Abstract

A process and an apparatus are described for mounting and stretching the pelts of fur-bearing animals such as mink on a mounting pole ("tane") 14, which is a flat conical pole, stick or rod, preferably made of wood. The pelt is applied to the pole 14 loosely, and a wide end of it is fixed to the pole-holder 10. The free edges of the pelt are fixed with clamps 18. 20. The pelt is stretched on the pole 14 by bringing about a relative displacement between the pole-holder 10 and the clamps 18,20. The pelt in the stretched state is fixed on the pole 14 with the aid of staples. Several sets of laterally adjustable clamps 18,20 are used on both flat sides of the pole 14. The bottom set of clamps 18,20 on the corresponding sides of the pole is directed sideways relative to the width of the pole in question. Fixing units 28, preferably consisting of parts of clamps 20, are used. This arrangement greatly simplifies the work when mounting and stretching the pelts of fur-bearing animals and specifically mink on a pole. It is also important that the process enables one to effect the correct stretching and mounting of the pelt with the aid of the bottom staples uniformly placed at about 2-3 mm from the opposite lateral edges of the pole, which can be done irrespective of the size of the pelt in comparison with the width of the pole. <IMAGE>
