Description
DESCRIPTION
FIELD OF THE INVENTION AND PRIOR ART
[0001] The present invention relates to a device for securing a window bar on the outside of a window-frame surrounding a windowpane, the device comprising a first connecting means designed to be secured to a window-frame and a second connecting means securable to a window bar, said connecting means being provided with members for connecting them to each other for securing the window bar with respect to the window-frame.
[0002] Such a window bar is mainly in a decorative aim arranged on a windowpane for forming a square pattern giving the unit of which the windowpane is a part an appearance often being more appealing to most people. Said unit may then belong to any type of units having a windowpane, for example both ordinary windows and doors, as well as terrace and balcony doors or outer doors, with one or more windowpanes.
[0003] The very securing of a window bar by means of such a device may be intended to take place before mounting said unit in a building, such as already in a factory or directly before mounting said unit in place, or the securing may take place to said units already present in a building.
[0004] One way of proceeding has then been to apply said first connecting means in the form of projections permanently in fixed positions onto the window-frame in the very manufacturing of the window-frame. This means an extra work when manufacturing the window-frame and the projections may disturb the appearance of the window-frame if later on no window bar is applied to the windowpane in question. Such a device is known through CH 650 565 A5 and has said first connecting means in the form of projections permanently in fixed positions onto the window-frame.
[0005] Another way to proceed has been to apply said first connecting means in the form of riveting or nailing on window units already mounted in place in a building. This is a disadvantage if said rivets or nails will get a faulty position, since the window bar in question will then always be inclined. It is another disadvantage that if the window bar is to be displaced or removed the rivets, nail tracks and said projections will remain on the window-frame and degrading the appearance thereof.
[0006] The document US 2004/172895A1 discloses a device according to the preamble of appended claim 1 having a trim strip as connecting means for connecting a window bar by a female member defined by an end of the trim strip.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0007] The object of the present invention is to provide a device of the type known through said document being improved with respect thereto.
[0008] This object is according to the invention obtained by providing such a device with the additional features of the characterizing part of claim 1.
[0009] Such a device enables an adaption of the position of the connecting means for obtaining exactly the position asked for at the same time as there will be no risk that the window bar through the gravitation acting thereupon displaces the connecting means along the window-frame and the window bar gets inclined. This behaviour is obtained especially by the feature that the body of the first connecting means has an edge-like outer border for facilitating the introduction of the portions of the body of the first connecting means comprising a groove-like structure around the window-frame border so that the first connecting mans may be displaced with respect to the window-frame.
[0010] According to an embodiment of the invention the male member has substantially the shape of a circle-cylindrical axle pin, the connecting means provided with the male member is adapted to hold the longitudinal axis of said male member substantially in parallel with the windowpane in the position for said interlocking engagement, the female member has substantially the shape of a sleeve with a circle-cylindrical cavity, and the connecting means provided with the female member is designed to hold the female member in alignment with the longitudinal axis of the sleeve substantially coinciding with the direction of the longitudinal axis of the female member in said position for interlocking engagement. Such a design of the members movable into mutually interlocking engagement makes it possible to easily secure a window bar in a direction in parallel with a said windowpane and safely keep the window bar at the window-frame against removal thereof away from the windowpane.
[0011] According to another embodiment of the invention the sleeve of the female member has an interruption in the jacket wall thereof for forming an opening adapted to allow the male member to be introduced into said cavity of the sleeve transversely to the longitudinal axis thereof for obtaining said interlocking engagement. The window bar may by this easily be brought into place at the window-frame by pressing this with the second connecting means against the first connecting means snap secured to the windowframe.
[0012] According to another embodiment of the invention the sleeve of the female member is formed by a resilient material allowing the male member to be pressed thereinto while pressing the jacket walls of the sleeve apart, said walls being designed to substantially return to their original rest position when the male member is introduced into the sleeve for retaining this thereinside. The connection between the window bar and the windowframe may by this easily be established and maintained thanks to the fact that the jacket walls have to be pressed apart for removing the male member from the sleeve. The sleeve of the female member may then advantageously be made of plastic material, which may easily be provided with suitable resilient properties.
[0013] According to another embodiment of the invention said connecting means are designed to have said longitudinal axis substantially in parallel with the longitudinal extension of a said window bar to be secured to a window-frame. This facilitates a perfect adjustment of the connection of the window bar to the windowframe.
[0014] According to another embodiment of the invention the male member is a part of said body of the first connecting means. It has turned out in at least some applications to be advantageous to secure exactly the male member to a windowframe.
[0015] According to another embodiment of the invention the second connecting means is designed to be received in a recess in one end of a said window bar. The recess may then have slots, and the second connecting means may be adapted to be snap secured in said slots.
[0016] Said second connecting means is advantageously moulded in one plastic piece of plastic material, and the same is valid for the first connecting means. The device according to the invention is by that producible to an attractively low cost.
[0017] Further advantages as well as advantageous features of the invention will appear from the following description of an embodiment of the invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0018] With reference to the appended drawings, below follows a specific description of a preferred embodiment of the invention cited as an example. In the drawings:
Fig 1 is a simplified perspective view of a window provided with window bars,
Fig 2 is a perspective view of a first connecting means included in a device according to an embodiment of the invention,
Fig 3 is a perspective view illustrating the connecting means according to Fig 2 secured to a vundow-frame,
Fig 4 is a perspective view of a second connecting means included in a device according to said embodiment of the invention,
Fig 5 is a perspective view illustrating the connecting means according to Fig 4 received in one end of a window bar, and
Fig 6 is a partially sectioned view illustrating an embodiment of a device according to the invention with the two connecting means and by that a window-frame and a window bar connected to each other.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
[0019] The field of use of the device according to the present invention is schematically illustrated through Fig 1 by an ordinary window 1 with a window-frame 2 and a windowpane 3 held thereby, which may comprise one or more sheets of glass or similar entirely or partially transparent material. The surface of the windowpane is divided into several fields, here four, by window bars 4 secured to the window-frame 2. The present invention relates to the very device for securing such a window bar 4 to such a window-frame 2.
[0020] A first connecting means 5 being a part of such a device is illustrated in Fig 2 and designed to be secured to a said window-frame in the way shown in Fig 3. This connecting means is preferably moulded in one piece of plastic material and has a body 6 with portions 8 designed to be introducible between a border 28 of a window-frame (see also Figs 3 and 6) closest to the windowpane and the windowpane for gripping around and releasably snap securing to this border. The body 9 is designed to be displaceable along the window-frame while guiding the frame in the groove 11 while overcoming a friction force exceeding a gravitation applied by the window bar upon the body 6 when this is secured to a window-frame through the device. These portions have for this sake an edge-like outer border 9 for facilitating the introduction of the portions around the border 28. These portions comprises further a groove-like structure 10 designed to receive said edge 28 of a window-frame in the groove 11 while this structure extends along the window-frame border. Said portions 8 may then thanks to the inherent elasticity of the plastic material of the body be pressed apart from the rest 12 of the body for snap securing this body to the border 28 of the window-frame as shown in Figs 3 and 6.
[0021] The first connecting means has also a male member 13 with substantially the shape of a circle-cylindrical axle pin. This axle pin is designed to extend with the longitudinal axis thereof substantially in parallel with the windowpane in the position of the connecting means 5 secured to a window-frame. More exactly, the male member 13 is designed to extend with the longitudinal axis thereof substantially in parallel with the longitudinal extension of a window bar designed to be secured to a window-frame by means of the device according to the invention.
[0022] Fig 4 shows in perspective a design of a second connecting means 14 being a part of the device according to the invention, which also is made in one piece of plastic material, preferably of the same type as the plastic material of the connecting means 5. Fig 5 shows how a second connecting means 14 is intended to be received in a recess 15 provided with a slot of a window bar by snapping into this slot. The second connecting means has a female connecting member 16 with substantially the shape of a sleeve with a circle-cylindrical cavity 17. The sleeve has an interruption in the jacket wall thereof for forming an opening 18 designed to allow introduction of the male member 13 into the cavity 17 transversely to the longitudinal axis of the sleeve for obtaining a mutually interlocking engagement of the two connecting means 5, 14. The sleeve 16 of the female member is resilient so as to allow the male member 13 to be pressed thereinto while pressing the jacket wall portions 19, 20 delimiting the opening 18 apart. These jacket wall portions 19, 20 are designed to substantially return to their original rest positions when the male member is introduced into the sleeve for retaining this therein.
[0023] The function of the device according to the invention is as follows: when there is a desire to apply a window bar on the outside of a windowpane the first connecting means 5 is firstly arranged in place at the window-frame 2 by introducing the portions 8 between the window-frame and the windowpane for snap securing the connecting means 5 in the window-frame in the way shown in especially Fig 6, where a rubber ring sealing against the windowpane is pressed aside by the edge-like outer border 9. The connecting means 5 may then by manpower be displaced along the window-frame for obtaining exactly the position desired therefor. The second connecting means 14 is after that or previously pressed into the end of a window bar 4 to the position shown in Fig 5. The window bar 4 is then moved with the opening 18 of the second connecting means over the male member 13 of a first connecting means 5 and the male and female members are pressed into mutual engagement for obtaining the position according to Fig 6, in which the window bar 4 is secured with respect to the window-frame 2. If there is later on for any reason a desire to remove the window bar, this may be done by applying the force required for pressing the jacket wall portions 19 and 20 apart and pull the axle pin 13 out of the cavity 17, whereupon the connecting means 15 may be removed from the window-frame without leaving any traces whatsoever.
[0024] The male and female members may for example change place, i.e. the male member may be intended to be connected to the wndow bar, and it is also conceivable to design these in another way than shown in the Figures.
[0025] It is shown in the drawings how the device is applied to a window bar of for example aluminium, but any material, such as wood, and any other appearance of the window bar to be secured through the device according to the invention are conceivable.
