Abstract

The invention relates to a protective hood having a viewing window and an oxygen mask equipped with a breathing-gas connection for an oxygen supply. The protective hood is improved in that the oxygen supply is first established unhindered and the protective hood can be pulled over the head with a reliable manual movement when required without the oxygen supply having to be interrupted. Such a protective hood is especially useable by passengers in an aircraft. The protective hood is packed such that the hood is rolled up toward the front in four mutually perpendicular directions in the direction of the breathing-gas connection for the oxygen mask so that a rip loop holds the rolled parts together by means of a VELCRO closure. The rip loop is attached to the hood in the region thereof corresponding to the nape of the neck. For the required situation and while the user holds the oxygen mask in place on the face, the user need only pull on the loop thereby causing the rolled hood to unfold and the edge of the hood can be simply pulled over the head.

Description

The invention relates to a folded protective hood with a viewing window and an oxygen mask, which is provided with a breathing gas connection for oxygen supply.

Protective hoods of this type are used, for example, for passengers in aircraft in order to provide them with suitable protection against smoke in an emergency and a necessary supply of oxygen in the event of decompression. Such a combined protective hood has been described in US-A-4,559,939.

However, the handling of such combined protective hoods is complex in that the protective hood must first be pulled over the head before the breathing connection for oxygen supply can be established. This handling process unnecessarily extends the time until the oxygen supply in the decompression case actually benefits the passenger. In the event of decompression, the first priority is to ensure the necessary oxygen supply. This can be achieved with the known protective hood by initially pressing only the mask against the face. If, in the course of an emergency, there is a nuisance or danger in the development of smoke, which requires the installation of a smoke protection hood, the previously created one must Oxygen mask removed, the protective hood pulled over the head and the respiratory gas supply can be restored by putting the oxygen mask on an appropriate connection provided on the protective hood. During the execution of these actions, the passenger is disconnected from the oxygen supply and has to unfold the hood and pull it over his head. In an emergency, however, it is not possible to spend sufficient time and care for this work, so that the hood can be misplaced and incorrectly seated.

The present invention is therefore based on the object of improving a protective hood of the type mentioned so that initially the oxygen supply can be ensured unimpeded and, if necessary, the protective hood can be pulled over the head with a secure handle without interrupting the oxygen supply needs.

The problem is solved with the features shown in the characterizing part of claim 1.

The advantage of the invention lies essentially in the fact that the protective hood, when folded, turns the free inner surface of the oxygen mask towards the passenger, so that in the event of decompression he can immediately put on the mask and is supplied with oxygen. If it becomes necessary during this time to pull the protective hood over the head, the passenger need only pull on the edge of the handle with one hand, so that the inner surface of the protective hood folded outwards unfolds automatically as a result of the pulling action and with one Access can be securely applied over the head to the neck. During this time, the oxygen mask can be kept pressed on the mouth and nose area with the other hand, since the protective hood can be pulled over with only one hand.

The folded protective hood requires only a little more space than the oxygen mask itself and does not hinder the handling of the oxygen mask during breathing in the event of decompression. The pack of the hood is small and therefore requires little storage space.

It proves to be particularly advantageous to design both the holding elements and the grip edge as Velcro fasteners, which release themselves when the hood is pulled over and release the wound ends of the protective hood.

The edge of the handle is expediently formed from a holding loop, but it can also be designed as a passage opening at the edge of the hood opening in the neck area.

An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by the drawing and explained in more detail below.

The folded protective hood seen from the mask side.

The protective hood (1) shown in FIG. 1, part a, is drawn in the expanded state and shows a head region (2) with a viewing window (3), under which a breathing gas connection (4) is provided with an exhalation valve (5) for the oxygen mask behind it is. The hood edge (7) closes off the neck area (8) of the hood (1) located below the viewing window. A breathing bag (9) is attached to the breathing gas connection (4) and can be connected to an oxygen source (not shown) via a piece of hose (10). The hood (1) shown in part figure a is first rolled up along the arrows A from the back to the front until the grip edge attached to the rear part of the hood edge (7) emerges in the form of a loop (11) (see part figure b). Then the front section of the hood edge (7) is also rolled up from the back to the front in the direction of the arrows B in the direction of the connector (4). The upper roller (12) and lower roller (13) shown in partial figure c are located in the vertical direction on both sides of the connecting piece (4) and the exhalation valve (5). The loop (11) is folded over in the direction of the arrows C in the direction of the connector (4) and the two connecting sides (15) between the ends of both rollers (12, 13) are also folded in the direction of the arrows D towards the connector (4). Thereafter, as can be seen in partial figure e, attached holding elements (14) in the form of Velcro strips are visible on the inside, which are stitched with the corresponding Velcro strips (14) of the loop (11) folded up (directional arrows E). The fully folded protective hood according to sub-figure f is thus wound together from all four directions to the connecting piece (4) and the exhalation valve (5) and is held together by the loop (11). It shows on the back of Figure 2 the unfolded part of the inner wall (16) of the hood (1) in the exposed area around the oxygen mask (6), the sealing edge (17) of the user-facing inlet openings of the breathing gas connection (4) and Exhales valve (5) encloses.
