Abstract

A male urine collection bag comprises a bag (1) and an adhesive tape (5), disposed adjacent to the inlet opening of said bag and serving as a fixing means. The length of said adhesive tape is less than the circumference of the intake opening of the bag (1) and the circumference of the intake opening of said bag is greater than the external dimension of the penis. Therefore, when fixing the bag to the penis, the additional part of the circumference of the intake opening of said bag is pleated or folded around the penis. In order to allow the positioning of the urine collection bag, said adhesive tape is over part of its length (6) fixed to the surface of the external wall of a bag, the part detached from said wall being provided with a strip. removable cover (7). The adhesive tape is preferably made of a plastic material.

Description

Urine bag for men.
The present invention relates to a urine bag intended for men. The urine bag comprises a bag member and an adhesive tape or the like adjacent to the inlet open¬ ing of said bag member and serving as a fastening means.
There are several prior known solutions for fastening urine bags to the penis, said bags being intended es¬ pecially for men without restraining ability. One of such prior known solutions is a string arrangement at the inlet opening of a bag member for tying the bag around the penis. However, this type of solution is often unpleasant for a user and, furthermore, there are sealing problems, in other words a sufficiently good sealing cannot be obtained between bag member and penis.
Another prior known approach to the urine bag fasten¬ ing problem is disclosed in DK Patent 126 020. This specification discloses a urine bag, whose inner wall adjacent to the inlet opening is fitted with a mater- ial which is self-adhering over part of its periphery. K soϊft±Qn of the periphery of the inlet opening of a urine bag corresponding to the circumference of penis is without said- self-adhering material. A urine bag as set forth in the Danish Patent is inconvenient to position and its manufacturing is technically diffi¬ cult.
An object of this invention is to provide a urine bag which is substantially more convenient to use, is more reliable and, at the same time, is simple to anufact- ure. In order to fulfil this objective, a urine bag of the invention is essentially characterized in that
the length of an adhesive tape is less than the circumference of the inlet opening of a bag member, while the circumference of the in- 5 let opening of a bag member is more than the external dimension of penis and that
the adhesive tape is over part of its length fastened to the external surface of the wall of a bag member, the portion loose from the 10 wall being provided with a removable cover strip.
A urine bag designed as explained above is possible to fasten around the penis positioned in the inlet open¬ ing e.g.. by wrapping the extra portion of said inlet
15 opening around the penis and by- removing the adhesive tape cover strip and by fastening the fold to the ex¬ ternal wall of a bag member by means of the adhesive tape. Thus, the penis is only in contact with the in¬ ner wall of a bag member for added convenience in use.
20 Since modern adhesive tapes are at least somewhat elas¬ tic, the necessary tightening can be achieved by uti¬ lizing this quality of an adhesive tape. The use of an adhesive tape offers also a possibility of adjust¬ ing the tightness of a urine bag, if necessary. It is
25 obvisous that manufacturing of a urine bag as explain¬ ed above is quite simple.
A few preferred embodiments of the invention are set forth in the annexed subclaims.
The invention will now be described in more detail -"■0 with reference made to the embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings, in which
figs. 1a and 1b illustrate in a. side, view the applic¬ ations of a urine bag of the invention and
figs. 2a and 2b show the urine bags of figs. 1a and 1b in position.
A urine bag as shown in fig. 1a comprises a bag member 1, consisting of a wall structure 2. In its flattened state, the bag is of a rectangualr shape and its inlet opening 3 is on the side opposite to bottom 4. Adja¬ cent to the inlet opening and parallel to the rim of said inlet opening is fastened an adhesive tape 5 by its first end 6. The unfastened, wall-facing adhesive surface of adhesive tape 5 is provided with a cover strip 7. The length of adhesive tape 5 is less than the circumference of inlet opening 3 of said bag mem¬ ber 1. On the other hand, the circumference of the inlet opening of said bag member is more than the ex¬ ternal dimension of penis. Adjacent to the bottom of bag member 1 is fastened another adhesive tape 9 or a like sticker means for fastening the bag to the thigh or clothes of a user.
A urine bag as shown in fig. 1a is fastened as illustrat¬ ed in fig. 2a to the penis, the inlet opening of said bag member being crimped or its extra portion 10 being folded around the penis and the cover strip of said ad¬ hesive tape being removed and the adhesive tape being wrapped around, the penis so as to fasten it in a suffic¬ ient degree to. the outer surface of the wall of bag mem- ber 1. Since adhesive tapes can be made of an elastic material, such as foamed polyethylene or polyurethane, a. necessary tightness is obtained by utilizing this elastic quality.
A urine bag as. shown in fig. 1b includes a bag member 1 of a plastic material, consisting of a wall structure 2 put together with side seams 11 and 12 and a bottom fold. In its flattened state, the bag is in the shape of a rectangle and its inlet opening 3 is on the side opposite to bottom 4. Adjacent to the inlet opening and parallel to the rim of said inlet opening is fast- ened an adhesive tape 5 serving as a fastening means.
According to fig. 1b, the urine bag is provided with a skirt 13, which joins the rim of inlet opening 3 and whose free rim 14 is inside the bag. The joining point is preferably a fold 15 between bag wall structure 2 and a skirt 6. Skirt 13 is preferably of the same -length as the circumference of inlet opening 3. According to fig. 2b, skirt 13 is placed around the penis when the urine bag is in position. Together with the urine bag wall structure 2, said skirt 13 defines an annular chamber whose bottom is usually closed by adhesive tape 5 or at least by fold 15. The open rim of th-is chamber, fitted inside the urine bag, is ready to receive urine in the chamber in case the bag turns into a position in which a flow of urine towards the penis is possible.
The most simple way of designing a skirt of the invent¬ ion, especially when manufacturing a urine bag made of plastic, sheeting material, is to fold, prior to join¬ ing the walls together with side, seams 11 and 12, the skirt portion, serving as an extension of the urine bag wall structure inside a bag blank. Produced this way is a urine bag which is side seamed and provided with a bottom fold. Skirt 13 can be sealed to the urine bag side, seams 11 and 12. A thus formed, skirt 13 is of the same length, as the circumference of the inlet opening and attached to the urine bag by way of a fold 15 at the inlet opening as well as side, seams 11 and 12, Naturally, skirt 13 may also cover just part of the circumference of the inlet opening. A skirt can also be designed by fastening it to the inner surface of the wall structure of a urine bag e.g. adjacent to the adhesive tape.
It is preferable that the free rim 14 of skirt 13 be closer to the bag bottom 4 than adhesive tape 5 or a like whereby, when a urine bag is in its position, the bottom of a chamber defined by skirt 13 and wall structure 2 is sealed by adhesive tape 5.
