Description
The invention relates to key profiles for flat keys which are formed on the side faces of the key shank and cooperate with corresponding profiling in the keyway of a cylinder core rotatably mounted in the lock cylinder housing.
Key profiles for locking systems usually have different profile features in order to allot locking authorisations across a locking system. In order to be able to lock with a master key in all the subordinate lock cylinders, it is necessary for the fixed profile features to be the same over all the lock cylinders of this system. By the addition or omission of what are called variable profile features, situations arise in which the key fits into the keyway, or cannot be inserted at all.
It is known from DE 19707932 C2 and also from DE 1928504 At to provide on the side faces of the flat keys ribs or grooves which are circular or ellipsoidal in cross-section or have an asymmetrical cross-sectional shape.
The object of the invention is to provide key profiles which offer improved protection against copying.
This object is achieved in accordance with the invention in key profiles for flat keys, which are formed on the side faces of the key shank and cooperate with corresponding profiling in the keyway of a cylinder core rotatably mounted in the lock cylinder housing, in that the profiling has variable and fixed profile features, and in that the fixed profile features have straight profile faces in the key base and the fixed and variable profile faces have radii on the outside of the key.
In detail, in this case the radii of the variable profile features are dependent on the width of the profile features at the respective locations, multiplied by a form factor.
The radii are calculated according to the following formula: r = a/2 x f, wherein r is the radius of the profile feature, a is the width of the profile feature at the point at which the radius starts, and f is the form factor. The form factor f is a constant and is always 1.1.
Furthermore, all the profile features have a convex form on the outer face and the variable profile features on the inner face have a concave form. It is necessary to give all the profile features on the outer side a convex form in order to obscure the minimal profiling.
In this case, the maxima of the radii should further be designed centrally to the respective profile feature. All the profile features are constructed such that they run symmetrically and at a right-angle to the notional centre plane of the key relative to the central profile axis.
In the case of variable profile features which have an adjacent fixed profile feature which lies closer to the centre plane of the key, the radius is embodied as a quarter circle, the centre point of the radius lying on the extended line of the fixed profile feature. The radius is likewise calculated here according to the formula r = a/2 x f; wherein here a = b x 2. The value b designates the distance between the transition of the variable profile feature into its radius and the point of intersection of a line parallel to the centre plane of the key which is the extended line of the fixed profile feature at the profile angle a.
All the profile features for production-related reasons have a profile angle a of 3°. This profile angle is likewise symmetrical to the central profile axis.
The invention will be discussed below with reference to the embodiment shown in the drawings.
Therein:
Fig. 1 is a schematic cross-section through a lock cylinder core with congruent keys located in the keyway,
Fig. 2 shows detail X, and
Fig. 3 shows detail Y.
The cylinder core is designated by 1 in the illustration. The lines provided with the reference numeral 2 reflect the maximum key width.
The key has different profile features: namely in this case these are variable profile features 3 (shown enlarged in detail X) and fixed profile features, which are designated by 4 and are illustrated enlarged in detail Y.
The fixed profile features 4 are distinguished by straight profile faces on the profile base, with the profile base, i.e. the face which is located close to the centre plane of the key, being designated as inner faces. Correspondingly, the outer face is associated with the wall of the keyway.
The further reference numerals relate to: 5 - line of symmetry of the profile features; at right-angles to the centre plane of the key. 6 - centre point of the radius lies on the line of symmetry of the profile feature. 7 - variable profile feature, which adjoins a fixed profile feature. 8 - elongated, virtual line of the fixed profile feature 9 - point of intersection
The scanning of radii is far more difficult than it is for straight surfaces, and requires at least additional adjustments or interventions by CAD or on the cutting machine, the recognition of radii being problematic and easily possibly resulting in defective keys when cutting anyway.
