Abstract

A pressure regulator 20 which can be used for an aerosol container having a compressed non-liquid gas propellant from a chamber 22 forming a first and a second compartment 23, 24 with the first compartment 23 having an inlet opening 26, 27 and part of the second compartment 24 defining a restricted passageway 47 leading to an outlet opening 25. A diaphragm 41 closes the first compartment 23 at its end facing away from the second compartment 24, and a spring 60 is adapted to press the diaphragm towards the outlet 25, while a piston 44 is connected to the diaphragm 41 and located in the second compartment 24 so that it defines the restricted passageway 47. The second compartment 24 and the piston 44 interact in such a manner that the size of the passageway increases progressively when the diaphragm 41 moves towards the outlet opening 25. A probe 45 is moved together with or by the piston 44 so that it closes the outlet opening 25 when the diaphragm 41 is subject only to action by the spring 60. The regulator 20 is preferably connected to a valve 70 with a chamber 71 having a conical outlet opening 74 which communicates with the interior of the regulator 20, and a ball 77 in the valve chamber 71 can be guided into closing position in the conical outlet opening 74. The valve 70 housing consists of two parts 72, 73 which are telescopically displaceable in relation to one another around the ball 77. The valve 70 serves to prevent the loss of propellant if the aerosol container is inclined too much out of the vertical position. <IMAGE>
