Abstract

Chair having seat and back parts capable of springy tilting relative to each other. The seat and back parts are provided in the region where they join each other with a reduced width to intensify the relative tilting thereof. Longitudinal slots are also provided in the seat and extend from the region of reduced width to further intensify this relative tilting. The chair frame is provided with fastening elements in the region of the front edge of the seat for tilting attachment of seat and back.

Description

The invention relates to a chair in which the seat and back are simultaneously formed as the supporting structure for this one-piece shell and are provided in the region of the bend of the rear end of the seat to the back of transverse slots starting in the seat direction longitudinal slots in the seat, and that the shell is either arranged to pivot about the front edge of the seat, or the seat of the shell is firmly attached to the chair frame.

In known chairs of this type (US Pat. No. 4,529,247 and DE-GM 75 00 152), the longitudinal slots running in the seat direction are connected to one another by a transverse slot in such a way that an overall U-shaped slot is essentially in the seat area of the one-piece Shell results. This increases the resilient pivotability of the back about a horizontal axis extending through the front end points of the longitudinal slots running in the direction of the seat. But since the transverse slot forming the base of the U extends over the entire seat width, the slot in question must be covered by an elastic pad be used to prevent bruises in the buttocks of people sitting on the chair. For one Such a slot design cannot therefore be used for a shell without additional padding or the like. In addition, if the seat of the shell is attached to the chair frame by means of the narrow strips on both sides between the longitudinal slots extending in the direction of the seat and the seat edges, the rear part of the seat tends to spring downwards so that the front end of the seat rises and thereby presses against the undersides of the thighs of a person sitting on the chair (FIG. 4 of US Pat. No. 4,529,247), which can only be compensated for in part if the seat and back shells are all similar to a support arm about a transverse axis at the front end of the seat is resiliently pivotally attached to the chair frame (claim 16 of US Pat. No. 4,529,247).

The object of the invention is to provide a solution which enables equally good elastic resilience between the seat and back of the one-piece shell, as in the known chairs described above, without the disadvantages described above in the transition area between seat and back through the transverse slot of an overall U-shaped slot to have to put up with.

In a chair of the type described in the introduction, this object is achieved according to the invention in that the transverse slots as waist-like recesses running from the outside inwards to the longitudinal slots or as simple Cross slots are formed so that the area of the shell located between the longitudinal slots running in the direction of the seat continues from the seat into the back.

Because of this design, there is no longer any handicap for the person sitting on the chair in the central transition area between the seat and back, but nevertheless an equally good elasticity between the seat and back is ensured with a corresponding enlargement of the seat angle opening, as in the known chairs with a U-shaped slot design, which is very desirable for a comfortable backward leaning and safe support taking place, the size of the seat angle opening that can be achieved essentially depends on the length of the longitudinal slots extending in the seat direction. It can also be seen that the one-piece shell can either be arranged so as to be resiliently pivotable about the front edge of the seat, or the seat of the shell can be firmly attached to the chair frame, in the latter case practically the entire seat area being available for attachment to the chair frame.

A structurally particularly simple design is obtained when the resilient clamping of the one-piece shell on the chair frame by supporting and fastening the front end of the seat on a tra fixed to the chair frame verse is formed such that the entire one-piece shell is resiliently pivotable about the rear edge of the cross member as a transverse axis.

The crossmember can be formed by an essentially horizontally arranged plate, so that there is a correspondingly wide contact surface of the shell on the crossmember.

Dabei empfiehlt es sich dann, die obere Hinterkante der Platte abgerundet auszubilden, so daß sich bei der federnden Verschwenkbewegung der Schale um diese als Schwenkachse wirkende Hinterkante keine Einkerburg in dem der oberen Hinterkante gegenüberliegenden Bereich der Schale ergibtIt is then recommended that the upper rear edge of the plate be rounded, so that there is no indentation in the area of the shell opposite the upper rear edge when the shell is pivoted resiliently about this rear edge, which acts as a pivot axis

In the case of a chair with normal four legs, it is advisable to have the rear chair legs, which are only slightly downwardly inclined from the crossbeam, branched beneath the seat of the one-piece shell and oriented essentially vertically at the end of the seat. As a result, the relevant rear chair legs can be connected to the crossmember in a structurally particularly simple manner and nevertheless do not prevent the one-piece shell from pivoting downward in the region of the seat.

The chair frame can also be designed in any other way, for example as a cantilever chair or as a telescopic bogie.

The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, for example
  • 1 is a particularly advantageous embodiment of a chair with seat and back-forming one-piece shell in side view,
  • 2 the chair according to FIG. 1 in plan view,
  • 3 is a side view of a swivel chair with seat and back shell,
  • 4 is a top view of the chair according to FIG. 3,
  • Fig. 5 shows a chair with seat and back shell with free-swinging chair frame in side view and in
  • Fig. 6 the chair of FIG. 5 in plan view.

The chair according to FIGS. 1 and 2 has two front chair legs 1 formed from tubular profiles, which are connected to one another by a plate-shaped cross member 2. On the traverse 2 are two lower chair legs 3 via a connecting bridge 4 connected to the cross member 2, preferably by welding. The rear lower chair legs 3 initially slope slightly downward from the cross member 2 and are directed essentially downwards at the rear end of the chair.

On the cross member 2, a one-piece, seat 5 and back 6 forming shell 7 made of suitable resilient material such as plywood, plastic or metal is firmly clamped by means of fastening screws or rivets 8, such that the shell 7 as a whole is resiliently pivotable, the part of the seat 5 lying in front of the traverse 2 essentially retains its position. The rear upper edge of the cross member 2 is expediently rounded, so that when the region of the shell 7 lying behind the cross member 2 is pivoted, no notch is produced in the region opposite the rear upper edge of the cross member 2.

Between the seat 5 and the back 6 of the shell 7, a waist-like indentation 9 is formed and from the inner end of this indentation 9 incisions or longitudinal slots 10 in the seat 5 of the shell 7, which run forward in the direction of the seat, such that when the back 6 is loaded by itself opposing person the back 6 can pivot about a horizontal axis relative to the seat 5, which extends through the front ends of the longitudinal slots 10.

Due to this design, it can be seen that there is a double reinforcement of the resilient adjustability between seat 5 and back 6 of the shell 7, in particular by the waist-like retraction 9, but in particular also by the longitudinal slots 10 between seat 5 which extend in the direction of the seat and back 6, so that with a corresponding load on the back 6 when the person using the chair leans back, a particularly large enlargement of the seat angle opening, ie the angle between seat 5 and back 6 results, as is very desirable for ergonomic reasons. As shown in FIG. 1, the downward springing of the shell 7 is not hindered by the rear chair legs when the chair is used, because, despite the space-saving design, they run correspondingly slightly downward beneath the seat 5.

Das Federungsverhalten ist dann das gleiche beim zuvor bescriebenen Stuhl gemäß Fig. 1 und 2.3 and 4 has a conventional height-adjustable bogie 13 which can be moved by means of rollers 14. At the upper end of a rotatable telescopic part 15, a fork-shaped fastening element 16 is arranged, which is provided with two forwardly extending prongs 17, which are connected to a plate-shaped cross member 18, preferably welded to this cross member 18 in the same manner as in the embodiment according to 1 and 2, the one described there in detail, one-piece seat 5 and back 6 forming shell 7 attached, which is referred to to avoid repetition in full. The suspension behavior is then the same in the previously described chair according to FIGS. 1 and 2.

An der Traverse 27 ist in gleicher Weise wie bei der Ausführungsform nach den Fig. 1 und 2 die dort im einzelnen beschriebene, einteilige Sitz 5 und Rücken 6 bildende Schale 7 befestigt, worauf zur Vermeidung von Wiederholungen in vollem Umfang Bezug genommen wird.5 and 6, the chair is designed with a so-called cantilever chair frame 23, ie a resilient tubular frame which rests on the floor with a U-shaped base 24, with the legs of the U-shaped base 24 continue in substantially vertical front chair legs 25. In the case of a classic cantilever chair, the upward-pointing tubes of the front chair legs are then bent twice essentially at right angles to form the supporting structure for a seat and back. 5 and 6, the upward tube parts of the front chair legs 25, however, are only extended by a short piece 26 at the upper end after turning into the horizontal and a cross member 27 is fastened between the tube pieces 26, preferably by welding. On the traverse 27, in the same way as in the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2, the one-piece seat 5 and back 6 forming shell 7, which is described in detail there, is fastened, to which reference is made in its entirety to avoid repetitions.

As can be seen, a cantilever chair frame can be provided in this way with a shell-shaped seat and back construction, as is often desired and thereby the particularly advantageous reinforcement of the resilient adjustability between seat 5 and back 6 can be achieved, as is the case with the Embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2 is described in detail. It is only to be accepted that, due to the cantilever chair frame, the front end of the seat 5 can shift on a circular path depending on the changing load as a result of a different seating position of the person using the chair, the center of which is approximately at the lower end of the chair legs 25 lies. In cases where the chair in question is not directly associated with other furniture, such as desks or the like, this generally does not matter.

Claims (4)

1. Chair, in which the seat and back are formed as a single shell simultaneously forming the chair support structure, and in which longitudinal slots are provided in the seat in the region of the bend of the rear end of the seat to the back, these slots starting from transverse slots and extending forwards in the sitting direction, the shell either being resiliently pivotably mounted about the front edge of the seat or the seat of the shell being firmly fixed to the chair frame, characterised in that the transverse slots are formed as waist-like tapers extending inwards to the longitudinal slots (10) or as simple transverse slots, so that the region of the shell (7) located between the longitudinal slots (10) extending in the sitting direction continues from the seat (5) continuously into the back (6).
2. Chair according to claim 1, characterised in that the resilient mounting of the one-piece shell (7) on the chair frame is formed by placing and fixing the front end of the seat (5) on a cross-bar (2) fixed to the chair frame.
3. Chair according to claim 2, characterised in that the cross-bar (2) is formed by a plate mounted substantially horizontally.
4. Chair according to claim 3, characterised in that the upper rear edge of the plate is rounded.
