Abstract

A double-chamber aerosol container is constructed using two conventional aerosol receptacles each having a valve at one end. A first of the receptacles is an outer receptacle which contains one of the components of the product to be dispensed. The other of the receptacles is smaller and is contained within the outer receptacle with its valve facing the bottom of the outer receptacle. The inner receptacle contains a propellent gas and a second component of the product to be dispensed. The outer container has an inwardly displaceable closing plug in its bottom which, when displaced inwardly opens the valve in the inner receptacle to discharge the contents of the inner receptacle into the outer receptacle. A sealing gasket surrounding the closing plug permits it to be displaced inwardly while maintaining the sealed condition of the container.

Description

The present invention relates to a bicameral aerosol packaging.

A known package consists of two conventional commercial aerosol containers, one of these containers called an external container is provided at its upper part with a distribution valve of conventional type, said external container serving as a container for a component of the product to be pack as well as a second aerosol container of conventional type called internal container, said internal container being equipped with a transfer valve of conventional type and serving as a propellant container as well as another component of the product to be packaged.

The container called the external container is provided in its lower part, that is to say the bottom, with a system called obturator designed so that a pressure exerted from the outside on said obturator comes to open the valve of the container called internal container and thus allows the content of said internal container to pour into the container called external container and mix with the content of said external container.

So-called bicameral packaging has a very wide field of use. Their use is justified in all cases or for various reasons, a product is in the form of two components which must not be brought into contact and mixed until the time of use such as, for example, hair dye products , two-component adhesives, two-component foams, quick-drying, impact-resistant lacquer paints, and the like.

Other bicameral packaging systems are currently known, such as the system in document DE-A-2916699 for which the mixing of the various components is done through a dispensing and mixing valve system complicated in its production. According to another invention described in document DE-A-3116282, two aerosol cans are mounted one on top of the other and connected by a system of transfer valves. In this case, mixing takes place in the upper housing after the two housings are brought together. The disadvantage of this invention resides in the fact that the upper housing must include another valve known as a distribution valve; the total number of valves is therefore three in this case. In addition, the correct positioning of the two boxes requires an external sleeve, which makes this system complicated and expensive.

Ledit récipient interne est centré dans le récipient externe, et repose sur la partie supérieure d'un bouchon de fermeture qui est monté à force à travers une ouverture ménagée dans le fond du récipient externe, ledit bouchon pouvant être enfoncé d'une longueur supplémentaire l'amenant dans une position telle que sa partie supérieure exerce une pression sur le contenu du récipient interne, ledit récipient interne étant maintenu en butée contre une entretoise située dans le récipient externe, si bien que la pression exercée sur le bouchon de fermeture entraîne l'ouverture du bouchon du récipient interne et provoque ainsi le mélange des différents composants.EP-A-42128 describes a bicameral aerosol packaging for the packaging of products with several components which should not come into contact and be mixed only at the time of use, said packaging consisting of an aerosol container of the usual type serving as a container external and fitted with a conventional distribution valve, said container containing one of the components of the final product as well as a second aerosol container of the usual type serving as an internal container and containing the other component of the final product, said internal container being fitted with a plug. Said internal container is centered in the external container, and rests on the upper part of a closure plug which is forced-fitted through an opening in the bottom of the external container, said plug being able to be inserted by an additional length l bringing it into a position such that its upper part exerts pressure on the content of the internal container, said internal container being held in abutment against a spacer located in the external container, so that the pressure exerted on the closure cap causes the opening the cap of the internal container and thus causing the various components to mix.

The object of the present invention is to produce a so-called bicameral system for products with several components which must only be mixed at the time of use, said system having to be of simple construction and use and therefore little expensive, while guaranteeing against unintentional manipulation causing the mixing of the various components at an unwanted moment.

The present invention provides a bicameral aerosol packaging for the packaging of products with several components which should not come into contact and be mixed only at the time of use, said packaging consisting of an aerosol container of the usual type serving as an external container and provided with a conventional type dispensing valve, said container containing one of the components of the final product as well as a second aerosol container of the usual type serving as an internal container and containing another component of the final product, said internal container is centered in the external container, and rests on the upper part of a closure cap which is forced-fitted through an opening in the bottom of the external container, said cap being able to be inserted by an additional length bringing it into a position such that its upper part exerts pressure on the content of the internal container, said internal container being held in abutment against a spacer e located in the outer container, so that the pressure exerted on the closure cap causes the valve of the inner container to open and thus causes the various components to be mixed, characterized in that the inner container also contains a gas propellant, is fitted with a stem valve, is positioned upside down in the external container and rests by the stem of its valve on the upper part of the closure cap.

The present invention combines the various aforementioned advantages in that the system which it describes requires for its realization, the use of two usual aerosol containers, each container being equipped with only one valve of conventional type. The first container called internal container of smaller size than the container called external container is equipped with a conventional valve of the male valve type, and, is introduced into the container called external container, the valve is its rod on the side of the bottom of the housing said external external housing being equipped at its upper part with a distribution valve of the conventional type.

The internal container serves as a container for the propellant gas and for one of the components of the product, said component having to be mixed only at the time of use with the other component contained in the external container.

When needed, the various components are mixed in the external container after opening the valve in the internal container.

Said opening being obtained by driving in the part called the closure plug of the system called shutter mounted in the bottom of the external container. Since at the time of use, in order to ensure the mixing of the various components, the part called the closure plug must be pressed in, this guarantees against inadvertent mixing. At the same time, it is guaranteed against a false manipulation of the dispensing valve because no product can leave before the mixture of the different components has been achieved by following the action on the part called the closure cap.

Since the mixture of the various components is obtained only by the driving action of the single part called the closure cap, and the distribution of the product by the single action on the single distribution valve, the present invention guarantees a great job security. In addition, since before the final mixing, only the internal container contains propellant gas, it follows that only said internal container is subjected to a pressure from said propellant gas, while the external container is not subjected at no pressure.

As a result, the security of this bicameral packaging system is greatly increased.

The present invention will be better understood on reading the detailed description which follows of an aerosol according to the invention described by way of nonlimiting example and, on examining the appended drawing which is a longitudinal section.

The bicameral packaging in question in this patent consists of a conventional aerosol packaging 1 commercial called external container which is equipped with a common valve without dip tube, said valve serving as a dispensing valve.

In the bottom of the container 1 is formed an opening 3 in which is fitted from below an annular sealing sleeve 4, made of plastic or elastomer. In order to ensure the good behavior of said cuff 4, it has a circular groove 5 at the opening 3 and a shoulder 6 which presses strongly against the bottom of the external container 1 after said cuff 4 has been pressed under the effect of a pressure in the opening 3. The internal wall of the cuff 4 has an annular flange 7. A closure cap 8 is pressed under the action of pressure through this cuff 4. The closure cap 8 has two grooves 9 and 10, one above the other, in which the flange 7 is successively adjusted. Before filling the various components, the closure cap 8 is pressed into the cuff 4 so that the collar 7 comes to be positioned in the upper groove 9 and remains in this position until the time of use. When using the bicameral packaging, the closure cap 8 is pressed through the sealing sleeve 4 under the effect of pressure in the direction of the external container 1 until the groove 10 is positioned in the flange 7. In this position of the closure plug 8, the upper part 11 of said plug pushes in the rod 12 of the male valve with which the internal container 13 is fitted, said container containing the propellant and one components of the product. The collar 7 is located in the part of the cuff 4 which is inside the external container 1, which improves the seal when the propellant has been discharged from the internal container 13.

The pushing action of the rod 12 of the valve of the internal container 13 causes the opening of said valve allowing the contents of the container 13 to flow under the action of the propellant gas into the external housing 1 and to ensure thus the mixture of the various components.

In order to ensure the opening of the valve of the internal box 13 under the effect of the depression of the closure cap 8, a spacer made of plastic or elastomer is attached to the lower part of the valve 2 of the external container 1, the dimensions of said spacer being calculated in such a way that when the rod 12 of the valve of the internal container 13 is pressed in, the bottom of said internal container comes into abutment and maintains against said spacer 14.

In order to ensure the positioning and centering of the internal container 13, said container 13 being introduced upside down through the upper opening of the external container 1 before mounting the distribution valve 2 on said external container 1 and in order to ensure the centering of the rod 12 on the contact surface 11 of the closure plug 8,. an expandable and elastic ring 15 made of plastic material, for example a ring provided with corrugations in the radial direction, and making no obstacle to the passage of gas, is introduced into the external housing 1, said ring 15 moving apart after its introduction into the external container 1 and ensuring the centering of the internal container 13.
