Description
The invention relates to a paper carrier suitable for the one-sided reception of printing and / or lacquer layers. The paper backing is particularly suitable for holding decals or decals.
Decals or decals used for decorating objects made of ceramic, porcelain, glass; Enamel, metal or plastic are used, consisting essentially of a carrier made of water-permeable paper with a barrier and separation layer, on which a removable, holding film is applied from a covering paint mask containing the decor image. Resins made from acrylate and / or methacrylate polymers are generally used for imaging. The paint mask also serves to stiffen the more or less strong color layers of the decor image, so that it can be easily transferred to the object to be decorated. Varnishes made of acrylate and / or methacrylate polymers are preferably used in those cases in which the transferred transfer or transfer picture is later baked, since these decompose quickly during the baking and do not pass through a liquid state. This avoids changing or decaying the decor image.
It has now been shown that a paint mask made of the resins described on the paper backing, 'especially if the paint mask has to cover a relatively thick, relief-like color layer, e.g. B. under pressure, tends to undesirable sticking. This areal or, in the case of a few support points, almost point-by-point adhesion of the paint mask to the respective rear of the stacked sheet lying above it is caused both by its own weight and by solvent residues or plasticizer additives retained by temperature and air humidity.
To avoid the printed and / or lacquered sheets sticking together, waxed tissue paper has already been placed between the individual sheets. Attempts have also been made to avoid the disadvantageous adhesion to the adjacent sheets by coating the printing and / or lacquer layer with wax-like products. Here, however, there is the disadvantage that each individual sheet has to be coated. In addition, this did not completely eliminate the adhesive effect. The method of tissue paper liner, which provides usable images even after long storage, is very complex and requires several additional work steps, such as exact insertion and removal of the tissue paper, which is then no longer needed. In addition, the sheets must be divided up according to the decor images before processing, and decals that are superfluous must be stored again without intermediate tissue paper. If they are to be used later, they are mostly glued together and unusable.
It is also known (DE-OS 2551 860. corresponding to US Pat. No. 4,049,860) to provide a paper backing for decals with a water-permeable cover layer containing polysiloxane and polyalkylene glycol wax on the back. A disadvantage of this, however, is that the penetration rate for water is slowed down by the covering layer, as a result of which the release of the decorative image is delayed by the separating layer going into solution. This is particularly disadvantageous if the image transfer process is automated, the contact time of the decal or deposition image with water and the dwell time before the image transfer having to run at the specified time interval. This cover layer can also increase the sliding effect of the back of the paper in such a way that transport problems can arise, especially in screen printing machines. After the printing station, the sheets are fed to the dryer at an increasing angle on conveyor belts. Due to the reduced adhesion, they can slide on the belts in an uncontrolled manner and thus cause disadvantageous machine stops.
It was therefore an object of the invention to provide a paper carrier for receiving printing and / or lacquer layers on one side, which has a satisfactory oleophobia on the back compared to the printing and / or lacquer layers of the next sheet in the stack, which prevents sticking, a good one Has liability for processing documents, with the water absorbency of the paper being as undiminished as possible.
This object is achieved by a paper support of the type mentioned at the outset in that it comprises a paper which is free from aluminum ions and which has a top coat of fluoroalkylphosphate on the back. In a preferred embodiment, the paper support is free from aluminum sulfate and has a top coat of perfluoroalkyl phosphate on the back.
This ensures that the back of the paper backing is equipped so that it has a water penetration rate that is almost the same as that of untreated paper, but at the same time it has experienced an increase in the oleophobic property that the sticking together with the paper backing produced by the top coat according to the invention Preventing decal or transfer pictures in the stack. Overall, good shelf life is achieved and work in automatic machines is made possible.
The paper support according to the invention is shown schematically in the accompanying figure. Here, position 1 means the paper carrier, which is provided with a
According to the invention, the paper carrier 1 is free of aluminum ions. This can be achieved by using paper that is free of aluminum ions, such as that caused by alum, which is preferred. In the event that the paper support should nevertheless contain aluminum ions, care must be taken to ensure that the aluminum ions are bound by complex formation, such as, for example, chelation, in such a way that they cannot react during washing.
It has been shown that alum amounts of only about 0.1%, based on absolutely dry fiber, have a considerable influence on the absorbency of the paper without the oleophobia of the paper being more pronounced. According to the invention, care must also be taken to ensure that small quantities cannot penetrate through the process water with residual alum content or that alum is introduced through the proportionate use of alum-containing waste.
The commercially available products such as SCOTCHBAN R from 3M, USA, or ZONYL R from du Pont, USA, can be used as fluoroalkyl phosphates. They represent fluorinated alkyl esters of orthophosphoric acid or of alkali phosphates. Perfluoroalkyl phosphate esters, such as perfluorinated mono- or dialkyl phosphate esters, are preferably used.
The top coat is applied to the back of the paper carrier from an aqueous solution. Depending on the running speed of the paper carrier web, solutions of fluoroalkyl phosphate in concentrations of below 2, preferably from 0.3 to 1.0 percent by weight are suitable. In the dried state, the top coat is about 0.05 to about 0.5 g / m 2 . Mixtures of water and alcohol, in particular isopropanol, in ratios between 1: 9 and 9: 1 are used as solvents. Mixtures with up to 25 percent by weight of isopropanol are preferably used.
It has been shown that the application of the aqueous solution is advantageously improved if the preparation solution is thickened somewhat in order to reduce the penetration of the fluoroalkyl phosphates into the absorbent paper carrier. Suitable thickeners are alginates, polyvinyl alcohol, carboxymethyl cellulose, gums or other high-molecular substances that have a strong thickening effect. Carboxyvinyl polymers, for example polyacrylates, are preferably used as thickeners. As a result, the concentration of fluoroalkyl phosphate according to the invention can be reduced to below 0.5 percent by weight, preferably to 0.3 percent by weight, without impairing the effect. The thickener is used in concentrations around 0.05 to 0.2, preferably from 0.08 to 0.1 percent by weight.
A paper carrier according to the invention is produced in a conventional manner, for example on a sheet former with a basis weight of 100 to 200 g / m 2 . The pulp is free of aluminum sulfate and can contain kaolin as a filler, in addition to suitable starch. The paper carrier thus produced and dried is provided on the front side with a
After each application and drying of
The printing and / or lacquer layers can then be applied to the separating layer 3 in the usual way.
The invention is further illustrated by the following examples.
- . Sample 1 had no top coat according to the invention, Sample 6 corresponded to a paper support according to
DE-OS 2 551 860 with a top coat made of polysiloxane and polyalkylene glycol wax.
In sample 7, only a 0.3% perfluoroalkyl phosphate solution was applied, which had been thickened with 0.1% polyacrylic acid. In this case, coating was carried out with a 40 anilox roller. Although considerably less active substance was applied due to the lower concentration and lower wet application, the test results do not differ from those of
A drop of water was then applied to the dried top coat, the rest of which was dabbed off with a cotton rag after 1 minute of exposure. The respective drop spread was measured and is included in Table 1 as the drop diameter.
Sample 1 shows the normal suction behavior of the paper free of aluminum ions.
- Sheets of paper according to samples 1 (I), 6 (11), 2 (111) and 7 (IV) of Example A were coated with a clear lacquer and dried, which is also otherwise used for printing and / or lacquer layers for the production of decals and represents a copolymer of acrylates and methacrylates. The streaking of the lacquer into the paper carrier was determined.
From this one can see an excellent barrier effect (oleophobicity) of the back coat according to the invention for the paper carrier (samples III and IV).
From this, too, it can be seen, as can be seen from the table, that samples III and IV with the top coat according to the invention have by far the best penetration resistance to oil components. Sample II shows only slightly improved behavior compared to untreated paper.
In a practical test, sheets printed with silk-screen printing and an overlying lacquer mask were stored for one week.
Die Stapel wurden zusätzlich mit 225 p/cm2 belastet.The piles were additionally loaded with 225 p / cm 2 .
The sheets 111 and IV from Table 3 treated according to the invention did not stick, while untreated sheets were blocked in such a way that the paper carrier split during the attempted separation.
