Description

The invention relates to bistable electromagnetic indicators, each with a polarization magnet built into a rotatable armature.

Such indicators are known for example from DE-PS 1 935 888. They are particularly suitable for the construction of entire display blocks by which alphanumeric characters are to be displayed. Due to their bistable mode of operation, they do not need to be supplied with current in the respective display state, since the reset is also carried out by reset pulses. In a display block, each indicator, which is expediently arranged in a matrix, defines a specific pixel, and the selection of these pixels within the display area of such a display block determines the character of the character shown in each case.

A disadvantage of such indicators is, however, that a relatively large space is occupied by the flap being flipped over. In addition, the built-in polarization magnet in the plate-like display surface is very far from the core of the electromagnet controlling the display surface, so that relatively strong setting and reset pulses are necessary. The often desired smallness of such display blocks, which are equipped with such indicators, is opposed by the constructive structure of the known indicators with bistable behavior.

The invention is therefore based on the object of providing bistable electromagnetic indicators with a polarization magnet built into a rotatable armature, which can be made very small and which can be assembled in a simple manner to form a closed display block.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that the display surface of each armature is formed either by one or the other side surface of a triangular prism which can be rotated about the longitudinal axis, and in that the two poles of a polarization magnet encompassing this axis in the interior of the prism each in the region of one of the lie on both side surfaces of the prism in question. The polarization magnets are expediently horseshoe-shaped, the vertices of the individual magnets each lying on the bisector of the angle formed by the associated side faces of the triangular prism: a simple assembly of several such indicators in a display block results in a space-saving manner in that several such prismatic anchors are arranged on a common axis. To display alphanumeric characters, several rows of such anchors arranged on a common axis are expediently combined in the form of a matrix with the aid of a grid-shaped holding frame. The base plate of such a holding frame is then provided with guide holes distributed in a matrix-like manner for the passage of the pin-shaped soft iron cores of the individual electromagnets, each of which is assigned to an axis. These, in turn, are inserted with the current leads into bores of an insulating block distributed in a matrix-like manner, which are closed off by the frame carrying the armatures.

The design details and the structure of an entire display block are shown in the drawing.

Löschimpulse vorgenommen werden.1 and 2, the winding 1 of an electromagnet, which is divided into a setting coil and a quenching coil, is inserted into a corresponding bore in a holding block 8, which in turn is only indicated. The soft magnetic core 2 of the electromagnet is guided through a corresponding bore of a holding frame 3, which at the same time serves as a stop for the side surface 6 and 7 of a triangular prism which can be rotated about the axis 4 by a collar-shaped extension 9. A polarization magnet 5 is installed in this prism, which also changes its position when the direction of polarization of the electromagnet 1/2 changes and changes between the display surfaces 6 and 7, respectively. Since the two poles of the horseshoe-shaped polarization magnet 5 are in close proximity to the end of the core 2, the indicator can be reversed by relatively weak setting or erasing pulses.

In Fig. 3, the individual display organs of four indicators, which form part of an entire display block, are shown schematically. These are the rotary anchors 31, 32, 33 and 34, which can be pivoted line by line about a common axis. The pivoting takes place under the on Effect of the associated electromagnets with their cores 35, 36, 37 and 38 and the coils 39 to 42. Each of these coils is composed of a setting and an erasing coil, the comb-like rails shown in FIG. 3, which from FIG. 6 Play apparent current paths.

As shown in FIG. 6, the individual setting and canceling coils of the various indicators are combined in rows and columns, a decoupling diode D1 and D2 being inserted in each of the separately arranged row lines. The determination of which of the coils is to be excited or reset in order to activate or delete a specific pixel is made by selecting the input terminals YS1 to YL7 or the column points X1 to X5.

In FIG. 3, the column selection takes place via the connecting rails 51, 52 and 53, while the row selection takes place via the connecting rails 54, 56 etc. Each line is assigned two rails 54 and 56, since one activates the setting coils of this line and the other activates the quenching coils of this line. In each of the supply lines there is one of the diodes D1 and D2 installed.

Jeder Bohrung 60 ff sind dabei drei solcher Bohrungen zur Aufnahme der Spulenanschlüsse zugeordnet.4 and 5 show, the individual magnetic coils 40, 41 ff are inserted in matrix-like bores 60, etc. of an insulating block 8 which, in addition to the bores 60, is also provided with bores 70, 71 and 72 through which the pin-shaped Approaches of the connecting rails, both in the row and in the column direction. Each bore 60 ff is assigned three such bores for receiving the coil connections.

The cores of the individual magnets penetrating the bores in the holding block 8 are, as can also be seen from FIGS. 1 and 2, passed through corresponding bores in a holding frame 3 which in turn bears axes 4 with the corresponding display elements 32, 33 and 34. These designed according to FIGS. 1 and 2 display elements with their respective U-shaped polarization magnets represent the real thing display area of the entire display block, as can be seen in the diagram of FIG. 6. The axes are held with the aid of a holding frame 54. In the event of malfunctions in the functioning of the individual rotatable anchors, therefore, only the holding frame 3 needs to be removed without making any changes to the other components of the display block. The connections of the connecting rails 51 to 53 ff and 54/56 ff are expediently designed as plug pins, so that the wiring can also be kept very simple. Special distribution strips and the like are not necessary.
