Abstract

The device comprises an initiator case, at least two electrically conductive pins passing through the initiator case and spaced inside the case so that they are electrically isolated from one another, and the inclusion material is in the form of an initiating explosive located between the electrically conductive pins. The inclusion material in the form of an initiating explosive may consist of a mixture of reactive material and a metal component. The inclusion material in the form of an initiating explosive has electrical properties that provide resistance to the passage of electric current to maintain an open circuit until a breakdown voltage occurs, which depends on the amount of the metal component in the inclusion material in the form of an initiating explosive. The inclusion material in the form of an initiating explosive has electrical properties that provide an electrically conductive medium in the event of an electric arc between the electrically conductive pins that occurs at voltages higher than the breakdown voltage. Finally, the electrical properties are such that the electric arc provides energy for the formation of plasma from the inclusion material in the form of an initiating explosive, which leads to the initiation of a detonator.
