Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for drying radioactive waste water concentrates from evaporator systems with a two-drum dryer. Furthermore, the invention relates to a device for performing the aforementioned method.
- radioactive waste water is cleaned in decontamination evaporators.
- the contaminants are enriched with the radioactive components in the so-called concentrate, which is solidified with a binder for final storage.
- it is necessary to solve the problems that can arise from the different concentrate composition for Example of chloride, sodium sulfate and detergent-containing concentrates from boiling water reactors and concentrates with boron salts, as they occur in particular in the cleaning of coolants in pressurized water reactors.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of finding a drying which is equally suitable for the various concentrates and which also results in cheap dry products for intermediate storage and later introduction.
- the method according to the invention is that the concentrate is preheated to 60 ° C and with a solids content of at most 20% in an amount of 10 to 20 l / m 2 usable roll area and hour for dwell times of 7 to 18 seconds at roll temperatures between 160 and 210 0 C is dried.
- the dry product produced by the process according to the invention has a low residual moisture content of only 1 to 5% and therefore has excellent properties with regard to further treatment. It can easily be removed from the rollers and then processed with the known embedding materials such as cement, bitumen or plastic, with which it is preferably filled into the usual 200 1 drums and sent for final storage. However, it is also suitable for temporary storage without a binder because it is only slightly hygroscopic.

It has been found that at such high temperatures (> 180 ° C) in conjunction with pH values of 3 to 8 boron salts with a low crystal water content are formed, which are far less hygroscopic than in other drying processes.
- the concentration of sodium metaborate in the concentrate may be adjusted to a maximum of 10 percent by weight, in particular by adding calcium chloride, because the crystal form desired for the dry product is certainly achieved.
- the residence time which determines the amount of heat supplied, is obtained for commercially available drum dryers at roll speeds of 2 to 5 U / m.
- the dry matter content of the concentrate is preferably 15 percent by weight. However, the content of filterable solids should not exceed 5 percent by weight. These limit values can be met by adding, for example, filter concentrates or sedimentation with sludge.

Description
The invention relates to a method for drying radioactive waste water concentrates from evaporator systems with a two-drum dryer. Furthermore, the invention relates to a device for performing the aforementioned method.
In nuclear facilities, radioactive waste water is cleaned in decontamination evaporators. The contaminants are enriched with the radioactive components in the so-called concentrate, which is solidified with a binder for final storage. Before solidification, it is often advisable to remove the water from the concentrate by drying in order to reduce the volume of waste and to ensure certain product properties. In order to enable this drying at all, it is necessary to solve the problems that can arise from the different concentrate composition, for Example of chloride, sodium sulfate and detergent-containing concentrates from boiling water reactors and concentrates with boron salts, as they occur in particular in the cleaning of coolants in pressurized water reactors. The invention is therefore based on the object of finding a drying which is equally suitable for the various concentrates and which also results in cheap dry products for intermediate storage and later introduction.
The method according to the invention is that the concentrate is preheated to 60 ° C and with a solids content of at most 20% in an amount of 10 to 20 l / m 2 usable roll area and hour for dwell times of 7 to 18 seconds at roll temperatures between 160 and 210 0 C is dried. The dry product produced by the process according to the invention has a low residual moisture content of only 1 to 5% and therefore has excellent properties with regard to further treatment. It can easily be removed from the rollers and then processed with the known embedding materials such as cement, bitumen or plastic, with which it is preferably filled into the usual 200 1 drums and sent for final storage. However, it is also suitable for temporary storage without a binder because it is only slightly hygroscopic. The low residual moisture, which is decisive for the shelf life and has so far been neglected in this sense, can be achieved due to the preheating, the pH value and the negative pressure at very special roller temperatures, which are dependent on the concentrate composition. For boiling water reactor evaporator concentrates and for pressurized water reactor evaporator concentrates with organic components, a temperature of approximately 160 ° C applies, for pressurized water reactor evaporator concentrates with boron salts a temperature of 180 to 210 ° C. It has been found that at such high temperatures (> 180 ° C) in conjunction with pH values of 3 to 8 boron salts with a low crystal water content are formed, which are far less hygroscopic than in other drying processes. The concentration of sodium metaborate in the concentrate may be adjusted to a maximum of 10 percent by weight, in particular by adding calcium chloride, because the crystal form desired for the dry product is certainly achieved.
- tm = Konzentrattemperatur (°C) tv = Verweilzeit (h) p = Produktrestfeuchte (%) FN = nutzbare Walzenoberfläche (m2)
- CM = Trockenstoff-Anteil im s = Schichtdicke (m) Konzentrat (%)
- Q =Beschickungsmenge (m3/h) tW = Walzentemperatur (°C)
- t m = concentrate temperature (° C) t v = residence time (h) p = residual product moisture (%) F N = usable roll surface (m2)
- C M = dry matter content in s = layer thickness (m) concentrate (%)
- Q = loading quantity (m3 / h) t W = roller temperature (° C)
It is advantageous to set the pH to 3 to 8 and a negative pressure of 0.1 to 0.8 bar, depending on the concentrate composition. The residence time, which determines the amount of heat supplied, is obtained for commercially available drum dryers at roll speeds of 2 to 5 U / m. The dry matter content of the concentrate is preferably 15 percent by weight. However, the content of filterable solids should not exceed 5 percent by weight. These limit values can be met by adding, for example, filter concentrates or sedimentation with sludge.
Decisive for the correct operation of a concentrate drying system is a process-related interconnection of apparatus and the preparation of the concentrates for drying as well as the after-treatment of the substances separated by the drying (powder, water vapor and other volatile substances). The correspond Apparatus circuit is shown in the accompanying drawing, which is explained below.
In a storage container 1, which is equipped with an agitator 2 and a
Between the storage container 1 and a two-
The circuit 11 is fed in the shortest possible way by means of a
The dry product is removed from the scraper knives assigned to the
The
The water portion of the concentrate evaporated in the
The air which has broken into the vacuum system and is loaded with aerosols is cleaned in this
To prevent water vapor condensation with possibly renewed water absorption of the powdery product discharged from the
The
In order to reduce corrosion damage, which could also only be remedied with personnel expenditure that is undesirable because of the radiation exposure, in the exemplary embodiment at least the
However, it can also be advantageous to carry out further parts of the device according to the invention with corrosion-resistant surfaces.
In the exemplary embodiment, the above-mentioned relationship of the parameters of the drying, which gave excellent results in tests with regard to the processability and storability of the dry product, gives values in the range from 40 to 200. 10-5.
