Abstract
In a saw for back splitting of carcasses, the bodies are brought up on an overhead conveyor, suspended by the rear legs each with its own hook and oriented so that the carcasses are halted and secured opposite the saw blade with the back turned toward it. In order to stretch out the carcass, there is a stretching element in the form of a moveable arm 14 with a clawlike element, which goes in and downward from the abdominal side of the carcass and firmly grips the lower jaw to stretch and secure the carcass during the sawing. The saw is arranged in a mount, so that it can move from the back side in toward and along the back of the carcass to sever it. The stretching element is configured as a clawlike cutting element of scissors shape 14, 23 for cutting the lower jaw of the carcass and is oriented such that the top piece 14 of the cutting element constitutes the stretching element, and after the sawing is done the lower piece 23 of the cutting element is activated to cut the lower jaw.
