A chain according to claim 1 characterised in that each of the two further strip-shaped cardboard blanks (18) comprises two halves (18a, 18b) which are respectively associated with a parallelepipedic member (1 or 5; 8 or 4) and which in the longitudinal direction of the cardboard blank (18) respectively form four successive equal side walls (a, b, c, d or a', b', c', d') of the parallelepipedic member and whose and side walls (a, a') which are central with respect to the strip are connected together adjacently transversely with respect to the strip and by way of a hinge-like connecting Iccation (15; 16) which is disposed on a longitudinal axis (18') of the cardbcard blank (18).

A chain according to one of the preceding claims characterised in that, in one of the possible overall rectangular body shapes of the chain of parallelepipedic members, the cover walls (D1 to D8) of all eight parallelepipedic members (1 to 8) are in juxtaposed relationship at the top side of the chain in a common cover plane.
6. A chain according to one of the preceding claims characterised in that the hinge-like connecting locations (9 to 16) comprise additional wall strip portions (22) of the cardboard material, of a width approximately corresponding to from three to five times the wall thickness thereof, and which are connected on both sides to the associated portions by way of a respective fold line which at the same time forms the adjacent side edge (for example 20, 21) thereof, and further characterised in that the additional wall strip portions (22) are interrupted by one or two slots (23) and the connecting strip portions (22a, 22b) which are formed on both sides of each slot (23) are about half as long as the slot (23), in the longitudinal direction of the wall strip portions (22).
7. A chain according to claim 6 characterised in that the slots (23) are of a width which is about two to three times the width of the wall strip portions (22).
