Abstract

Automatic light control apparatus for a television camera system utilises a gated image intensifier (13) wherein a pair of laser diodes (CR1, CR3) illuminate, respectively, a pair of avalanche photodiodes (CR2, CR4) to apply switching voltages to the image intensifier (13). Low-level gating signals are utilised to activate the laser diodes (CR1, CR3) which are gated on and off in complementary fashion, whereby the image intensifier (13) is turned on for pulse intervals inversely proportional to the brightness of the scene being televised.
