Abstract

The application relates to a drive element consisting of a winding (6) formed by several layers of a thin plastic film (9) with large electrical contact on both sides with piezoelectric properties, which surrounds the compression chamber in the plastic housing of the spray head (1). The winding can consist of foils placed against one another with opposite polarization directions or of foils placed against one another (9) and insulating material (10). A voltage pulse of lower amplitude than for operation with the piezo tube is necessary for contraction of the drive element and thus for droplet formation.

Description

The invention relates to a piezoelectric drive element for writing nozzles, in particular in ink mosaic writing devices, in which a writing fluid contained in a compression chamber enclosed by the drive element in a cylindrical manner is ejected in droplets by controllable contraction of the compression chamber.

It has long been known to use the so-called piezo effect for driving writing nozzles in ink writing devices. A piezoelectric drive element for writing nozzles is known for example from DE-PS 25 37 767. The application of this effect in an ink mosaic writing device is described for example in DE-OS 25 48 691. In this known arrangement tubular, the ink channels cylindrical encircling drive elements are made of polarized ceramic used, the diameter of which narrow when an electrical voltage polarized in the direction of the polarization voltage is applied, and widen when an electrical voltage polarized against the polarization voltage is applied. The drive element is first expanded via a suitable circuit arrangement and then controlled by reversing the polarity of the voltage into a narrowed state, as a result of which an ink droplet is ejected. A pulse-like voltage of more than 80V is required to operate such an arrangement. The circuits to be provided for generating the voltage pulse increase the outlay for an ink spray head insofar as such voltage generation must be present for each of the piezoelectrically operated writing nozzles.

The invention has for its object to provide a piezoelectric drive element for writing nozzles in ink mosaic writing devices, which can be operated with a significantly lower voltage while maintaining the known advantages of such arrangements.

This object is achieved by the features specified in the characterizing part of patent claim 1. Further embodiments of the invention are characterized by the features specified in the subclaims.

  • Fig. 2 und 3 jeweils Aufbaumöglichkeiten für ein Antriebselement.
Details of the invention are described in more detail below with reference to the drawings. In detail shows
  • Fig. 1 shows a section of a write head with a drive element
  • 2 and 3 each construction options for a drive element.

The writing head 1 of an ink mosaic writing device partially shown in FIG. 1 contains the ink channel 2, which narrows towards the outlet opening 3 and forms a writing nozzle. The write head 1 is closed by a nozzle plate 4 which has the outlet openings 3. The ink channel 2 is partially enclosed in a cylindrical shape by the drive element 5, 6. In the area of the drive element, the ink channel represents a so-called compression chamber. In the exemplary embodiment, the drive element consists of a winding 6, which is formed by many layers of a thin film with piezoelectric properties which is contacted on both sides over a large area, and which has one on the end faces and on the outer surfaces elastic material 5, which may for example be silicone rubber, is encased. The voltage pulses necessary for the operation of the piezoelectric drive element are applied via connections 7, 8, by means of which a change in the inner radius of the winding is effected depending on the polarity of the designed voltage and the direction of the polarization voltage of the piezoelectric material.

The winding shown in FIG. 2 consists of several layers of a thin film 9, for example polyvinylidene difluoride PVDF, which is contacted on both sides over a large area. It is formed by winding two foils placed against one another, both foils being piezoelectrically active. As shown in FIG. 3, one of the foils can be replaced by an insulating layer 10. In any case, it is essential that between There is very good contact between the individual layers of the winding. This can be achieved, for example, by mechanical pre-tensioning when the films are wound up or by thinly coating the films with viscous adhesives or liquids before the winding process.

The winding is either poured directly into the comparatively rigid plastic body of the ink spray head, or, as in the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 1, it is encased on the end faces and on the outer surfaces by an elastic material, for example silicone rubber.

Electrodes are used to connect the winding to the operating voltage, for which materials with low modulus of elasticity, high ductility and high electrical conductivity are advantageously used.

With a drive element designed according to the invention, which surrounds an ink channel with a diameter of approximately 0.8 mm in a cylindrical shape over a width of approximately 10 mm, droplets at a pulse voltage of 35 V from an outlet opening with a diameter of 40 / u can be driven at a speed of 4 m / sec be expelled.
