Могут предусматриваться цифровые 3D-модели анатомической структуры и медицинского инструмента. Может быть получен параметр местоположения, относящийся к местоположению физического медицинского инструмента по отношению к физической модели анатомической структуры. 3D-моделями анатомической структуры и медицинского инструмента можно манипулировать в соответствии с параметром местоположения.
