Abstract

A rotor blade assembly and a method for reducing the separation region of a rotor blade for a wind turbine are diselosed. The rotor blade assembly ineludes a rotor blade having exterior surfaees defining a pressure side, a suetion side, a leading edge, and a trailing edge extending in a generally span-wise direetion between a tip and a root. The rotor blade assembly ffirther ineludes a flap extending in the generally span-wise direetion from the root towards the tip. The flap ineludes an inner surfaee and an outer surfaee, the inner surfaee eonformingly mounted to at least one of the pressure side, the suetion side, or the trailing edge, the outer surfaee and at least one of the pressure side or the suetion side defining a generally eontinuous aerodynamie surfaee.
