Abstract

A nipple has a suction body (1) in the form of an envelope with an internal cavity, means for preventing the extreme free part of the suction body from falling if the cover breaks. The suction body (1) is connected to a holding plate (2) at its end opposite to its free end. Said means comprise a connecting member (9) fixed to the free end of the suction body and extending through the cavity, this member being connected to the opposite end of the suction body or the holding plate. Said connecting member is a cord (9) integral with the suction body. When the suction body (1) passes at its opposite end through an opening (3) in the holding plate (2), said rope (9) extends through this opening and has a bead of end.

Description

SOOTHER
TECHNICAL FIELD The- present invention relates to soothers or nipples for children and specifically relates to means in a soother with a hollow suction body which is connected at one end to a holding plate.
PRIOR ART In prior art soothers for children where the suction body is a soft, resilient and suction resistant material, there is, after use for some time, a risk that the suction body or part thereof comes loose and enters the mouth cavity. Then the suction body can easily get stuck in the throat and obstruct the respiratory paths.
PURPOSE OF THE INVENTION The object of the invention is to provide a soother which obviates the above mentioned drawback of the prior art soothers. In accordance with the invention this object'is achieved by means in a soother of the above mentioned kind, which means is characterized in that a connection member extends through the hollow suction body from its suction end to the opposite end for separately securing the free end of the suction body.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING The invention is described in detail below with reference to the enclosed drawing including a single Figure 1 illustrating a preferred embodiment of the soother according to the invention in a lateral view partly in cross section.
PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION AND INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY Referring to the drawing the soother includes a hollow suction body 1 which is connected at one end to a fairly rigid holding plate 2. Suction body 1 is shaped as an envelope, the walls of which delimit an interior cavity. Said envelope is made of a soft, resilient suction resistant material, preferably rubber, and ordinarily has the shape symmetric rotation shown on the drawing.
Suction body 1"has a free end for entering the mouth and a conn tion end which securely connects the suction body to holding plate 2. In the embodiment shown the suction body extends through a central opening 3 in the holding plate, and at the other side thereof has an annular bead 4 which prevents the suction body from being drawn loos 'from the holding plate. Often an insert sleeve 5 with a radial flange is introduced thr the opening 3 in order to secure further that the suction body canno drawn away from holding plate 2.
In the embodiment shown two opposite projections 6 are located side the opening 3. These projections 6 carry a ring 7 which has faci stops 8 located adjacent to opening 3 and above bead 4 of the suctio body. In this way bead 4 of the suction body is trapped between holdi plate 2 on one hand and the stops 8 of the ring 7 on the other hand, which results in a secure locking of the suction body.
According to the invention a connection is provided between the f ee end of suction body 1 and the holding plate. Although this conn tion can be realized in several ways a particularly preferred embodi ment is shown on the drawing. Said connection is achieved by means o a connection member 9 shaped as a chord or a string which from the i side of the free end of the suction body extends through the cavity a through opening 3 in the holding plate to the other side thereof, whe the chord or string has a stop 10 shaped as a bead. This bead is loca (in respect of holding plate 2} at the other side of the suction bod bead 4. Preferably, the chord or string 9 is an integrated part of th suction body itself. It is realized that the chord 9 prevents any part of the suction body from falling off if the suction body cover should break.
Preferably, connection member 9 has a circular cross section. Mo oyer, as disclosed on the drawing, connection member 9 may have a longitudinal center channel 11 which makes said member more deformabl and possibly increases its strength.
In accordance with a preferred method for manufacturing the soot according to the invention, the suction body is manufactured in one piece with the cover turned inside out in such a way that chord 9 and
J E
O PI the suction body itself are turned in the opposite directions. After forming the suction body, which, is made of an elastic material, the cover is brought over the chord in such a way that the design shown on the drawing is achieved. Of course, several other embodiments of the invention are possible.
Thus, at the free end of the suction body, inside the cavity, there may be a projection having a through opening, through which a thread ex¬ tends to pass through the suction body cavity and out through opening 3, which thread is fixed in a suitable manner to hofding plate 2, its projections 6 or ring 7. In accordance with another possible embodi¬ ment the chord as disclosed on the drawing is made in one piece with the suction body and projects from the free end of the suction body through the cavity, the chord however being connected at its other end to suction body bead 4. Then chord 9 can be integral with suction body bead 4.
