Description

The invention relates to an ink ribbon cassette that can be placed on the carriage of a printing unit and has a soaking device for the ink ribbon, in which the ink liquid that can be filled into a container can be fed to a wettable roller over which the ink ribbon is guided and that is rotated by the movement of the ink ribbon.

Such an ink ribbon cassette is known from EP-A-0 031 854. An ink reservoir is arranged above each of the two ink ribbon spools, which are spaced apart from one another, so that the ink ribbon is impregnated with ink liquid in both transport directions of the ink ribbon in front of the printing area. The color memories are made of felt and are separated from the rest of the cassette housing. The ribbon is guided over a roll with a hard surface between the bobbin and the writing area. This role is connected to the assigned color memory via an angled part. The roller is rotated by the moving ribbon so that the roller surface is constantly wetted with ink. The radial boundary surfaces of the roller are provided with ring-shaped recesses as a flow barrier so that excess ink does not escape through the bearings of the roller axis.

The disadvantage is that even when the ribbon is not moving, ink can roll due to its own weight. For this reason, special precautions must be taken to avoid over-enriching the ink reservoir with ink liquid. Also, such ribbon cartridges cannot be stored temporarily, since ink can also leak out.

The invention has for its object to provide an ink ribbon cassette with a soaking device, in which ink can only be removed from the ink reservoir during the movement of the print head provided with the ink ribbon cassette and which is simple in construction.

This object is achieved in that the container has an inwardly projecting, substantially transverse to the slide movement, lying threshold, in the uppermost part of a sampling tube that the other end of the sampling tube touches the role, that the role is designed as an absorbent role and that the liquid level is at rest below the uppermost part of the threshold.

The invention has the advantage that ink is only supplied to the sponge roller and thus to the ink ribbon when the liquid level is moved and spills over the threshold. With a relatively quietly moving printhead, this will be the case at least when the printhead changes its direction of movement, that is to say at the beginning and end of a writing line. Whether color liquid also spills over the threshold during a direction of movement of the printer depends on the one hand on the movement vibrations and on the other hand on the height of the threshold relative to the liquid level. In any case, the supply of the color liquid is metered by the invention.

In order to ensure that colored liquid also penetrates into the sampling tube and is not washed away through its opening, the space above the threshold and thus above the opening of the sampling tube is narrowed. This is achieved according to a further embodiment of the invention in that two cavities are formed within the container, the cross sections of which taper and the contacting smallest cross sections form the threshold and that the two cavities are additionally connected to one another by an air equalization channel.

Instead of these two cavities tapering on all sides, through which the housing is designed in the manner of an hourglass, a fixed short tube can also be used, inside which the sill is arranged or which is placed on a sill itself. The tube is parallel with its longitudinal axis and attached above the liquid level in the housing. In this case, there is no need for a special air balance inside the container. It is expedient to pull up the threshold lying inside or outside the tube somewhat to the side, so that the color liquid which has started to move is directed towards the opening of the sampling tube.

The invention is explained in more detail below with the aid of a few exemplary embodiments. Show it :
  • FIG. 1 shows an ink ribbon cassette with a night soaking device of the invention,
  • FIG. 2 details of the arrangement according to FIG. 1,
  • Figure 3 shows another embodiment of the night soaking device and
  • Figure 4 shows another embodiment of the night soaking device.

The ribbon cassette 1 shown in top view in FIG. 1 is attached to the carriage of a printing unit in a known, not shown manner such that the printer, not shown, comes to rest in room 3. An endless ink ribbon 2 is arranged inside the ink ribbon cassette 1 and is moved in the direction of the arrow by the drive and the pressure roller 4, 5. The ink ribbon 2 is pulled around the deflection roller 6 and the counter roller 7.

On the rear end of the ribbon cassette 1, the night soak is attached. This consists of the container 8 and the roller 12. The roller 12 is stored in the ink ribbon cassette 1 and works together with the counter roller 7. The container 8 contains two cavities 9 and 10 in its interior, the cross sections of which taper and which with their smallest cross sections counter lie.

In this area they form a threshold 16 into which a sampling tube 13 opens. Both cavities 9 and 10 can be bottle-like or in the form of a hollow pyramid or a hollow cone. It is essential that there is a threshold or narrow parts at the tapered point. A diameter of this constriction of 1.5 mm and a length of approximately 2 mm are expediently selected. So that sufficient color liquid 11 can be filled into the cavities 9 and 10, the lower edge of this threshold 16, viewed from the bottom of the cavities 9 and 10, is placed approximately in the middle of the container 8 if this container 8 has a diameter or a side edge of 11 mm . The container 8 is expediently produced from two parts, from an upper and a lower container part 14 and 15. After unscrewing the filler screw 22, ink liquid 11 can be refilled or filled through the opening that then arises. It should be ensured that the liquid level does not reach over the upper edge of the threshold 16. Both cavities 9 and 10 are additionally connected to one another via an air compensation duct 21.

During printing, the print head and the ribbon cassette are moved back and forth in the direction of the arrow P. When the direction is reversed at the end points of the movement, acceleration occurs continuously. As a result, the color liquid 11 snaps back and forth across the threshold 16. The pressure arising in this constriction also presses a small part of the paint liquid into the removal tube 13, from where the liquid reaches the sponge roller 12.

For this purpose, the removal tube 13 ends shortly above the upper lateral boundary surface of the sponge roller 12. When the ink liquid spills over the threshold 16, a small part of the paint is thus dripped onto the sponge roller 12, which transfers this ink to the ink ribbon 2. The size of the constriction and the diameter of the withdrawal tube 13 depend on the type of ink used and on the desired blackening of the impression.

If the printer is shut down, accelerations no longer occur and the inflow of color liquid in the withdrawal tube 13 dries up. The storage of the ribbon cassette in any axis does not result in an outflow of ink. Only jerky movements in the longitudinal direction of the container 8 and in a horizontal position can lead to the release of color liquid.

In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 3, the threshold 16 is formed by the apex of a run-up slope 17 falling to both sides. At this apex, a tube 18 is fastened, the longitudinal direction of which coincides with the longitudinal direction of the container 8 or runs parallel to it. In order to allow as much color liquid 11 to pass through the tube 18 when the movement is reversed, the apex of the run-off slope 17 is raised to the side of the tube 18.

In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 4, a tube 19 is fastened inside the container 8, in the interior of which the threshold 20 is arranged. So that the most possible color liquid passes through the tube 19, it is expedient that the tube 19 covers approximately the inner cross section of the container 8. For the same reason, it is expedient to design the threshold 20 laterally elevated in the longitudinal direction of the container 8.
