Definitions
- Plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, nylon are more elastic than malleable and give the walls of the tubes a "memory". After a temporary deformation, the wall tends to return to its original shape. Thus, when an empty plastic tube is closed by mechanical clamping, it tends to resume, when it is released, its initial tubular shape.
- Plastic tubes or metal and plastic complex tubes cannot be closed by simple bending and stripping, as is the case with aluminum tubes, which remain folded and flattened.
- the tubes of which at least the internal surface is made of thermoplastic material are closed by welding this internal face on itself.
- the tube should be pinched before welding, and kept pinched long enough for the weld to cool and resist the tendency of the tube to return to its original shape.
- French patent 1 069 414 describes an automatic machine where the filling and closing by pinching and welding of flexible plastic tubes takes place. This machine also has clamping jaws which accompany the tubes in their movement. These jaws which are identified 20 and 21 in this patent move on either side of the tubes by sliding on guides in a horizontal plane above the plate of the machine.
- the object of the invention is a device of the vice grip type, one of the jaws of which, when not in use, but in the open position, disappears above its work surface by rising substantially above the other jaw.
- the two jaws are each actuated by at least one control rod sliding radially on the machine.
- the rod controlling the external jaw has its end articulated in a vertical plane, this over a length corresponding substantially to the spacing of the two jaws in the open position, while a return means tends to hold the articulated end of the rod in vertical position and thus raise the external jaw.
