- the engine has two ring-shaped cylinder block halves 1a, 1b with integrated cooling water circuits 2.
- the ring-shaped cylinder formed by the halves 1a, 1b four pistons a, b, c, d rotate, which are connected to a central piston carrier disk 3, which in turn is connected to a central output shaft 4.
- Sealing rings e are provided in order to create a seal against the escape of gas from inside the cylinder past the surfaces of the piston carrier disk 3.
- the output shaft 4 also carries two groups of control cams, the meaning of which will be explained later.
- the motor has a compression chamber 5 on the diametrically opposite sides in the outer wall of the cylinder, each of which has a pressure valve 5a and a control valve 5b.
- two diametrically opposed partition walls 7 are provided, each of which is displaceable between a position within the cylinder and a position in a housing 6 and is biased towards the cylinder space by means of a spring 7a.
- two collecting containers 8 are provided, each of which has a pressure valve 8a.
- the various cam disks 4a, 4b, 4c serve the various valves 5b, 9, 10 and the partitions 7 to control.
- the control of valves by means of cam disks is known per se, so that further details are not shown.
- an additional sealing ring e is provided, which is one between the cylinder block halves 1a, 1b on the radially outer side of the cylinder Sealing creates.
- the partitions 7 must be regularly withdrawn into their housing 6 and moved into their position in the cylinder space so that the pistons a , b, c, d can go through.
- a certain amount of compressed fuel-air mixture can enter the partition housing 6. This mixture then passes into the collecting chambers 8 connected to the interior of the partition housing 6 and is then introduced into the cylinder space again, when the pressure that builds up is sufficient to overcome the closing force of the valve 8a, through the inlet valve 9, in which case the inlet valve 9 supports the opening of the valve 8a by its suction effect.
- Step 2 The rotation of the pistons a and c and the simultaneous opening of the inlet valves 9 begin the first intake phase.
- the fuel-air mixture passes through the open inlet valves 9 into the chambers of the operating cylinder formed by the partition walls 7 in the cylinder space between the upper partition 7 according to FIG. 1 and the rear of the piston c, and between the lower one according to FIG. 1 Partition 7 and the back of the piston a.
- Step 3 The partitions 7 were briefly retracted into their housing 6 by the cams in question, and immediately after the passage of the pistons b and d the partitions 7 returned to their position in the cylinder, under the action of the springs 7a, so that the Operating cylinder is again divided into chambers.
- the second intake phase begins since the inlet valves 9 are still open.
- Pistons b and d now have two functions. On the front side they are supposed to compress the mixture previously drawn in by pistons a and c, and on the back side they simultaneously effect the second suction phase.
- Step 4 In the meantime, the partition walls 7 have been briefly withdrawn by means of a corresponding cam action in order to allow the passage of the pistons a and c, but they reenter the cylinder space immediately thereafter.
- the pistons b and d now compress the mixture enclosed between the partition 7 in question and the front of the piston b and d so strongly that the pressure valves 5a open, as a result of which the compressed mixture reaches the compression chambers 5.
- the rear sides of the pistons a and c effect the third suction phase.
- Step 5 The cam drive in turn briefly opens the partitions 7 to let the pistons b and d pass through. Immediately after the passage of the pistons b and d, the partitions 7 return to their position in the cylinder space.
- the control valves 5b of the compression chambers 5 are opened immediately thereafter.
- the previously compressed mixture enters the space between the rear of the pistons b and d and the relevant partition 7.
- the ignition and combustion of the mixture then takes place immediately afterwards via the spark plugs 11.
- the resulting flow velocities significantly increase the combustion speed and thus contribute to a short combustion duration and a low tendency to knock.
- the high gas pressure resulting from the explosion or combustion drives the pistons d and b forward, the inlet valves 9 being closed simultaneously by the cam drive.
- Step 6 Now the fuel mixture located in the cylinder chamber is compressed on the front of pistons a and c, and the processes are repeated as in step 5, and there is a second explosion or combustion. At the same time, the front sides of pistons d and b compress the fuel from the third intake phase. The exhaust gases from the first explosion phase are located in the spaces between the rear sides of pistons b and d and the front sides of pistons a and c, as can be seen from the detail view 6.
- Step 7 Shortly before the start of the third explosion phase, the outlet valves 10 open so that the discharge from the first explosion phase can flow out. The front sides of the pistons a and c cause the combustion gases to be pushed out. Then the partitions 7 are briefly withdrawn again so that the pistons a and c in question can pass through. After the return of the partitions 7 into their position in the cylinder space, the third explosion phase takes place. By moving the pistons further, the exhaust gases from the second explosion phase are now released from the operating cylinder, whereby they are pushed out through the front sides of the pistons d and b.
- Step 8 The front sides now push the exhaust gases out of the third explosion phase after the pistons b and d were able to move through this point by briefly retracting the partitions 7. After the exhaust gases have been pushed out, the partitions 7 are again briefly withdrawn in order to let the pistons a and c pass through. By the subsequent movement of the partitions 7 into their position in the cylinder space and through When the inlet valves 9 are opened, the second operating cycle is initiated, the outlet valves 11 of course having been closed beforehand.
- the engine according to the invention can be used in all fields in which conventional internal combustion engines are used.
- control of the partitions 7 and the various valves is described by means of cams and springs, the control can also be carried out electromechanically or pneumatically, in which case the operational safety is further increased by a usable electronic control and regulating system. In addition, there is a further saving on mechanical components, which in turn contributes to a reduction in costs and an increase in the service life.
- Fig. 4 shows on an enlarged scale certain details of the design of the piston carrier disc 3, one of the pistons, namely the piston a, is shown.
- the piston a is shown on a larger scale, in particular insofar as it relates to its extent in the circumferential direction of the carrier disk 3.
- the length of the piston a in the circumferential direction corresponds to that length or dimension which is shown in FIG. 1a.
- the enlarged scale for the representation of the piston a was chosen in order to be able to show more clearly the sealing means with which a seal is created between the piston a and the inner surface of the cylinder space.
- the seal has a preferably continuous sealing strip 12 which is arranged in a continuous helical groove which is formed in the outer surface of the piston a.
- the sealing strip 12 consists, for example, of metal, preferably of steel.
- the partition walls 6 are arranged or inserted in an appropriate recess in the cylinder block halves 1a, 1b. If necessary, a suitable sealing device can be used to provide a seal between the outer surface of the housing 6 and the opposite surfaces of the recess, which is formed in the cylinder block halves la, 1b.
- each dividing wall 7 is formed from two separate half-disks.
- Each half disk is then arranged in a side of the cylinder Housing added, in which case the two housings of the two half disks face each other.
- the design is then such that both half disks are moved simultaneously either into a position in the cylinder or into a position outside the cylinder and in the relevant housing.
- the free edges of the two half disks touch in their position in the cylinder.
- each cylinder block half 1a, 1b comprises half of a housing through which the output shaft 4 passes and which is filled with lubricating oil.
- the piston carrier disk 3 has a number of through holes in its region which lies in the oil housing, through which a certain circulation of the oil is caused.
- the cam device on the output shaft 4 is also arranged within the oil-filled housing.
- the ring-shaped cylinder has the shape of a circular toroid, which means that the interior of the cylinder has a circular cross section. Accordingly, the pistons a, b, c, d also have a circular cross section.

Description
The invention relates to an internal combustion satellite engine with rotating pistons.
According to the prior art, thermal energy is converted into kinetic energy in internal combustion engines. By burning a fuel inside a cylinder, the thermal explosion pressure acts on a piston, which, connected to a connecting rod crank system, causes the rotation of a drive shaft.
The internal combustion engines known to date for practical use are:
A) die oszillierenden Kolben-Verbrennungsmotoren wie
- 1. Otto-Motor (Nikolaus Otto, 1832-1891) und dessen Alternativen,
- 2. Diesel-Motor (Rudolph Diesel, 1858-1913) und dessen Alternativen,
- 1. Otto engine (Nikolaus Otto, 1832-1891) and its alternatives,
- 2. Diesel engine (Rudolph Diesel, 1858-1913) and its alternatives,
B) die Rotationskolbenmotoren
- - Wankel-Motor, NSU (Felix Wankel, erste Vorstellung 1960) und dessen Alternativkonstruktionen.
- - Wankel engine, NSU (Felix Wankel, first performance 1960) and its alternative designs.
The motors mentioned under A) above have significant disadvantages which limit the maximum power yield to 25 to 30%, although the motor industry is currently endeavoring worldwide to improve the efficiency.
- a) the fact that two complete revolutions of the drive shaft are necessary to achieve the required operating cycle of four cycles (suction, compression, explosion, ejection). This means that the work of just one explosion is available for two revolutions and the torque is accordingly low,
- b) the awareness that the uniformity factor of the conventional four-stroke engine is low and that the mechanical efficiency is further reduced by the valve drive,
- c) the large thermal losses in relation to the power of the engine,
- d) the complexity of the overall engine design and the associated relatively high manufacturing costs due to the large number of moving parts, the irregular up and down movement of the pistons, the way in which the crankshaft is designed and the required cylinder head construction.
- 1) the eccentric bearing of the piston on the drive shaft,
- 2) the power transmission of the rotary piston by means of gear wheels to the drive shaft and the associated friction losses and noises,
- 3) the non-uniformity of the operating chamber, which affects the functioning of the engine,
- 4) due to the triangular shape of the rotary piston, there are leakage problems which cause the motor to deteriorate,
- 5) large fuel-air-mixture losses occur due to the geometry of the operating chamber,
- 6) The torque is relatively larger than in the oscillating piston engines, but the principle can no longer be increased significantly.
An engine according to the invention has a single ring-shaped cylinder, in which four symmetrically arranged pistons rotate, which are connected directly to an output shaft (satellite principle). The rotation of the output shaft is effected directly by the pistons, which ensures ideal uniformity.
An engine according to the invention does not require a cylinder head and its volume is comparatively small.

As shown, the engine has two ring-shaped cylinder block halves 1a, 1b with integrated

The various cam disks 4a, 4b, 4c serve the
As can be seen from FIG. 1b, in addition to the sealing rings e, which create a seal between the cylinder block halves 1a, 1b and the central
As can be seen from an examination of the drawing, in order that the pistons a, b, c, d can rotate in the annular cylinder space, the
- Step 1 shows a random starting position of the pistons a, b, c, d in the idle state. The engine is started by a conventional starting device which rotates the
output shaft 4 clockwise as shown in FIG. 3.
The rotation of the pistons a and c and the simultaneous opening of the
Step 3: The
Step 4: In the meantime, the
Step 5: The cam drive in turn briefly opens the
Step 6: Now the fuel mixture located in the cylinder chamber is compressed on the front of pistons a and c, and the processes are repeated as in
Step 7: Shortly before the start of the third explosion phase, the
Step 8: The front sides now push the exhaust gases out of the third explosion phase after the pistons b and d were able to move through this point by briefly retracting the
- Eight times the torque per four-stroke operating cycle is obtained compared to the torque that is achieved with conventional reciprocating piston engines. Compared to conventional rotary piston engines, four times the torque per four-stroke operating cycle is achieved.
Obtained as a result of the symmetrical piston arrangement with direct drive of the shaft through optimal uniformity. Further advantages are the elimination of the crankshaft, the connecting rods etc. and the cylinder head, a reduction in fuel consumption, a reduction in construction costs, a reduction in space requirements, a reduction in environmental pollution, a simplification of the effort for maintenance and repair, and in extending the life of the engine.
The engine according to the invention can be used in all fields in which conventional internal combustion engines are used.
Although the control of the
Fig. 4 shows on an enlarged scale certain details of the design of the
As can be seen, the seal has a preferably
As can further be seen from FIG. 2, the
It should also be noted that a modified embodiment, not shown, can be used for the dividing
Furthermore, it is to be understood that, as can be seen in particular from FIG. 1b, each cylinder block half 1a, 1b comprises half of a housing through which the
As can be seen in particular from the drawing, the ring-shaped cylinder has the shape of a circular toroid, which means that the interior of the cylinder has a circular cross section. Accordingly, the pistons a, b, c, d also have a circular cross section.
Although the invention has been described above with reference to a gasoline engine, it should be understood that an engine according to the invention can also operate on the diesel principle. It is then only necessary to replace the spark plugs 11 with injection valves.
