Abstract

Sail securing consisting of loop (2) and securing element (3) and pin (9). The securing element is placed in a hole in the mast and secured by pin (9); when removing the element the loop becomes wider. By means of this construction it is possible to secure the sail to the mast without any protrusions on the mast.

Description

  • The invention refers to the securing of a sail to the mast of a yacht. Practice has learnt us that a plain mast without protrusiens is to be preferred at the setting an taking off of the sail.
  • In this respect the securing of the top or throat of the sail presents us with a problem as by the top or throat forces are exerted on the mast in longitudinal direction.
  • The usual solution of the problem is a clip fastened to the mast, which, however, hinders setting and taking off of the sail. The invention aims at a way of securing the sail, in which the securing element is not part of the mastfitting and is able to transfer the forces in longitudinal direction to the mast and can easily be removed.
  • The invention in preferred design is explained by means of the sketch: fig. 1 gives an overall picture, fig.2 the securing element, fig. 3 the mast in section.
  • In fig. 1 is the sail to be secured, which is secured to the mast by means of line 2 with the help of securing element 3 and pin 9. The securing element (fig.2) consists of a metal tube, in which two grooves opposite each other (4), 2 holes opposite each other (6), while at the end (5) the securing element (3) has a larger inside diameter. Fig.3 shows the use of the invention. By means of knot 10 line 2. is fastened in the end of the securing element. When assembled the securing element finds itself in opening 7 in the mast 8. Pin 9 sticks through hole 6 and prevents the securing element from unduly leaving opening 7. Line 2 forms a loop, which is lead through grooves 4, through opening 7, round the mast and through the hole in the sail.
  • The working of the securing element is as follows:
    • at the removing of pin 9 the securing element can be taken out of opening 7, at which loop 2 becomes wider and the sail can easily be taken from the mast.
  • By means of this construction the length of loop 2 has to be adjusted and sealed only once.

Claims (3)

1 Securing of the sail with the feature that the loop of line 2 is secured in the widened end 5 of a securing element 3 provided with grooves 4 and holes 6. The element 3 is secured in the mast in an opening 7 and by means of pin 9.
2 Securing of the sail according to claim 1 with the feature that at the removing of securing element 3 loop 2 becomas wider.
3 Securing of the sail according to claim 1 and 2 with the feature that the securing element 3 is made of metal or synthetic material.
