Согласно заявляемому изобретению оптическая защитная метка представляет собой плоский оптический элемент, который содержит элементарные области R, j=1...m, размер которых не превосходит 50 мкм, в каждой из областей Rсформированы киноформы с асимметричным микрорельефом, которые при освещении оптической защитной метки лазерным излучением формируют в фокальной плоскости, параллельной плоскости купюры, двумерное асимметричное относительно нулевого порядка дифракции изображение, состоящее из однородных областей одинаковой яркости, а остальная часть оптической защитной метки полностью или частично заполнена дифракционными решётками. Для автоматизированного контроля осуществляют сканирование лазерным лучом, перпендикулярным плоскости купюры, вдоль всей банкнотной нити. Защитная нить признаётся подлинной, если изображения, формируемые в фокальной плоскости в процессе лазерного сканирования каждой из видимых частей банкнотной нити, совпадают с эталонным изображением. Визуальный контроль осуществляют при освещении банкнотной нити белым светом.
