Abstract

The invention involves a moisture sensor for ongoing recording of the moisture content in materials and structures in buildings and a principle for installation of same, configured as an electrical circuit. The sensor, figure 1, is based on a core 1 of a hygroscopic material, which expands in parallel with the moisture content and thereby produces a motion which activates a contact unit 4 and 5. The contact unit can make or break the circuits, figure 2, and thereby produce digital signals. The contact principle can be configured as shown, or with a microswitch. When a series of sensors are connected in a circuit, figure 2, with a resistor R between the sensors, the resistance in a circuit can show which sensor in the given case has closed the circuit. Thus, any moistness can be recorded in terms of level and position of the leak. The signals from a set of measurements can be processed in an electronic module, a data logger, or a microprocessor, and a computer program can directly illustrate the extent and level of any moistness occurring. <IMAGE>
