- the present invention relates to the ignition by short circuit of an arc for a welding or cutting torch, more particularly plasma cutting. It relates firstly to a welding or cutting torch of the kind comprising in a torch body an electrode coaxially disposed inside a metal nozzle for guiding a gas comprising an orifice aligned with said electrode, with, in the torch body, a mutual axial displacement assembly of the electrode and of the nozzle between a position of mutual contact and a position of maximum spacing which corresponds to the normal spacing in operation, the latter position being taken under action elastic means.
- the ignition of the plasma torches is carried out by the device of high frequency discharges which are established in the gas in the course of circulation between the electrode and the nozzle.

- This nozzle 5 is mounted by its cylindrical external face 7 sliding on an internal cylindrical surface 8 of a nozzle holder 9 screwed at 10 onto the torch body 1, the cylindrical surface 8 ends with an internal shoulder 11 against which abuts a projecting part towards the outside laughing 12 of the nozzle.
- This part 12 when it bears against the stop 11 determines the correct axial spacing of the nozzle 5 relative to the electrode 2 during the cutting operation.
