Definitions
- the invention relates to an ink writing device with ink channels running in a writing head between an ink reservoir and a nozzle plate having a row of outlet nozzles and with piezoelectric drive elements assigned to the ink channels.
- An ink writing device of the specified type is known from DE-OS 25 43 451.
- the actual write head of such a known device contains a series of ink channels with tubular piezoelectric transducer elements surrounding them.
- the ink channels end on one side of the print head at a nozzle plate having outlet openings.
- they are connected to the ink reservoir via a distributor device.
- a shock wave is generated in the ink channels and an ink droplet is ejected from the outlet openings.
- ink is sucked up from the ink reservoir, a negative ink meniscus being formed at the outlet opening at the same time. A suction of air through the outlet openings is prevented by the capillary effect of the very small outlet openings.
- Outlet opening of the nozzle plate in the idle state has a negative meniscus which, with additional uncontrolled movements of the writing head, can extend so far inward that the blocking effect of the outlet opening is overcome and the ink flow breaks off.
- the invention has for its object to increase the blocking effect at the outlet end of the ink channels, without affecting the size of the ejected ink droplets.
- a blocking screen is arranged between the ink channels and the outlet openings of the nozzle plate, which has several openings per ink channel, and that the opening are arranged symmetrically to the outlet nozzle and each have a smaller cross-section than this.
- the main advantage of this is that the barrier pressure, ie the pressure at which the ink liquid tears off at the inner end of the outlet opening of the nozzle plate, can be increased considerably without affecting the size of the ink droplets to be ejected. This significantly reduces the sensitivity of the ink writing device to vibrations.
- the blocking screen can be designed as a thin plate provided with circular or segment-shaped openings, which is inserted between the nozzle plate and the write head.
- the nozzle plate and the blocking screen can also be combined in a single part, for example, be designed as a galvanoplastic part. This has the advantage that the air gap which occurs when using a separate blocking screen is avoided between this and the nozzle plate.
- ink channels 2 run in the write head 1 shown there, which is produced, for example, by the casting process, each of which is assigned a piezoelectric drive element in the form of a tube 3 enveloping the ink channels.
- the ink channels 2 are closed off with a nozzle plate 5 which has a number of outlet openings 6 corresponding to the number of ink channels.
- a distributor device 7 which is connected via an inlet channel 8 to an ink reservoir (not shown here).
- a grid-type writing is thus created on the writing medium 4, in front of which the writing head is moved line by line.
- the ejection process is preceded by a suction phase, while the ink flows through the inlet channel 8 and the distributor Lervvor substances 7 is sucked. Simultaneously with this, the ink is sucked inward in the outlet opening 6, whereby under normal operating conditions under the influence of the surface tension of the ink and the very narrow outlet openings, depending on capillary effects, the ink at the inner edge of the outlet openings in the nozzle plate is prevented from tearing off and on Avoid inflow of air. Under special conditions, such as vibrations, this blocking effect is not always sufficient and controllable.
- the solution according to the invention therefore provides a blocking screen. Examples of this are shown in FIGS. 2 and 3.
- the blocking screen is arranged in the form of a thin plate 9 between the write head 1 and the nozzle plate 5.
- the blocking screen 9 can be produced by the same method as the electroplating as the nozzle plate. It can be clamped between the nozzle plate and the print head and fixed using centering pins.
- the blocking screen 9 has openings which in the example according to .Fig. 2 circular openings 10, segment-shaped openings 11 in the example according to FIG. 3.
- the operation of the blocking sieve is as follows. As the vacuum of the ink increases, the ink is drawn more and more inwards into the outlet opening 6, ie the negative meniscus of the ink surface becomes increasingly stronger. If the blocking effect of the outlet opening 6 is overcome, the ink runs back to the blocking screen 9.
- the blocking screen 9 with its openings 10 (FIG. 2) or 11 (FIG. 3) now causes a sudden increase in the blocking pressure. For example, has the outlet opening 6 a diameter of 80 / u and an opening 10 or 11 of the locking screen 9 a diameter of 30 / u, the barrier pressure increases to about three times as soon as the penetrated air reaches the locking screen.
- the blocking pressure of the blocking screen 9 drops again, while the air volume sucked in increases significantly while forming a negative ink meniscus on the inner edge of the blocking screen 9. Even in this unfavorable case, the ink does not tear off. Instead, an air volume of such a size is built up in the ink channel that even high pressure pulses, such as those caused by vibrations, are still broken down before the air bubble breaks off in front of the opening and thus remains in the ink channel.
- the exemplary embodiments according to FIGS. 2 and 3 provide a thin plate inserted between the write head and the nozzle plate as a blocking screen. Although this is easy to manufacture, a minimal air gap between the print head and the nozzle plate cannot always be avoided due to the extremely small dimensions.
- a further improvement can be achieved in that the blocking screen and the nozzle plate are manufactured and used as a common unit. An exemplary embodiment of this is shown in FIG. 4.
- the blocking screen with the nozzle plate is produced in a single one, for example by the galvanoplastic process th component 13 integrated.
- only one outlet opening 6 of the nozzle plate, which is no longer shown here, is shown, at which seven openings 12 of the blocking screen end:
Abstract
For ink jet writing devices in which the ink channels end in outlet openings on a nozzle plate, a blocking screen is provided in the area of each outlet opening and has a plurality of openings of smaller diameter symmetrical to the outlet opening; the blocking screen is designed as a separate thin plate, or it is integrated with the nozzle plate.
Description
The invention relates to an ink writing device with ink channels running in a writing head between an ink reservoir and a nozzle plate having a row of outlet nozzles and with piezoelectric drive elements assigned to the ink channels.
An ink writing device of the specified type is known from DE-OS 25 43 451. The actual write head of such a known device contains a series of ink channels with tubular piezoelectric transducer elements surrounding them. The ink channels end on one side of the print head at a nozzle plate having outlet openings. On the other hand, they are connected to the ink reservoir via a distributor device. By suitable control of the piezoelectric transducer elements, a shock wave is generated in the ink channels and an ink droplet is ejected from the outlet openings. During a suction phase, ink is sucked up from the ink reservoir, a negative ink meniscus being formed at the outlet opening at the same time. A suction of air through the outlet openings is prevented by the capillary effect of the very small outlet openings.
In diesem Falle bildet die Tinte in der Fk 1 Obh / 18.2.1980However, this blocking effect can be removed if the ink writing device is subjected to strong vibrations. It can happen that air is sucked in through the outlet openings, which significantly affects the printing process or can even make it impossible. This undesirable effect can also occur in ink writing devices that work according to the so-called negative pressure method in idle mode or during pauses in writing. In this case the ink in the Fk 1 Obh / 18.2.1980
Outlet opening of the nozzle plate in the idle state has a negative meniscus which, with additional uncontrolled movements of the writing head, can extend so far inward that the blocking effect of the outlet opening is overcome and the ink flow breaks off.
The invention has for its object to increase the blocking effect at the outlet end of the ink channels, without affecting the size of the ejected ink droplets.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that a blocking screen is arranged between the ink channels and the outlet openings of the nozzle plate, which has several openings per ink channel, and that the opening are arranged symmetrically to the outlet nozzle and each have a smaller cross-section than this.
The main advantage of this is that the barrier pressure, ie the pressure at which the ink liquid tears off at the inner end of the outlet opening of the nozzle plate, can be increased considerably without affecting the size of the ink droplets to be ejected. This significantly reduces the sensitivity of the ink writing device to vibrations.
The blocking screen can be designed as a thin plate provided with circular or segment-shaped openings, which is inserted between the nozzle plate and the write head.
In an embodiment of the invention, the nozzle plate and the blocking screen can also be combined in a single part, for example, be designed as a galvanoplastic part. This has the advantage that the air gap which occurs when using a separate blocking screen is avoided between this and the nozzle plate.

In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 1, six
The ejection process is preceded by a suction phase, while the ink flows through the inlet channel 8 and the distributor Lervvorrichtung 7 is sucked. The solution according to the invention therefore provides a blocking screen. Examples of this are shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. In both figures, a section of the
The operation of the blocking sieve is as follows. As the vacuum of the ink increases, the ink is drawn more and more inwards into the outlet opening 6, ie the negative meniscus of the ink surface becomes increasingly stronger. If the blocking effect of the outlet opening 6 is overcome, the ink runs back to the blocking
If the pressure in the ink channel rises again, the ink is pressed through the openings of the blocking
The exemplary embodiments according to FIGS. 2 and 3 provide a thin plate inserted between the write head and the nozzle plate as a blocking screen. Although this is easy to manufacture, a minimal air gap between the print head and the nozzle plate cannot always be avoided due to the extremely small dimensions. In an embodiment of the invention, a further improvement can be achieved in that the blocking screen and the nozzle plate are manufactured and used as a common unit. An exemplary embodiment of this is shown in FIG. 4. Here, the blocking screen with the nozzle plate is produced in a single one, for example by the galvanoplastic
