Abstract

A method is described for controlling pneumatically actuated members in general, and in particular in connection with a pneumatic control system for a spreading boom 2 with a large number of individually turned on/off nozzle valves 6 - in particular for a bitumen layer - in which method use is made of a double- acting pneumatic piston member 16, where compressed air is applied to either side of the double-acting piston member 16 with the same pressure, where a connection 26 is made between the respective sides of the double piston member 16, and where use is made of mutually different piston areas of the double-acting piston member 16. A control arrangement for use in the method is also indicated. In this way, the possibility is obtained in a simple manner of considerable general simplification of on/off control of pneumatically actuated members in general, and in particular a very considerable simplification in control terms, for example in the case of a bitumen layer with roughly 120 nozzle valves which are to be turned on/off individually, because all the double-acting pneumatic piston members can then be provided with operating compressed air from a common hose connection from a common pressure source. Individual reversal of the respective piston members is achieved by simply opening or respectively closing a shut-off valve for the bypass connection between the respective sides of the piston members. <IMAGE>
