The installation includes a reactor, configured to receive a gas stream of the burner; a gas cooling section configured to form a cooled burner gas; a condensation section configured to form a nitric acid water condensate and a stream of uncondensed gaseous nitrogen oxides; an absorption section adapted to produce crude nitric acid and residual gas; and a residual gas treatment system configured to form purified residual gas. In the residual gas heating section, an additional heat exchanger is configured to receive heat from the burner gas stream, wherein said additional heat exchanger is located relatively close to the reactor.
