Abstract

Operation detector for estimating the operating condition of steam traps utilised in different steam plants and comprising a vibration detector unit 1 and an arithmetic unit 50 for processing the detected signal, such that an output signal is provided as the result of a calculation. The detector unit 1 comprises a probe 2 adapted to being put in contact with a body to be analysed at a predetermined pressure which is provided by means of an elastic part, for detecting mechanical vibration caused by flowing steam or condensed water inside the body to be examined, a diaphragm device 21 for providing an ultrasonic vibration in dependence of the mechanical vibration detected by the probe 2, a vibration sensor 16 placed opposite the diaphragm device 21 for transforming the ultrasonic vibration into an electrical signal, as well as a circuit board 20 containing an amplifier circuit for amplifying an output signal from the vibration sensor 16, in order to transfer an amplified output signal to the surroundings. The arithmetic unit 50 comprises a memory module M for storing data corresponding to a range of steam traps, including the body to be examined, a data processing unit CPU for performing calculations by comparing the output signal transferred from the detector unit 1 and predetermined data chosen among the data stored in the memory module M, as well as display means D, S for displaying the calculations performed in the data processing unit CPU and/or for providing an acoustic signal with an audible frequency. Further, there may also be provided in the operation detector a temperature sensor 10 by the upper end of the probe 2 in the detecting unit 1, such that the operation of different steam traps can be estimated accurately on the basis of the temperature and/or the steam pressure of the body to be examined. <IMAGE>
