Claims (12)

1. A recording device for a route log, said device being capable of coming automatically Into action as soon as the vehicle is put into operation, the device comprising recording means (1) for obtaining a record trace on a chart disk, and multi-position guide cam (5) co-operating with the recording means (1) in such a manner as to obtain a trace capable of distinguishing different types of vehicle use, characterized in that the recording device includes additional guide means (18) capable of taking the place of the multi-position guide cam (5) regardless of which one of said positions with guide cam is in, together with actuator means (19) controlled by the vehicle speedometer drive (27, 28) capable of automatically causing said substitution to take place as soon as the vehicle is in operation to cause the recording means (1) to produce a trace corresponding to a driving position.
2. A recording device according to claim 1, characterized in that the additional guide means are essentially constituted by an additional cam (18) which is coaxial with the multi-position cam (5) and which has an inside radius such that it is capable of being placed over said multi-position cam in order to substitute itself automatically therefor in the driving position.
3. A recording device according to claim 2, characterized in that the additional cam (18) comprises a support ring (20) capable of sliding along the shaft (11) on which the multi-position cam is mounted, and a side bar (21) having a meniscus-shaped cross-section, said bar co-operating automatically with the recording means (1) in the driving position in order to obtain a trace whose thickness is greater than the thickness of the traces obtained in any of the positions of the multi-position cam.
4. A recording device according to anyone of claims 2 and 3, characterized in that the multiposi- tion cam (5) and the additional cam (18) are constrained to rotate together.
5. A recording device according to anyone of claims 2 to 4, characterized in that the multiposi- tion cam (5) and the additional cam (18) are subjected to the action of spring (26) tending to urge them away from each other.
6. A recording device according to anyone of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the actuator means (19) for automatically substituting the additional guide means in place of the multi-position guide cam essentially comprise a drum (31) caused to rotate by the vehicle speedometer drive, and a lever (34) having one end co-operating with said drum and having its other end co-operating with said additional guide means (18) in such a manner as to cause said substitution to take place as soon as the vehicle speed exceeds a predetermined threshold.
7. A recording device according to claim 6, characterized in that the drum (31) has a circular track against which the associated end of the lever (34) is pressed, said track being interrupted by a notch having a sloping edge (33) capable of co-operating with said lever end when the vehicle speed changes from zero to the predetermined speed threshold.
8. A recording device according to anyone of claims 6 and 7, characterized in that the drum (31) supports the shaft of the tachometer indicator pointer.
9. A recording device according to anyone of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that if further includes means enabling the automatic substitution to the driving position to take place suddenly as soon as a very low threshold speed is exceeded, e. g. 0.1 km/h.
10. A recording device according to claim 9, characterized in that said means essentially comprise a control system for moving the vehicle speedometer output through a small angle as soon as the threshold speed is exceeded, said small angle being sufficient to ensure that the automatic substitution takes place.
11. A recording device according to anyone of claims 1 to 10, characterized in that two sets of recording means, guide means and actuator means are provided for recording on two chart disks, thereby distinguishing between vehicle use by two different drivers, the vehicle speedometer drive (27, 28) controlling actuator means for automatic substitution of additional guide means in place of the guide cam in both drive chains.
12. A recording device according to anyone of claims 6 to 10, and to claim 11, characterized in that the control drum (31) is common to both drive chains, whereas respective levers, guiding means and recording means are provided.
