Abstract

The filter rod consists of a filter material with a filter wrapping sheet. The filter material consists of a cellulose acetate tow to which a plasticiser, for example triacetin or triethylene glycol diacetate, has been added. This tow is used to produce an endless filter rod by bonding the tow rod and the filter wrapping paper together by means of an adhesive or a solution of cellulose acetate in triacetin or triethylene glycol diacetate. The simplified and less costly process for producing the filter rod comprises adding cellulose acetate in the preparation of the filter wrapping film, so that no additional adhesive is required.

Description

The invention relates to a method for producing a filter rod from which individual filters for cigarettes are obtained, consisting of a filter material (material) - this consisting of a cellulose acetate rope, mixed with a plasticizer - with a filter wrapping film.

DE-AS 1 082 542 beschrieben wird.It is customary, as detailed in DE-PS 1) 1 028 926, 2) 1 032 693, 3) 1 047 096 and 4.) DE-OS 2 251 525, individual filters for filter cigarettes in this way that synthetic fibers or threads, in particular cellulose acetate threads, mixed with a solvent (plasticizer) or melted by heat, are formed into an endless filter strand, which is covered by a filter wrapping paper, which is glued to the filter strand, either pure or serve as plasticizers Solvents like Triacetin, triethylene glycol diacetate or glycols according to 5.) US Pat. No. 3,393,684 or diglycerol compounds according to 6.) DE-AS 23 41 685 and keto acid esters according to 7.) DE-AS 23 62 701 or mixtures of these compounds also with other substances, as described for example in the 8th) DE-AS 1 082 542.

US-PS 3.426.764.The plasticizer or the plasticizer is applied to the filter material, for example in US Pat. No. 3,306,254, before the continuous filter strand is enclosed by the filter wrapping paper. The endless filter strand can also be made from fluffy material. Such a method is described in 10.) U S -PS 3.366.521. Other materials, such as paper strips, can also be inserted into the endless filter strand as in No. 11) US Pat. No. 3,426,764.

There are also procedures that do without filter wrapping papers. For example, in U.S. Pat. No. 3,470,008, an invention is described in which the filter wrapping paper is replaced by a wrapping of waxes and resins which is applied as a molten mixture to the continuous filter strand by a special device. Another method uses ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers as the wrapping material, see 13.) CA-PS 838.444. Also, there are special devices in which (as in 14) EN - is provided with a filter rod skin - PS 26 29 906 by heating and local Sohmelzen) of the endless. However, these methods are more expensive than the usual use of filter wrapping paper because they require additional processing steps and materials and the band process of Filter production is significantly slowed down by the cooling or curing phase.

The bonding of the continuous filter strand with the filter wrapper paper in a conventional manner by using a glue, hard-melt adhesive or a solution of cellulose acetate in triacetin or triethylene lykoldiacetat g is applied to the filter wrapping paper. Filter rods are then first produced from such a filter strand and from this individual filter for the cigarettes.

The invention has for its object to simplify and cheapen the manufacturing process of the filter train.

The invention consists in that cellulose acetate is added in the production of the filter covering film. It is particularly advantageous to proceed in such a way that thaw waste and / or filter strand weft (waste) and / or cigarette filter weft (waste) is used in the production of the filter wrapping film.

With the aforementioned features according to the invention, the object is achieved in a particularly simple and advantageous manner. The addition of cellulose acetate in the manufacture of the filter wrapping film ensures that it is glued to the filter material, which consists of a cellulose acetate dew mixed with a plasticizer, without additional application of glue, hard-melt adhesive or a solution of cellulose acetate in Triacetin or triethylene glycol diacetate. This avoids an additional operation and the associated costs and thus ver the entire manufacturing process approves.

However, the method according to the invention can, according to the further proposal of the invention, be made considerably cheaper by using thaw waste and / or filter strand weft (waste) and / or cigarette filter weft (waste) in the manufacture of the filter wrapping film. This also eliminates the cost of procuring cellulose acetate. Experience has shown that a considerable percentage of waste or rejects, also sometimes called "weft", is produced in the manufacture of the dew or the filter rod or the cigarette filter. This amount of rejects is sufficient to be able to successfully carry out the method according to the invention, even without additional procurement of cellulose acetate.

Another advantage of using a continuous filter section or cigarette filter section is that the repeated use of the method according to the invention reduces the paper content of the filter wrapping film to a minimum, so that in practice a paper-free filter wrapping film can be obtained. If only thaw waste is used, the filter wrapping film is effectively paper-free. Furthermore, due to the more uniform gluing of rope and filter wrapping film, gluing of rope and filter wrapping film, the resulting filter rod is generally harder than a comparison rod, in which the filter wrapping paper is applied in a conventional manner of glue, hard-melt adhesive or a solution of cellulose acetate in triacetin or triethylene glycol diacetate is glued with a rope. However, a higher hardness of the filter rods represents an improvement in quality, which is positive both for further processing and for the end product, filter cigarette.

The following examples 1 to 3 represent further proposals for the invention which require particular advantages.

BEISPIEL 1EXAMPLE 1

Cellulose acetate dust was used to make the filter wrapping film. The acetate dust was taken from the waste from the thawing process. The average grain size of the individual fibers (dust particles) was 0.003 mm. According to the invention was prepared from this A cetatstaub the filter wrap film was produced, the proportion of the cellulose Acetatstaubs between 30% and 70% was varied. Other components of the pulp from which the filter wrapping film was made in the fire process were calcium carbonate, potash and cellulose. The air permeability of the filter wrapping films was varied such that both air-impermeable filter wrapping films and those with air permeability up to 1600 cm / min: kPa (measured according to draft DIN 20 247) occurred.

BEISPIEL 2EXAMPLE 2

The starting material for another production of the filter wrapping film according to the invention was cellulose acetate fibers, which were obtained by finely cutting acetate dew waste. The filter wrapping film is produced in the same way as in Example 1. However, the mean fiber length of the acetate fibers in this fold was 0.017 mm. It is not advisable to choose too large cutting lengths, since the resulting higher surface roughness of the filter wrapping film produced during filter production would accelerate the wear of the machines due to increased abrasion.

BEISPIEL 3EXAMPLE 3

Figure imgb0001
Filter strand shot, as is usually produced in the manufacture of acetate filters, in particular when starting up the machines, served as the starting material for another test of the filter wrapping film according to the invention. The waste material was first cut to three different cutting widths on a cutting machine, as is also used for cutting tobacco - (referred to as "fine", "medium" and "coarse"). Filter wrapping films according to the invention were produced from these materials. Since the filter wrapping film is exposed to strong tensile stress during processing, it is advisable to operate the film production in such a way that the breaking loads are not too low. The filter wrapping films produced for the test described here had the following breaking loads:
Figure imgb0001

The technological properties of the filter wrapping film were then tested in a long-term test on the filter manufacturing machine. For this purpose, a filter wrapping film was used, which, as already described, was produced from a filter strand shot. The cellulose acetate content was 30%, the weight per unit area of this filter wrapping film was 30 + 1.5 g / m 2 , the breaking load was greater than 28 N and the longitudinal elongation was 1.5 + 0.5% (measured according to DIN 53 112 ). The technological properties of the filter wrapping film proved to be clearly superior to the conventional technology, in which filter wrapping paper was glued to the rope with glue. In particular, the filter rods produced were distinguished by a 25% greater hardness compared to the comparison filter rods, due to the better connection of rope and filter wrapping film.

Furthermore, a further development according to the invention is to be seen in the fact that a proportion of 30% to 70% cellulose acetate is added to the production of the filter covering film. In addition, a further development according to the invention can also be seen in the fact that, in addition to cellulose acetate, 70% to 30% of pulp are added. The features identified before ensure that the filter wrapping film can be produced in a particularly advantageous manner with properties that are good in practice. In this context, it is also advantageous to carry out the method in such a way that additional potash and / or calcium carbonate are added.
