Abstract

A stackable container, which is designed for use in storage and handling of fish aboard a fishing vessel, such as a trawler, has a rectangular bottom wall 4, two end walls 5 which extend upward from the opposite short sides of the bottom wall 4, and two sides walls 3 which extend upward from the opposite long sides of the bottom wall 4. Based on this design, the intention is to specify a stackable container of simple construction, which is easy to work with, which is especially suitable for storage and mechanical handling of fish onboard the fishing vessel, which has a suitable large volume, yet a sufficiently small inner depth to enable landing of a product of high quality, and which by virtue of its configuration ensures the attainment of a high volumetric effectiveness of the fish storage in the vessel's cargo hold sections. Accordingly, the container is configured in such a way that its side walls 3 have vertically upward projecting top parts 7, which extend upward beyond the top parts 9 of the end walls 5, the bottom parts 11 of the container's side walls 3 are inwardly recessed to a sufficient extent so that the container has a bottom portion which has a reduced width dimensioned to be accommodated between the vertically projecting top parts 7 of the side walls 3 of a similar container stacked vertically underneath, and whose vertical dimension is essentially equal to the vertical dimension of the vertically projecting upper parts 7 of the side walls 3, the container has a laminated cover 17, which is dimensioned to fit closely between the vertically projecting upper parts 7 of the side walls 3, and at whose ends there are co-operating elements 19, 21 for detachable securement of the cover 17 in an engaged position in a horizontal plane situated in the top region of the end walls 5, the container has a rigid reinforcement rod 15, which extends transversely between and is rigidly secured to opposite points of the inner surfaces of the side walls 3 roughly midway between the end walls 5, and furthermore the vertical level of said opposite points of the inner surfaces of the side walls 3 is dictated by the engaged position of the cover 17, so that the cover 17 in this engaged position is supported by the top surface of the reinforcement rod 15, and the side walls 3 of the container have grasping points 13 in their vertically projecting upper parts 7 designed to engage with mechanical grasping elements above them, which operate between the vertically projecting upper parts 7 of the side walls 3 and above the cover 17 in its engaged position, so that a container situated at the top of a container stack can be removed without disturbing the adjacent containers in the stack. <IMAGE>
