Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing a decoration on a glass for a measuring instrument, in particular a wristwatch, the decoration having a different reflectivity than the surface surrounding the decoration and to a decoration produced by this method.
Such a process is described in FR-A-2 230 005, in which a layer with a higher refractive index and thus with a greater reflectivity than the glass is evaporated in order to give the glass a gem-like appearance.
Die US-A-3 785 143 beschreibt das direkte Aufbringen von Fenstern aus reflexvermindernden Schichten auf mindestens eine Seite eines Uhrenglases an den Stellen der darunterliegenden Stundenzeichen oder die Beschichtung eines Teiles des Uhrenglases, um Teile unterschiedlichen Reflexionsvermögens zu erhalten.US-A-3 785 143 describes the direct application of windows made of anti-reflective layers to at least one side of a watch glass at the locations of the hour signs underneath or the coating of a part of the watch glass in order to obtain parts of different reflectivities.
Finally, FR-A-1 284 695 describes a method in which interference layers are vapor-deposited on at least one side of a glass and locations are etched away in order to achieve a gradation on a scale. In a relatively complex process, reflex-reducing and absorbing layers are first vapor-deposited and then etched off in such a way that the gradation lines for rulers are created.
Compared to the previously known methods, the object of the present invention is to use a simple method to produce an unobtrusive decoration, for example fine characters which are not visible in every position of the glass. A decor that can be achieved with such a method is defined in claim 6. This object is achieved with the method according to claim 1.
The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments. In addition to the prior art cited above, clocks and in particular dash glasses, for example on motor vehicles and airplanes, are known to have an anti-reflective layer for the purpose of facilitating reading of the instruments, but the entire glass is always provided with an even, anti-reflective layer. With the method according to the invention, it is possible to apply inconspicuous decorations which are difficult to recognize in a vertical plan view, but are easily recognizable in an oblique plan view and which do not disturb the appearance of the dial underneath in a vertical plan view. If a light-sensitive layer and a projection of the character onto it by means of light optics are used for the design of the character, it is possible to apply very small characters which are difficult to see by the eye and which are not recognizable when viewed vertically. This makes it possible to use such signs to identify a specific manufacturer or a specific model and thus to prevent counterfeiting. Since the application of such small characters with a different reflectivity than the environment is much more complex than scratching away the trademarks of watch parts or stamping wrong trademarks on watch parts or the like, it is very difficult for a counterfeiter to produce such labels.
It is possible to first apply a layer with an anti-reflective coating to the entire glass, to apply the shapes of the decor and to etch out the decor or to form the decor from the anti-reflective layer and to etch out the other areas. It is also possible to produce both the decor and the surroundings from layers with different refractive indices, of course only partially.
The layers with the different refractive indices are evaporated in vacuo by a known method, it being possible for these layers to be applied to both sides of the glass. These decorative layers can also be combined with opaque, conventional decorative layers made of metal, metal oxide or other colors. In this case, other known processes for designing the decorations can be used for simpler geometric shapes, for example the transfer printing process or the screen printing process.
