Abstract

A method for controlling the quality of water flowing through a flow channel is disciosed, cornprising the steps of: repeatedly measuring the transit times of ultrasonic signals transinitted between at least two ultrasonic transducers, the ultrasonic signals passing through the water fiowing through the flow channel, and ernifting an alarm signal if the measured transit times or sound velocities calculated therefroin deviate by more than a predefined percentage from a given reference value. Furthermore, an ultrasonic flow meter for ineasurement of the flow of water and control of the quality of the water fiowing through a flow channel is disclosed, comprising at least two ultrasonic transducers, electronics for repeatedly measuring the transit times of ultrasonic signals transmitted between the ultrasonic transducers (4) and caiculating the flow of water through the flow channel using the measured transit times, and means for emitting an alarm signal controlled by the electronics.
