Definitions
- the invention relates to a coupling housing, consisting of two plug-in connector housings, preferably made of plastic, the connector housings being equipped with connectors attached to electrical conductors, each of which is accommodated in individual chambers.
- the one connector housing designed as a contact pins electrical connector and the other connector housing as a contact sleeve shaped electrical connector, the purpose of contacting several conductors, z. B. in the electrical system of a motor vehicle.
- the stored in the chambers are not like the electrical conductors to which they are attached, sheathed for electrical insulation. You will only be through the ever shielded from each other and from the outside. This shielding from one another is necessary because the contacts stored in the chambers usually carry different electrical potentials when an electrical system is in operation. In many cases, e.g. B. when exposed to moisture or splash water, this shielding is not sufficient.
- Coupling housings have therefore been created, in the chambers of which each pole or contact is housed in a watertight manner, so that water or moisture cannot penetrate into any of the chambers from the outside (watertight chambers). However, this can only be achieved by a very complicated construction of the clutch housing, which increases the manufacturing costs of the clutch housing considerably.
- the object of the invention is to show a way to adequately protect the contacts in a coupling housing against the action of moisture with simple means.
- this is achieved by dispensing with watertight chambers or a watertight pole arrangement and merely ensuring potential sealing of adjacent contacts.
- This potential sealing can be achieved, for example, by arranging capillary force-refracting spaces in the opposite surfaces of the walls of a contact chamber in the plug-in shaft of the coupling housing in the direction of the adjacent chamber. Additionally or alternatively, it can be provided that the walls in the plug-in shaft area have known labyrinth sealing elements.
- Another possibility of sealing is the free end edges of the plug-in area of the pin housing and / or of the sleeve housing so that capillary-breaking cavities are formed between the walls in the inserted state.
- the coupling housing shown consists of the sleeve housing 1 and the pin housing 2. Of the sleeve housing 1, only the plug-in area is drawn; the pen housing is shown interrupted in order not to disturb the clarity of the drawing.
- the contact sleeves 4 designed electrical connectors attached to conductors 7, while in the chambers 5 of the pin housing 2 shaped as contact pins 6 electrical connectors also attached to conductors 7 are accommodated.
- the contact pins 6 When plugged in, the contact pins 6 are inserted in the contact sleeves 4, so that the intended electrical contact is ensured.
- the contacts of adjacent chambers of the clutch housing are sealed off from one another. Since the chambers 5 of the pin housing 2 and the chambers 3 of the sleeve housing 1 form laterally closed spaces, which are generally only open at the front and rear, the chambers are mutually sealed in this respect. Only the plug-in area is therefore critical 8, in which the electrical contact between the contact pins 6 and the contact sleeves 4 is housed.
- the plug-in area 8 is formed by the plug-in shaft 9 of the pin housing 2 and the plug-in socket 10 of the sleeve housing 1.
- the plug-in shaft 9 accommodates the plug-in socket 10 in a form-fitting and possibly also frictional manner, which results in the coupled state of the housing 1 and 2.
- further locking elements can be provided for locking the two housings.
- the positive coupling creates narrow gaps between the opposing surfaces of the plug-in shaft 9 and the plug-in socket 10, which can conduct moisture from one chamber to the other due to capillary force. This capillary action of the interfaces can result in a water film that conductively connects contacts of different potentials in adjacent chambers, so that the potential gradient is compensated for and the electrical connection of a contact is impaired.
- chambers 5 a are provided in the extension of the chambers 5 in the insertion shaft 9, which preferably have a circumferential, right-angled stop step 11 directed towards the chamber.
- the plug-in socket 10 has 8 chambers 3 in the plug-in area.
- the outer contour of the chambers 3 is adapted to the inner contour of the chambers 5 a, so that there is a positive interlocking of the plug-in socket 10 and the plug-in shaft 9, the stop steps 11 limiting the insertion depth of the plug-in socket 10, by abutting the free end edges 12 of the connector 10 there.
- flat counter surfaces 13 may be provided against which the free end edges 14 a of the chamber walls of the slot 9 can abut.
- At least the plug area 8 of the coupling housing is preferably rectangular in cross section.
- the insertion shaft 9 has the two outer side walls 14, 15 and the bottom wall arranged at right angles thereto and the opposite top wall (not shown or hidden in the drawing). The space formed by these elements is divided by chamber webs 17 arranged parallel to the walls, so that the chambers 5 a result.
- the free end edges 18 of the plug-in shaft are preferably provided with an inward circumferential chamfer 19.
- the plug connector 10 consists of the two outer side walls 20, 21 and the bottom wall 16 and the opposite top wall (not shown).
- the chamber webs 22 are arranged between these walls and parallel thereto, so that the chambers 3 are formed.
- the plug socket 10 can expediently have an outer circumferential step 23 at the end of the plug-in area 8, against which the free end edge 18 of the plug-in shaft 9 can abut.
- the spaces 24 between the side walls 14, 15 and 20, 21 and between the floor and ceiling walls and the chamber webs 17, 22 act capillary because of the close adjustment as soon as the plug-in area with moisture or water, for. B. splashing water in the engine compartment of a motor vehicle comes into contact.
- the free end regions of the walls and chamber webs of the plug-in area 8 are chamfered. This results in voids or free spaces 25 which break the capillary force of the interspaces so that the moisture is not passed on.
- a chamfer 26 directed towards the chamber on the free end edge of the walls 20, 21 and the floor and ceiling walls and the chamber webs 22, so that the capillary-breaking space 25 is formed by the stop step 11 and the chamfer 26 (see FIG. 1 , left side).
- FIG. 1 On the right side in FIG. 1, another expedient embodiment of this free end edge of the walls and webs of the plug connector 10 is shown. It is an inner chamfer 27 and an outer chamfer 28, so that there is a gable-shaped end edge in cross section, which results in an inner and outer capillary-breaking space 25.
- the walls and chamber webs of the plug-in shaft 9 can also be formed in the same way. This embodiment is shown in the middle of FIG. 1.
- the capillary-breaking spaces 25 are each formed next to the free edge 14 a.
- ribs 29 can be arranged on the surfaces of the webs 17 and / or 22 and / or the walls 20, 21 and / or the walls 14, 15, so that there are more Rooms 25 result or labyrinth seals are created.
- grooves can also be made in the surfaces, which form additional capillary-breaking cavities (not shown).
- connector housings are lockable in the housing walls 31 with the respective wall, z. B. provided with a hinge web 30 seated tabs 32.
- the tabs When the tabs are open, the connectors can be inserted into the chambers 5.
- the tab 32 When the tabs close the opening 33 in the wall 31, the tab 32 generally forms an angle lever which serves as a rear abutment for the connector 6 in the chamber 5.
- these tabs 32 for potential sealing are equipped, at least on the long sides of the tabs, with a lip seal 34 which seals the gap between the tab 32 and the chamber wall of the opening 33.
- a lip seal 34 which seals the gap between the tab 32 and the chamber wall of the opening 33.
- other sealing elements can also be provided, which ensure that the gap in the opening between the wall of the housing and the tab is at least splash-proof sealed.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a coupling housing, consisting of two plug-in connector housings, preferably made of plastic, the connector housings being equipped with connectors attached to electrical conductors, each of which is accommodated in individual chambers.
As a rule, the one connector housing designed as a contact pins electrical connector and the other connector housing as a contact sleeve shaped electrical connector, the purpose of contacting several conductors, z. B. in the electrical system of a motor vehicle.
In vielen Fällen, z. The stored in the chambers, mostly formed from stamped sheet metal contacts, consisting of z. B. from contact pins and contact sleeves, are not like the electrical conductors to which they are attached, sheathed for electrical insulation. Coupling housings have therefore been created, in the chambers of which each pole or contact is housed in a watertight manner, so that water or moisture cannot penetrate into any of the chambers from the outside (watertight chambers). However, this can only be achieved by a very complicated construction of the clutch housing, which increases the manufacturing costs of the clutch housing considerably.
The object of the invention is to show a way to adequately protect the contacts in a coupling housing against the action of moisture with simple means.
Surprisingly, this is achieved by dispensing with watertight chambers or a watertight pole arrangement and merely ensuring potential sealing of adjacent contacts. This potential sealing can be achieved, for example, by arranging capillary force-refracting spaces in the opposite surfaces of the walls of a contact chamber in the plug-in shaft of the coupling housing in the direction of the adjacent chamber. Additionally or alternatively, it can be provided that the walls in the plug-in shaft area have known labyrinth sealing elements. Another possibility of sealing is the free end edges of the plug-in area of the pin housing and / or of the sleeve housing so that capillary-breaking cavities are formed between the walls in the inserted state.
- Fig. 1 einen Schnitt durch ein Kupplungsgehäuse,
- Fig. 2 schematisch eine Ausgestaltung der erfindungsgemäßen Potentialabdichtung.
- 1 shows a section through a clutch housing,
- Fig. 2 shows schematically an embodiment of the potential seal according to the invention.
The coupling housing shown consists of the
In the
According to the invention, the contacts of adjacent chambers of the clutch housing are sealed off from one another. Since the
The plug-in
To prevent this,
At least the
The
The
It is expedient to arrange a chamfer 26 directed towards the chamber on the free end edge of the
On the right side in FIG. 1, another expedient embodiment of this free end edge of the walls and webs of the
Here,
In many known connector housings are lockable in the
According to the invention, these
