Abstract

A media frame (1) for mounting a flat media (2) and comprising at least one set of profiles (4), a front-profile (5) and a back-profile (6), both profiles being straight, longitudinal elements. The front-profile (5) comprises a front surface (7) and an opposite back-surface (8) where a number of magnets (9) are placed. The front-profile (5) has a length l1. A recess (12) with a longitudinal axis parallel with a longitudinal axis of the front-profile (5) and a longitudinal length smaller than l1 is placed in the back-surface (8). The magnets (9) are located in the recess (12) and the back-profile (6) is a rail-profile (13) removable attachable to the back-surface (8) and made in a magnetizable material configured to be placed in said recess (12).

DK 180568 B1 1 The present invention relates to a media frame for mounting a flat media, said media frame comprises at least one set of profiles, a front-profile and a back-profile, both profiles being straight, longitudinal elements, said front-profile comprises a front surface and an opposite back-surface into said back-surface a number of magnets are placed, said front-profile has a length [1 measured from a first end of the front-profile to an opposite placed second end of the front-profile, and the back-profile is removable attachable to the back-surface of the front profile by magnetism.
US 20160360903 A1 describes a frame for mounting artwork. It comprises an upper set of substrates including an upper first substrate and an upper second substrate, wherein each of the upper first and second substrates include an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface of the upper first substrate comprises one or more positively aligned magnets placed in cavities. The inner surface of the upper second substrate comprises one or more positively aligned magnets placed in corresponding one or more cavities. The artwork is then positioned between the inner surface of the upper first substrate and the inner surface of the upper second substrate during use. This holds the artwork in place. The construction requires that the magnets placed in each substrate must be placed opposite each other. Due to the cavities enclosing the magnets and provided in both substrates the artwork will hang with a significant distance to the wall as the cavities requires a certain thickness in order to accommodate the magnets. Further, using the frame requires precision during handling and attaching the media to the frame and there is a risk that the position of the media must be adjusted several times before it is placed correct.
With other words it is desirable to be able provide a media frame that is easy to use and produce and where the flat media such as a poster, photo or other
DK 180568 B1 2 flat media is placed unambiguously in the media frame for hanging the flat media on a wall.
The present invention seeks generally to improve a media frame such that the abovementioned insufficiencies and drawbacks of today’s media frames are overcome or at least it provides a useful alternative.
Up to this day, prior art has failed to teach a simple and yet reliable and inexpensive media frame which in a safe and reliable manner, without substantially increasing the cost of the device, is able to satisfy the abovementioned much desired characteristics of the mentioned media frame.
According to the invention, a media frame is provided, as per the introductory part of this specification, and wherein a recess with a longitudinal axis parallel with a longitudinal axis of the front- profile and a longitudinal length smaller than I is placed in the back-surface of the front-profile, said magnets are located in the recess and the back-profile is a rail-profile made in a magnetizable material configured to be placed in said recess, said rail-profile is removable attachable to the back-surface of the front profile by magnetism.
Hereby it is possible to place a poster or photo or other flat media unambiguously in the recess as the recess guides the upper edge of the flat media in correct position, and unambiguously attaches the flat media to the frame by placing the rail-profile in the recess and onto the media part placed in the recess. The magnetic field between the two profiles keeps the flat media in place. Then the frame can be mounted on a wall and without it being necessary to adjust the position of the flat media fastened to the frame.
The material of the front profile could be wood, plastic, aluminum or any other suitable material. The front-profile is longer than the length of the flat media positioned between the front-profile and the back-profile. This enables room for the recess to be made on the backside of front-profile. The recess has
DK 180568 B1 3 advantageously a length just a little longer than the flat media to be held in place and a width and depth to accommodate the flat media and the rail- profile. The magnets are embedded in the backside of front-profile over the length of the recess in order to hold front-profile and the rail-profile together. The number and holding force of magnets depends on the size and weight of the flat media and the weight of the frame. The media frame can then be constructed in different sizes: length of the profiles and length of the recess, depth of the recess and number of magnets.
The rail-profile is advantageously made in a ferrous and always in a magnetic material. Other magnetic materials could be cobalt or nickel. The whole rail- profile could be made in the magnetic material or it could be surface-treated with such a material. The magnetic field also prevents the flat media to slide from side to side in the event that the recess is longer than the width of the media/poster placed in the recess.
A flat media in this regard is in this regard i a media with a message of some kind/art such as an artwork, a photo, a slide, a planche, or poster, a thin woven carpet etc. The flat media is typically paper, cardboard, fabric, canvas, foil, thin plates made in metal, plastic or other suitable material .
The longitudinal length of the rail-profile is shorter than and substantial the same as the longitudinal length of the recess that is the rail-profile is around 1-10 mm shorter than the recess advantageously 1-2 mm.
According to one embodiment, is the recess delimited by - a bottom surface placed in a vertical distance to an upper part of the back-surface, - one side surface running parallel with the longitudinal axis of the front-profile and placed between the bottom surface and the upper part of the back-surface and having a vertical height hs, - two opposite placed end-surfaces having a height h1 and each end-surface respectively placed in a distance di from the first end and the second end of the front-profile.
DK 180568 B1 4 Hereby it is obtained that the fastening of a media/poster to the frame and hanged on a wall is unambiguously hidden in the recess, as the recess is not visible when looking at the media frame (with the media attached) from the side. The rail-profile, the recess and the magnets are simply not visible. The recess is so to speak open at one side in order to accommodate the top part of the flat media, and it is closed on three sides. A first surface of the rail- profile facing the back-surface of the front-profile is placed on the bottom surface of the recess and in contact with the magnets.
According to one embodiment, each magnet is placed in a cavity and that a top-surface of each of the magnets is placed with a distance of 0-0,5 mm above the surface surrounding the cavity. Hereby it is possible for the rail-profile to be placed close to the bottom surface of the recess, which contributes to hide the fastening of the poster/flat media. Further, the strength of the magnetic field for fastening the rail-profile to the front-profile is optimized. According to one embodiment, the rail-profile comprises a first surface facing the back-surface of the front-profile and an opposite placed second surface said rail-profile comprises a number of through-going holes said at least two holes are aligned with each other. The holes are placed in such a way that they are not coinciding with the magnets. The holes are placed with desired intervals. They are provided for mounting purpose onto a wall-surface by use of screws. At least two of the holes are aligned with each other and placed with a suitable distance between each other in order to provide the mounting purpose. Advantageously all the holes are aligned. According to one embodiment, the holes are surrounded on the first surface by a submerged area throughout the periphery and perimeter of each hole.
DK 180568 B1 Hereby it optimizes the use of the holes for suspension of the frame, mounting two of the holes on screws/nails placed in the wall. The holes are deep enough for the screw head to be sunk from the first surface of the rail- 5 profile in order not to damage the surface of the backside of the front-profile and or the media. The holes depth is less than the depth of bent edges of the rail-profile meaning that upon tightening the screws edges of the rail profile will press against the mounting-surface giving it a better grip.
According to one embodiment, the rail-profile comprises elevated sidewalls running parallel with the longitudinal axis of the rail-profile, said upper end edge of each of the sidewalls are bend 30°-45° towards the middle of the rail- profile and the very top of the upper end edges are fully or partly provided with serrations.
The serrated upper edges are tuning towards the wall when the media frame is hanged on a wall. This helps to increase the friction between the media frame and the wall in the case that the rail-profile has been fastened to the wall with screws through the holes of the rail-profile. The serrated sidewalls start from the second surface of the rail-profile. Further, by having these sidewalls - provided by the longitudinal sides of the rail-profile are bent - the stiffness, straightness and flatness of the rail-profile is increased saving material. The height of the sidewalls is dimensioned in such a way that the serrations are placed a little above the recess. The top of the serrations is around 0- 1-mm. above said recess.
The bent sidewalls are used for hanging up the media frame on screws already positioned in a wall. Hereby the media frame with the fastened flat media can be hooked on/hooked off the wall.
According to one embodiment, the media frame comprises at least two sets of profiles: an upper set of profiles and a lower set of profiles, each set comprising a front-profile and a back-profile.
DK 180568 B1 6 Thereby it is possible to place a set of profiles at the upper edge of a poster and at the opposite lower edge. However, it could also be placed at each side of the poster if this is more esthetic. Finally, the media frame could comprise four sets of profiles thereby framing a poster/picture/media completely. The profiles may be mounted in any given angle on the wall thereby mounting the flat media in any given angle. According to one embodiment, the media frame comprises a suspension said suspension is a separate device or is an integral part of the rail-profile.
When the suspension is an integral part of a set of profiles the holes of the rail-profile is used for fastening the media frame to a wall. When these holes are used the flat media placed in the media frame can be mounted in any angle as one set is mounted at one side of the framework and another set of profiles is mounted at the opposite side of the flat media. In this way, the flat media is stretched between the two profiles.
When the suspension is a separate device the flat media will be hanging vertical down when using the suspension. According to one embodiment, the media frame comprises a suspension comprising at least one preferably two suspension-profiles made in a magnetizable material said suspension-profiles are removable attachable to the rail-profile by magnetism.
Each suspension-profile has a lose magnet tablet placed in one end of the profile and in the opposite end a through-going hole is provided. The hole is the part that is placed around a nail or screw placed in a wall in order to mount a flat media on the wall using the media frame. The end comprising the magnet is attached to the rail-profile.
According to one embodiment, each suspension-profile is a flat profile and comprises at one end a through-going hole, and in the opposite end each suspension-profile comprises a bent profile
DK 180568 B1 7 area said bent profile area comprises a first bend of substantially 90° and a second bend of substantially 90° thereby providing a bent profile part having a longitudinal axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the rest of the suspension profile not comprising the bent area and in a distance from said rest of the suspension profile. This makes the backside of the media frame nearly flush with the wall-surface it is mounted on. According to one embodiment, the second surface of the rail comprises elevated area around each hole throughout the periphery and perimeter of each hole. The invention will be explained with reference to fig. 1 and fig. 2, fig. 1 showing a top view of a media frame 1 for mounting a flat media to a wall the media frame 1 comprising at least one set of profiles 4: a front-profile 5 and a back-profile 6. The front-profile 5 comprises a front surface 7 and an opposite back-surface 8. A number of magnets 9 — se fig 3 - are placed in the back-surface 8 in cavities 18 placed in a recess 12. DK 180568 B1 9 an elongated member having a length ; measured from a first end 10 of the front-profile 5 to an opposite placed second end 11 of the front-profile 5 The length |1 is depending of the length of the flat media to be mounted on the wall. The width of the front-profile is typically 5-10% of the length.
The longitudinal axis of the recess 12 is running parallel with a longitudinal axis of the front-profile 5. The length of the recess is smaller than I. The back-profile 6 is a flat rail-profile 13 made in a magnetizable material and is removable attachable to the back-surface 8 of the front profile 5 by magnetism.
Turning to fig. 3 the recess 12 is delimited by a bottom surface 14 placed in a vertical distance to an upper part 15 of the back-surface 8. One side surface 16 is running parallel with the longitudinal axis of the front-profile 5, and placed between the bottom surface 14 and the upper part 15 of the back-surface 8 and having a vertical height h1 and delimits the recess in the longitudinal direction. Further two opposite placed end-surfaces 17,17” also having a height hi are delimiting the recess at the ends and are placed in a distance di (1-3 cm. depending on the dimension of the front-profile) from the first end 10 and the second end 11 of the front-profile 5. The magnets 9 are placed in the cavities 18 placed in the recess and a top- surface 19 of each of the magnets 9 is flush with the surrounding recess- surface 14 or has a distance to that not more than 0,5mm. FIG. 4 is a sectional view of a second surface 21 of the back-profile 6/rail- profile 13. This surface is the surface facing a wall when the media frame 1 is positioned on a wall. The rail-profile 13 comprises a first surface 20 — see fig 1 - facing the back- surface 8 of the front-profile 5 and an opposite placed second surface 21. The rail-profile 13 comprises a number of through-going holes 22 and at least two holes 22 are aligned with each other. The holes 22 are surrounded on the first surface 20 by a submerged area 23 throughout the
DK 180568 B1 10 periphery and perimeter of each hole 22. On the second surface 21 an elevated area 24 surrounds each hole 22 throughout the periphery and perimeter of each hole 22. The rail-profile 13 comprise elevated sidewalls 25’, 25” running parallel with the longitudinal axis of the rail-profile 13. The upper end edge 26 of each of the sidewalls 25’, 25” is bent 30°-45° towards the middle of the rail-profile 13 and is fully or partly provided with serrations 27 at the very top. FIG. 5 is a perspective view of a suspension device comprising a suspension-profile 29. In order to hang a set of profiles on the wall two suspension-profiles 29, 29” are normally necessary — see fig. 11, 13. They are made in a magnetizable material. The suspension-profiles 29’, 29” are removable attachable to the rail-profile 13 by magnetism. The bent profile area 32 comprises a first bend 30 of substantially 90% and a second bend 31 of substantially 90%. This provides a bent profile part 34 having a longitudinal axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the rest of the suspension profile 29 and in a distance from said rest of the suspension profile 29. 29. The bent area follows the contour of the back of the media frame 1 when a flat media such as a poster is placed in it. A magnet 9 is placed here. This engages with the back-profile 6. The opposite end of the suspension profile 29 engaging the wall comprises a through-going hole to hang on a screw or nail.

The media frame can in principle be used or installed on a surface/wall in three distinct different ways.
Permanently/rigidly installation is shown in figures 8-10. It comprises a set of screws for easy hook on/hook off purpose or for permanent installations.
Using a separate suspension is shown in figures 11 to 13. The media frame 1 may comprise one single set of profiles or it may comprise two sets: an upper set of profiles 4’ and a lower set of profiles 4” as shown in fig 9 and 10. Installing the media frame 1 permanently/rigidly as shown in figures 8,9,10 require the user to mark up where he/she would like the corners of the flat media to be on the surface including any mounting angle.
This is best done by placing the flat media 2 on the surface/wall and mark up each of the flat media corners on the surface.
These points accurately match the top corners of the back-profile 6. The back-profile 6 is fixed to the surface/wall by means of mounting hardware such as screws through the holes 22 of the back-profile 6. After installing the back-profile 6 or back-profiles 6 in case there is an upper set of profiles 4’ and a lower set of profiles 4”, the flat media 2 is placed on top of the front side of the back-profile 6 fastened to the wall.
Then the front-profile(s) 5 is/are placed on top of the back-profile(s) 6 in such a way that the back-profiles 6 are hidden within the recess 12 in the front-profile 5. The magnets 9 embedded within the recess 12 on front-profile(s) 5 will hold on to the front side of the ferrous and magnetic back-profile(s) 6 and hold the flat media 2 in place.
DK 180568 B1 12 However, the /media frame could also be fastened to the wall by another way. In this case, the media frame 1 with the flat media 2 fastened to the media frame 1 is hooked on/off screws/nails placed in the wall. The process is placing the front-profile 5 with its front side 7 facing down on a flat horizontal surface. The upper end of the flat media 2 is placed in the recess 12 of the front-profile 5 with the front side of the flat media 2 facing down. The back-profile 6 is placed on top of the flat media 2 within the recess 12 of the front-profile 5 and with its first surface 20 facing the recess
12. The serrated edges of the back profile 6 is turning opposite. The magnets 9 embedded within the recess 12 of the front-profile 5 will hold on to the ferrous and magnetic back-profile 6 and hold the flat media 2 in place. One or two screws in the wall is placed in such a way that each can engage with an upper end edge 26 of the back-profile 6.
Another way of installing the media frame is using suspension-profiles 29’, 29”. Using such suspension profiles is shown in fig. 11, 12, 13. Installing the media frame 1 by use of a suspension requires the user to assemble the media frame 1 including the flat media 2 first. This is done by placing the front-profile 5 with its front surface 7 facing down on a flat horizontal surface. The upper end of the flat media 2 is placed in the recess
12. The back-profile 6 is placed on top of the flat media 2 within the recess 12 of the front-profile 5. Just as described above. The magnets 9 embedded within the recess 12/cavities 18 of the front-profile 5 will hold on to the ferrous and magnetic back-profile 6 and hold the flat media 2 in place. Each suspension profile 29°, 29” comprises a bent end 35 at the bottom of each of the profiles 29’, 29”. This is shown in fig. 6 and fig. 7. This part grabs around a magnet 9. The bent end 35 at the bottom of the profile grips the magnet 9 — see fig 12. The holding force between the magnet 9 and the suspension-profile 29 and the bent edge on the back-profile 6 are providing a force able to carry the vertical load from the overall media frame 1. The
DK 180568 B1 13 magnets 9 will hold the suspension-profiles 29°, 29” into a flat and plane position on the backside of the back-profile 6 leaving just a small gap between media frame and the wall substantially equal to the thickness of the suspension-profile.
The suspension-profiles 29’, 29” are each bent twice — making a part of the suspension profile parallel to an upper surface of the front-profile.
In this way, the lifting point for the media frame is in the center of gravity of the overall media frame.
The suspension-profiles 29’, 29” must have sufficient strength and stiffness to transfer the gravity load from the media frame 1 to the center of gravity of the media frame 1. This is illustrated in fig. 12 showing the backside of the media frame.
Combining the two other ends of each suspension-profile 29’, 29”where a hole 33 is made, allows the profile 4 to be fixed to the wall by means of a nail or screw.
The length of the suspension-profiles will determine the internal angle V of the suspension.
If desired each suspension-profile could be installed separately for example in an angle V = 90° or any other angle which would require a nail or screw in each end of the suspension-profiles.
This is shown in fig. 13
