Definitions
- the invention relates to a method according to the preamble of claim 1 and a device for performing the same.
- Any actuation mechanism e.g. Valves must then work through a completely sealed wall, i.e. it must be thermal or electromagnetic actuation signals.
- this type does not allow any conclusions to be drawn as to whether the desired effect has occurred within the non-visible container or not.
- the container to be tested is placed in a pressure chamber filled with helium, the amount of helium infiltrated into the container itself is measured, or the inside of the container is charged with helium, placed in a vacuum chamber, and the amount of helium then escaping from the container is measured.
- Another method is the so-called "bombing” method, i.e. the closed container is placed in a pressure chamber and kept under positive pressure in the helium atmosphere for a long time. The pressure chamber is then evacuated. The helium flowing out of the container is then measured. The leakage of the container can then be concluded from the measured values.
- Another method is the use of a cartridge that has a defined helium leakage through a dif fi nished capillary. This cartridge is inserted into the container before it is closed and then slowly loses its helium content. The container is then placed in a vacuum chamber and the amount of helium emerging from the container is measured. Arranged in a cavity, a valve can also be connected to the container, through which the container is filled with helium. The above The cavity is closed to the outside with a stopper or a screw plug and additionally sealed with a sealing seam.
- the "bombing" method has the disadvantage of low accuracy (up to 10 ⁇ 4 mbar 1 / s).
- the release of the helium from a defined capillary has the disadvantage that, taking into account the possible leakage of the container and its detectability, a large amount of helium must be used in the container, which then leads to a relatively high pressure increase in the container if the container is completely sealed leads.
- the invention has for its object to provide a method and devices with which a closed container, which is arranged in an inaccessible and non-visible additional container, can be demonstrably opened.
- the helium is first located in a cartridge that can be screwed into the container or even inserted before the container is closed.
- the helium can be briefly released into the container from the cartridge at a defined point in time, which can be freely selected.
- the release of the helium can also be heard acoustically outside the container, since the gas is released via a pipe.
- the closure member of the cartridge is opened by increasing the temperature.
- the invention can be used in particular in containers with radioactive inventory which can only be handled, welded and checked for leaks in hot cells.
- the method for checking the tightness of fuel element containers or molds with highly radioactive, glazed waste is particularly suitable, since the closure element of the cartridge consists of a soft solder plug and this plug can be melted out by local heating.
- the method can therefore be used without large technical installations in hot cells, large pressure increases in the container being avoided, the introduction method also being able to be used at high temperatures, the period of time required for the sealing (for welding) of the container without affecting the Accuracy of the measurement is and a precisely defined amount of helium is released at a certain point in time. There is no weakening of the container construction when using the invention, or weakening can be avoided.
- FIG. 1 shows in section such a mold 1 in which glass 2 is to be accommodated, a cavity 4 remaining between the glass surface and the tightly welded-on cover 3.
- a first extension or mushroom head 5 for manipulating the mold 1 is fixedly arranged on the lid 3.
- the cartridge 6 with valve 7 and pipe 8 is fastened in the cavity 4, in which helium is accommodated, which is to be released after the cover 3 is welded on.
- the gas is released acoustically via the whistle 8.
- the valve 7 is provided for introducing the gas into the cartridge 6, but is and remains tightly sealed when it is installed in the mold 1.
- the cartridge 6 is to be screwed into the mushroom head 5 of the mold cover 3.
- the cartridge 6 is previously filled with a predetermined amount of helium via the valve 7.
- a heating device 9 surrounding the mushroom head 5 is provided, the function of which is described with reference to FIG. 2.
- the cartridge 6 also shows in section the closer area of the cartridge 6 to the mushroom head 5.
- the cartridge 6 has a cylindrical extension 10 which is screwed into a recess 11 of the mushroom head 5 from below.
- a sealing ring 12 seals off the recess 11.
- This bore 14 is closed with a soft solder plug 15 in the area of the mushroom head 5 until it is transferred by means of the heating device 9 by heat transfer the mushroom head 5 on the extension 10 a temperature is reached which allows it to melt.
- the gas (He) located in the interior 13 pushes the molten material out of the bore 14 into the recess 11.
- the outflowing gas is then passed through a capillary 16 (which can run completely in the wall material if the wall of the cartridge 6 is sufficiently thick) through the extension 10 and the interior 13 to the opening 17 of the pipe 8, which then emits the acoustic signal (in the case of several Cartridges, the pitch of the pipes or the melting temperature of the soft solder plugs can be varied).
- the access 18 to the capillary 16 is located in the recess 11, so that the gas is forced to flow out via the pipe 8.
- the access 18 is bent so that it cannot be blocked by soft solder.
- the pipe 8 could also be placed directly on the bore 14 if the melting material of the sealing plug 15 does not block the pipe 8, i.e. can render ineffective. Bore 14 and capillary 16 together form a connecting path between gas space 13 and pipe 8.
- the helium is released from the cartridge 6, this takes place, as shown, via a continuous bore 14, which is sealed with soft solder 15 before the release.
- the melting point of this soft solder determines the temperature at which the release takes place. This sudden release or the melting of the stopper 15 is initiated by the heating device 9 to be placed over the mushroom head 5.
- the melting point can be set with a wide variety of soft solders from 30 to a few 100 ° C.
- the released gas then flows (for a short time, in a relatively large amount) through the soldered capillary tube 16 through the pipe 8 into the space 4 to be checked.
- the acoustic signal that arises indicates that the gas is flowing out.
- the capillary tube 16 and the pipe 8 are in the cartridge 6 installed gas-gas, for example soldered, as well as the valve 7, which is only shown schematically.
- the dimensions of the cartridge 6 depend on the required measuring accuracy of the system, on the sensitivity of the mass spectrometer used in the measurement and the temperature prevailing during the measurement, as well as on the free volume that has to be filled with helium.
- the advantage of the overall system can be seen in the fact that the gas can be released in a targeted manner.
- closures of the bore with bimetal elements, decomposing chemical compounds and the like are also available. applicable.

Description
The invention relates to a method according to the preamble of claim 1 and a device for performing the same.
A particular problem arises when checking the tightness of containers using a helium leak test or when starting chemical reactions with a defined release of one or more reaction partners in a container closed from the outside if there is no passage or opening in its interior, e.g. for the purpose of manipulating equipment arranged in closed containers. Any actuation mechanism e.g. Valves must then work through a completely sealed wall, i.e. it must be thermal or electromagnetic actuation signals. However, this type does not allow any conclusions to be drawn as to whether the desired effect has occurred within the non-visible container or not.
Wutz, Adam, Walcher: Theorie und Praxis der Vakuumtechnik (1982) oder Leybold Katalog).Leak tests of containers using a helium leak test are described in detail in various textbooks (e.g. Wutz, Adam, Walcher: Theory and Practice of Vacuum Technology (1982) or Leybold catalog).
In this method, the container to be tested is placed in a pressure chamber filled with helium, the amount of helium infiltrated into the container itself is measured, or the inside of the container is charged with helium, placed in a vacuum chamber, and the amount of helium then escaping from the container is measured.
Another method is the so-called "bombing" method, i.e. the closed container is placed in a pressure chamber and kept under positive pressure in the helium atmosphere for a long time. The pressure chamber is then evacuated. The helium flowing out of the container is then measured. The leakage of the container can then be concluded from the measured values.
Another method is the use of a cartridge that has a defined helium leakage through a dif fi nished capillary.
These overpressure and vacuum processes require a connection to the container, which, after a leak test has been carried out, must be closed again and checked again separately. This is particularly complex when checking containers with radioactive content, since all handling (welding or unscrewing the filler neck or dispensing neck) must be carried out remotely.
Das "bombing"-Verfahren hat den Nachteil der geringen Genauigkeit (bis 10⁻⁴ mbar 1/s).The "bombing" method has the disadvantage of low accuracy (up to 10⁻⁴ mbar 1 / s).
The release of the helium from a defined capillary has the disadvantage that, taking into account the possible leakage of the container and its detectability, a large amount of helium must be used in the container, which then leads to a relatively high pressure increase in the container if the container is completely sealed leads.
The invention has for its object to provide a method and devices with which a closed container, which is arranged in an inaccessible and non-visible additional container, can be demonstrably opened.
The solution is described in the characterizing features of claim 1.
The remaining claims represent advantageous devices for carrying out the method and embodiments thereof.
Particular advantages result from the invention when checking the tightness of containers by means of a helium test. The helium is first located in a cartridge that can be screwed into the container or even inserted before the container is closed. The helium can be briefly released into the container from the cartridge at a defined point in time, which can be freely selected. The release of the helium can also be heard acoustically outside the container, since the gas is released via a pipe. The closure member of the cartridge is opened by increasing the temperature.
The invention can be used in particular in containers with radioactive inventory which can only be handled, welded and checked for leaks in hot cells. The method for checking the tightness of fuel element containers or molds with highly radioactive, glazed waste is particularly suitable, since the closure element of the cartridge consists of a soft solder plug and this plug can be melted out by local heating.
The method can therefore be used without large technical installations in hot cells, large pressure increases in the container being avoided, the introduction method also being able to be used at high temperatures, the period of time required for the sealing (for welding) of the container without affecting the Accuracy of the measurement is and a precisely defined amount of helium is released at a certain point in time. There is no weakening of the container construction when using the invention, or weakening can be avoided.
The invention is described below with reference to an embodiment using FIGS. 1 and 2.
This is the special case of a cartridge, which can in principle be used in molds for glazed, highly radioactive waste. The dimensioning was carried out so that after the release of the helium gas, a partial pressure of about 0.2 bar He is created in the free volume of the mold. The explanation based on the specific example does not limit the use of the cartridge in a different shape and dimension.
Das im Innenraum 13 befindliche Gas (He) stößt das geschmolzene Material aus der Bohrung 14 in die Ausnehmung 11 hinein.2 also shows in section the closer area of the
The outflowing gas is then passed through a capillary 16 (which can run completely in the wall material if the wall of the
If the helium is released from the
The dimensions of the cartridge 6 (volume and pressure) depend on the required measuring accuracy of the system, on the sensitivity of the mass spectrometer used in the measurement and the temperature prevailing during the measurement, as well as on the free volume that has to be filled with helium. The advantage of the overall system can be seen in the fact that the gas can be released in a targeted manner.
As an alternative to the
