the restitution of sensations to the rider by a simulator can involve alteration either in amplitude or in cadence of certain parameters: it is possible to remedy it using the method according to the invention since it is possible to modify will each of the curves.

In the various examples, the case of the different gaits (steps, trots, gallops) has been cited, the invention is of course applicable not only to movements in a straight line but also to the cases of the figures.

In the example given above, the case has been described where the modifications of the curves resulting from the recordings were carried out by connection after visualization. It is also possible by means of several sliders, to act on the cadence or the amplitudes.

According to the present invention there are signal generators on the simulator which act on the course of the simulation. Thus, for example, pressure sensors are placed at the level of the rider's knees and under the saddle so that when the rider presses his knees or plays his plate, this acts on the course of the curves in the simulator control module (more or slower depending on the pressure). Similarly, sensors are placed on the jaw so that when the rider exerts tension on the reins, this acts on the course of the curves in the control module; the two signals can obviously be superimposed. It is thus possible to have an action of the rider on the course of the simulation which is no longer only passive but interactive.
