Abstract

A compact electrochemical measuring electrode device 1 with great measuring accuracy is constructed using thick film technology on a plane circular substrate 13 made of a ceramic material such as aluminium oxide. The electrodes 14, 15 of the electrode device are arranged on one side of the substrate, and the electrical connections 20, 26, 27 are arranged on the other side of the substrate. In the substrate, a through-passage 30 is provided for establishing an electrical link between an electrode 14 and an associated electrical connection, and a metallic conductor 31 is introduced into the passage, preferably in the form of a rivet or a solidified metal paste. A terminal field 32 is applied using thick film technology on one side of the electrode device, and an electrode layer 14 is provided using thick film technology on the other side, both directly electrically conductively connected to the conductor. Several layers of electrode material are applied, the area of the layers being reduced to provide a stepped configuration. In a polarographic electrode device, the cathode is platinum wire embedded in a glass tube and secured and sealed in the through-passage in the substrate by means of a glass paste heated to above its normal application temperature. <IMAGE>
