Description

The invention relates to hockey sticks and more particularly field or indoor hockey.

Patent FR-A-2 521 434 describes hockey sticks consisting of a rectilinear handle and a head, the latter itself being formed by a so-called contiguous upper part extending the handle, a bent intermediate part and a part terminal with an impact zone. The top and bottom, front and back, left and right of a stick, which will be mentioned in this brief, are concepts for the player himself when he holds in his hands the said butt inclined in front of him in the normal position of play at the start, the bent part of the head resting on the ground and the terminal part thereof rising in the direction of the sky. Thus this end part which moves away from the axis of the handle is called the front of the stick. When you hang a field hockey stick by the free end of its handle (the handle), the head being at the bottom, the axis of the handle tilts back i.e. opposite side to that of the terminal part of the head. In this position, the center of gravity is located outside the axis of the handle, in a vertical plane perpendicular to the percussion surface.

During the game, the player holds the stick by the handle, the head being down and directed away from him, and to stop or hit a ball he moves the said head close to the ground. To do this, the player more or less inclines his stick, the handle then having a direction opposite to that which he tends to take when it is suspended: which requires an additional effort to overcome on the one hand, this natural tendency, and on the other hand, the torsional torque generated by the impact of the ball on the percussion surface, torque all the greater the greater the distance from the point of impact to the axis passing through the center of gravity.

An essential feature of the field or indoor hockey game is to use only the left side of the head, the use of the right side being prohibited. During the game, to advance and guide his ball, according to the so-called "drible technique and to use only the authorized face, the player is obliged to rotate the head of his stick alternately and successively in one direction and in the other, thus pointing the front of said head either towards the sky or towards the ground. This alternative overturning movement which acts on a moving ball is fundamental to the game of field or indoor hockey and thus differentiates it from other sports such as ice hockey, roller hockey, or golf.

The main object of the invention is to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and to facilitate the conditions of the game as well as its speed.

The hockey stick (field or indoor) according to the invention consists of a handle and a head comprising a part contiguous to the handle, an intermediate part and a terminal part, the latter two parts being curved towards the front and in which the percussion center is located, this stock being characterized in that the contiguous part of the head is deflected rearward so that the axis of the handle passes substantially through the ideal percussion center of the head . In such a stick the axis of the handle also passes approximately through the center of gravity when the stick is suspended by the free end of the handle.

To better understand the invention, an exemplary embodiment is given below with reference to the appended drawings in which:
  • Fig. 1 is a side view of a field hockey stick,
  • Fig. 2 is a view of the face of the same hockey stick,
  • Fig. 3, 4, 5 are sections at different levels.

The drawings clearly show the shape of the balanced stock according to the invention. From top to bottom, there is the handle 2 of approximately circular section, then the body 3 of the handle 1 which offers a flat surface 4 more and more pronounced in the plane formed by said handle 1 and the head 6. This flat surface 4 is located on the player's left side. The entire flat part 4 can be used during the game, and the ideal point of impact 11 is located on this flat surface 4 in the lower region of the head, about half the height of said lower region. The stock has a slight arch or arrow visible in Fig. 1 and the maximum point of which is in 5 of the lower third of the said butt. Immediately following the handle 1 there is the contiguous part 7 of the head 6 which has a rearward deflection 13, in the plane perpendicular to the camber 5, as is clearly seen in FIGS. 1 and 2. The plate 4 continues on the head 6. The intermediate part 8 is strongly curved forward 12 and is extended by the end part 9 of the head 6, which can be rounded symmetrically with respect to the axis 10 of the neck 1. The ideal point of impact 11 tends to merge with the percussion center, which is also located in the lowest zone of the range or flat 4 and in the plane of the axis 10.

The backward deflection of the adjoining part 7 with respect to the axis 10 of the handle 1 (see Fig. 2) is at least equal to half the width of the bottom. of this handle 1 is about three centimeters.

It is possible to make sticks with a more pronounced deviation, for example six centimeters or more for certain particular types of sticks.

Selon l'invention l'ensemble de la crosse est particulièrement bien équilibrée, l'axe 10 du manche 1 passe approximativement par le point d'impact idéal 11 et le centre de gravité 14.According to the invention, the whole stock is particularly well balanced, the axis 10 of the handle 1 passes approximately through the ideal point of impact 11 and the center of gravity 14.

This stock can be made in any material, in particular wood, plastic, metal, solid or laminated materials.
